  1. Indeed, and the general idea is that the particular issue the discussion takes place on is the subject matter of the thread, which we seem to have wandered off of in the last few pages. Gets a bit tedious for the rest us when that happens , so perhaps you can bear that in mind in future. Many thanks. P.S. No need to respond, we just need to get back on topic and leave the bickering behind. Thank you.
  2. If you bother to read Stoke Potters post properly you will see he didn't offer it as an opinion. He said it was a REALITY that most races were boring. He also said most people are in denial. I don't know how many people's opinions he asked in order to come to that conclusion but I would suggest it was probably not many, and possibly not any. Maybe he thinks people are in denial because they just happen to not agree with him.
  3. It seems Wolves is a track riders have to learn to get their heads round to consistently do well but I can't think of any Hammers apart from AJ who you coukd say is going to be a serious threat at MG before the tapes go up. Some have good nights sometimes if the track is to their liking but you can't guarantee it. Bridger is still getting the tTeam Revolution Jawas sorted out so is a bit of an unknown quantity. History says that the Hammers will probably lose by more than 10 , but if they keep it closer than that I will be well pleased. Chances of getting a point are remote though IMO. Wolves strength this year is that they seem to have a strength in depth side where everyone can chip in with a reasonable score.
  4. If it was in the context of 2016 only then perhaps we can assume he had turned over a new leaf which indeed will be welcome news. We'll see how long his Damascene conversion lasts! Let's just put the team building issue into context. Poole don't appear to have done anything wrong on that front. They do of course have Rick Frost on board which helps enormously, I would love to have had Hans at Lakeside as second heatleader just I would have loved to have had Freddie Lindgren or Max Fricke but we don't always get our wish list. Most fans understand that. The whole thing about people actually being jealous of Pooles team kicked off as part of Starmans usual idiocy because that's the way his childish mind works, and one or two have unfortunately taken the bait. Insofar as Poole have built an exceptionally strong side that really is a condemnation of the state of the sport rather than Matt Ford, who has within the rules done a good job (with a little help from his friends).
  5. We are only 3 weeks into the season ! I think it is not disputed ( except by Red Panda and Starman ) that he has a dodgy history as long as your arm. His quote was "We all abide by the same rules" . If you are saying that should be interpreted as "So far this year we have all abided by the same rules" , then that would be true, but in plain English the words used imply that he is convincing the Bournemouth faithful that he always abides by the rules, but we know different don't we ? Personally I don't take his comments too seriously because he obviously has to give Phil Space something to write about on a slack news day , but it does indicate his general contempt for other promoters when he is just as culpable for the present state of the sport as the rest of them . Still it sells newspapers and that's the name of the game.
  6. Fair comment. I was only going by the updates, but it seems odd the team did OK against Coventry and so poor against Wolves. If the track was OK Tungate and Sedgemen obviously need to up their game if they are to survive. A pity because I really got to like Sedgie when he was at Lakeside and one of my outstanding memories of recent years is seeing him come from the back to beat Freddie Lindgren. He also beat Greg Hancock at Lakeside so he has the raw ability , although for some reason he doesn't seem to be able to develop it. Looking forward to seeing how he goes at Lakeside next week.
  7. Just a thought, but according to the Speedwáy updates texter 5 of the first 8 heats were won from gate 4, and the Swindon riders were talking to Ronnie Russell. A bit later on the texter said Swindon riders were not happy with turns 3and 4. It makes me wonder if the track prep was done a certain way for press and practice and the first match then done differently for last nights match so whatever slender advantage the home team had on set ups etc was lost. It is a classic way of teams losing matches that they come across an unexpected home track condition that messes all their set ups up. It's interesting that in the second half of the meeting Swindon started to chip away at Wolves lead so possibly some at least we're getting their set ups sorted. If a rider is expecting to ride a certain line, and it's not there, that's one ride gone. Not saying I am right, just a possibility , but if that is what happened maybe the fans shouldn't be too hard on the riders and look at the management.
  8. I agree with all of that, but getting back to the interview in the Bournemouth Echo which prompted the thread it is quite ironic that Ford is quoted as saying "We all abide by the same rules " ..........er .....no you don't Matt. If you did you would still do very well, maybe not win quite so often or so comfortably, but you would still do very well, you would be held in greater esteem by the majority of the fan base , and the sport would be slightly healthier.
  9. That's Roscoe for you. If he wins he goes round crowing about it, if he loses there's always some excuse, never his fault.
  10. One thing you have never backed up is your claim ( which you have made twice now) that other promoters sit on their backsides waiting for the world to come to them . Four times you have been asked to name them but each time you evade the question. It's not a difficult thing to answer . Either you can back up your claims or you can't. If you can, then let's have the names if you can't then all you need to say is sorry fellow Speedwáy fans I was having a rant with out my brain in gear, then we can all move on. Of course , if you avoid answering again you only make yourself look more and more stupid.
  11. Well, lets have a look at that drivel you have just posted. In a similar post a few weeks ago you said that other promoters sit on their backsides waiting for the world to come to them. I asked you three times who these other promoters were but you failed to answer. You have now made the same claim again so I'll ask you again who are these other promoters who sit on their backsides waiting for the world to come to them ? Since you have complained about posters posting things which is in no way factual I presume you must have some factual basis for your claim, so who are they. ? Could it be David Gordon and David Hemsley who sat on their backsides until somebody built a couple of stadiums and gave it to them ? Would it be Jon Cook and Stuart Douglas who sat on their backsides until the local council and MP came to them and begged them to keep Lakeside open ? If not those then who are these who sit on there backsides doing nothing until the world comes to Them ? Please tell us. While we are at it who are these promoters you refer to who cannot keep their mouths shut and , in your words, spout off crap about Poole ? Do you have a link to anything they have said about Poole ? Who exactly said it , what was it and when ? Since you have told others to either put up or shut up then presumably you will be able to back up your own claims, otherwise you will be tarnished as the biggest idiot on the forum after Starman and someone who does exactly what they accuse others of doing, Anyway we will al wait to hear from you as to who these others are who sit around doing nothing until something drops into their lap . Names please. P.S. Since you have already mentioned others making comments that are in your opinion tantamount to libel I am sure your response will be defendable and factual.
  12. Yes and I see that the website are now posting that the Kings Lynn meeting scheduled for May has been put back to September avoiding two meetings in one week there so at least we will have a season that doesn't end in August has it has been doing recently. All's well that ends well.
  13. Well that looks like a very astute piece of fixture planning. Belle Vue on 4th May then Kings Lynn listed two days later , then Wolves on the 1st June and Belle Vue two days later. Two meetings two days apart sounds a great way to really get the crowds in ( I don't think so) and create a bit of atmosphere before the cameras . Of course as Belle Vue are due anyway on 3rd June I don't suppose it crossed anybody's mind to simply move that one back two days so we don't have two in the same week and have a more evenly spaced fixture list. Sky messing around with the fixtures like this is getting beyond the pale.
  14. It might be correct, but it cannot be right (if you see what I mean)
  15. The announcement last week was that it was being postponed because both clubs had riders missing. Last nights programme said that Ed Kennet was due to be riding but because of the Plymouth rescue package he is now needed by Rye House down there. It also said that two Wolves riders were due to be missing. It also said the match is going to be re-scheduled later in the year probably to be covered by " live TV" . Hmmm ...v Personally I don't really care as I would rather see the meeting when the weather is warmer.
  16. How do you know that, in your words "few if any newcomers attracted by the big names " ? Did you go round asking who the newcomers were and what attracted them ? How many did you speak to ? What did they say ? Another big crowd for Lakeside -v- Poole tonight. I suppose that was nothing to do with big names either and they would all have turned up regardless even if it was Berwick or Scunthorpe ?
  17. Amazing how people who weren't even there think they know what won the meeting. Huge home advantage? Dave Watt knows his way round the place after three seasons there but didn't capitalise on it. Hans and Adam Ellis made a mockery of idea of huge home advantage. In fact Hans gave a really top class professional display, as he always does at Lakeside. If Holder and Watt showed his application it might have been a different story. What won it was the Tatum effect. Lakeside have a history of fading in the latter stages of a match but what we are seeing this year is them keeping the pressure up all the way through. Pooles problem was that apart from Hans they were beaten in their minds once the Hammers got back into the match and their heads dropped. From a Lakeside perspective it was a really good Speedwáy meeting. It had everything including a big crowd. Read what the neutral texter (Halifaxtiger) says on Speedwáy updates. Early days yet and too soon to get carried away but the two Lewis' are gradually getting their Jawas sorted and things ( we hope) can only get better. Poole are still well and truly in the driving seat for the Championship but if the Hammers stay fit all those that predicted a bottom two finish for them may be in for a surprise.
  18. So Poole have failed to reach 60 and Elite League expert Gavan is stunned. For my part I am relieved. It could have been a lot worse. To put it in perspective Lakeside did better than Swindon. That's nothing to crow about but they came away without the sort of mauling that saps a teams confidence. There will be probably be plenty of other teams going to WR this year and not doing any better. It seems from what Shovvy says that the Hammers at least got stuck in and put up a bit of a fight which is not always the case away to Poole Good to see Lewis Kerr getting into the action, and Swid getting a win to keep his confidence up. Work in progress for LBR and Rob Mear it seems. Most importantly they all came through unscathed. Watt happened to Dave Watt ? Did he think he was still riding for Lakeside or is Father Time catching him up ?
  19. Sounds like your not there and therefore don't know what you are talking about.
  20. Another in-depth incisive and balanced peice of journalism by the Echo's ace sports reporter Phil Space. I doubt if anyone outside of the Echo' s sales area gives a toss what Matt thinks anymore than they give a toss about its other reports about, stolen by bicycles in Swanage, the Women's Institutes jam making evening in Blandford Forum or the or last Sunday's sermon at Evangelical Hall in Cheatford Muddlo ! Blue Touchpaper fails to ignite the damp squib !
  21. You can spend as much as you like on advertising but if the product is not what people want they won't come, or if they do come they won't come again. If it were simply a matter of advertising it would have been done. Crowds are not dwindling because people are unaware of the existence of the sport. Fans who have been going for years have drifted away. There are a whole range of complex reasons for this. The Fast Track / EDR farce has not helped.
  22. The Highway Code requires you to keep a safe distance from the car in front, and to only overtake when it is safe to do so. Those rules don't apply in any form of motor racing.
  23. Real life example Match A March 25th 2016 Lakeside -v- Kings Lynn Andreas Jonsson riding for Lakeside Neils Kristian Iverson riding for KL. Probably the last time NKI will ride at Lakeside this season, possibly the last time ever. Biggest crowd for probably more than a year. Start had to be delayed because they were still coming in. Real life example Match B April 1st 2016 , Lakeside v Leicester. Leicester have no star riders and the crowd is probably half what it was for the KL match Decent sized crowd virtually guaranteed next Friday when Poole come because Chris Holder will always pull the crowds even more so when he was with Darcy. Anyway, the question was, what evidence do you have that spending £3 k a week on advertising will bring the crowds in ?
  24. It won't be close , nor will most visiting teams keep it close. For the majority of home matches Poole will have 8 points on the board before the meeting even starts by reason of their virtually guaranteed 5-1's in heats 2 and 12, now that Adam Ellis is gating well. Watt and Hans at 3 and 4 should be a tremendous pairing if they are anything like usual home form. I woukd say Team Revolution are still working on their Jawas to bring them up to speed. Both are very fast in a straight line seem a bit hit and miss from the gate and it's pretty obvious on watching them that they have the usual Jawa problem of dying a bit on the bends. Certainly that seems to be the case at Lakeside so far. I suspect they will be more dialled in as the season progresses but at this stage I think if Lakeside keep to within 20 points they will be doing as well as most teams at Wimby Road this year.
  25. The rules require the referee to exclude the rider deemed to be the PRIMARY cause of the stoppage. The first thing in the sequence of events that led to the stoppage was Dudek slowing. That set up the chain of events that followed and therefore must be the PRIMARY cause. Kildemand wouldn't have hit him if he hadn't slowed in th first place, therefore Kildemand hitting him is a secondary cause of the stoppage. Dudek should have gone.
