You can possibly support a team through thick & thin but not through thin & thinner. -

Probably best to cut their losses, pay off the riders, pay the SCB fines for not completing the fixtures, save the supporters from any more embarassment, close down now. -

Son and I are not bothering for rest of season, amazed we've stuck it out till last week, the whole package is lacking considerably. -
New Rider For Sheffield

Be good to see Andre back, he's entertainment and that's what I pay for, as is Richard hall, so if a 1-5 rider has to make way, it has to be Joe Haines. -

Last year in the knock out cup versus Newcastle, we got the big win at home, 58-32, then an even bigger loss at Newcastle in the return, 62-28, which incidently marked the end of my support for Sheffield for last season. Somehow I don't even think we'll get a significant lead from the home leg this time. -

And they are all probably higher up the league table than Sheffield because they make changes. -
Was hoping he would be tempted to ride for Bradford if it re-opens next year, being the only rider from the victorious 1997 team still riding, now that would have been a fitting end to a superb career. All the best Joe.

Why does haines riding at no 2 make a difference to his scoring ? If he rides at no 2, he meets all opposing riders once & their no 2 twice If he rides at no 3, he meets riders 1,2,3 & 4 once, 2 & 6 twice, and doesn't meet the other reserve. In my opinion it's purely down to his gating ability, exactly the same as when we had Ben Wilson. -

Yes, 10 home heat winners, but only Stead,3 times, & Haines, once, came round after their race to acknowledge the crowds applause.Disgusting, we're constantly told to get behind the team, but are the team bothered ? Why so many laps of ineffective track grading, the spinner does not bring the dirt back in from the outside, so that just gets deeper as the meeting progresses, and becomes more unsafe to venture into, especially exiting the second bend, what is wrong with using the angled grader, it's not rocket science ! -
Looks like Sheffield have scored an own goal in the "Richard of the week" nomination with todays post on the Sheffield Star webpage, seems Wells & Stead are getting another crack at the pairs this Friday !

Don't see what you've got to apologise for, it was a sound assessment of the team & guest, & proved accurate by the meeting. You can only speak your mind for so long with Sheffield speedway, they just can't accept when they're in the wrong. -
The Sheffield team is the four mentioned riders plus three national league youngsters according to the Dudley website

Sheffield V Workington 18/ 04/2013@ 7.45pm

Have to agree on tractor comments, it was the same for both teams, both of which had riders caught out when they ventured into the deep stuff on the outside, grading left a lot to be desired, track was way too deep on outside, particularly on 1st and 2nd bends, and the spinner only breaks up the surface, it needed the angled grader to bring the muck to the inside, not rocket science, just good management. I'd replace Koppe with Sanchez, with Albin in the team I feel they would bounce off each other with healthy competition between them. -
Doesn't seem to be much interest or opinion in the opening fixture !

While watching a recent programme about Sid James, a brief clip was shown featuring him in the above film from 1949, but more interesting was the obvious roar of speedway in the background. Further digging indeed found the film was actually based around speedway in the late 1930s. Filming was at New Cross speedway, so if you fancy a little nostalgia, in B/W of course, before the season gets underway, then it's easy to find on youtube and only lasts 1hour38mins.
