Some of the Rebels regulars (some who have been going to speedway since the early sixties) said they have never experienced such gales at a speedway meeting. The light stantions were swaying, paper bags blew at speed across the centre green, seagulls were blown off course, the large double entrance gates suddenly burst open and a huge wooden panel came adrift on the home straight fence, causing some spectators to take cover. Referee Mike Posselwhite met with the team managers on the centre green at one stage to review conditions. Suddenly, the sun came out, but the wind continued followed by several bursts of rain. It was more like November than late June. The Rebels were truly on fire. Zach however had a poor meeting. Seemed under power and lacked aggression at the crucial first turn. Jake Allen is proving to be a fantastic signing. He has great potential and has more that proved his worth this season. Starke and Wright provided their usual high octane performances, Wright in an after match interview claimed the wind helped him, as it 'blew him even closer to the fence, where he wanted to be anyway'. For the Panthers, Ostergaard was on the pace in all of his races and really put a 'shift' in. Cook seemed to be shaken after his fall in heat 5, and didn't seem to too interested after that. Credit to Jackobsen who fought hard in every race. He really did look the part and was unlucky to only score a handful of points. Definitely worth double his score. This Rebels side is entertainment personified (to use a Dave Lanning saying) and I am certain they will win more silverware this season

He also bottled a few heat 14's too!! -
In fairness to KK, and I am one of his fiercest critics, he did look sublime last night (as he sometimes can). I still say he is incredibly frustrating and will produce the odd inexplicable zero from time to time, even though he looked arguably the quickest rider on show last night. Concur with most on here, cracking meeting though. Conveniently finished just in time to see Ireland's winner too.

Brilliant rider to watch. Utterly fearless. 100% effort at all times.

And if the track was built the same as Blackbird road, the racing would be better...... -

Precisely. Not sure there's the need for name calling, but if anyone thinks that EL promoters are pure as the driven snow, then they have to think again! It just so happen that Ford is the best at scrutinising, then manipulating and eeking out even the tiniest of advantages from the over complicated rule book. I am sure there are others that come a close second and third!! -

Spoke to Tungate last night at Somerset. He reckons he's taking a break for a few weeks to get some physio on his shoulder. To be fair he didn't look fit and then had an engine seizure whilst leading that almost threw him off his machine. He definitely looked uncomfortable after that. -

Yes, a big helping of humble pie for me! To be fair to the Bears, they fought tooth and nail, right to the end. Bellego, Andersen, Skidmore and to a lesser extent, Robson and Nielsen, all mixed it well with the Rebels. In particular, Bellego looked excellent when in front. Very stylish and very much at home on the fast OTA. Andersen was quick from the gate and once again, another Dane looking at home on the Smerset track. The Rebels were a little unlucky with Tungate packing up whilst leading on the final bend, the force of the seizure throwing Tungate forward in a jolting movement, no doubt causing him more discomfort to his injured shoulder. Wright and Starke provided the usual excitement, both as usual regularly missing the gate. BWD, was good value for his 11 point haul, without looking particularly quick. In fact I thought on occasions his bike looked sluggish. His exclusion in heat 14, caused some howls of derision from the Somerset faithful, but on speaking with others with a better view of the incident, it appears ref Ronnie Allen was correct in his decision. Nice to be at the OTA in bright sunshine. Overall the racing was good and kept the interest of a decent crowd. Even a large group of Geese flew over to take a look, as did a rather spooky looking drone, that mysteriously hovered over the track for a full 10 minutes! -
Now where have heard that before!!

Somerset V Redcar Pl 3/6/16

Easy win for the Rebs. Even without Jake and Zach. Josh, Tungate , Wrighty and Starkey will score a hatful against what looks a poor Redcar side.
