  1. Can anyone else believe that the last few pages have contained posts from grown ups? Quite incredible really.
  2. That's twice in a couple of days I've agreed with you. See, you can post sensibly without getting wound up by others!
  3. The beauty about speedway is that it is totally unpredictable. When teams require guests, most team managers choose riders that are either in good form or have a proven track record at a particular track. Garry May certainly does this. The choice of Bewley was an astute one for sure. However, sometimes it just doesn't happen. In the play off semi finals a year or so ago, Somerset chose Kennett as a guest for Kurtz. Kennett was poor on the night. That's the way it goes. You win some, you lose some. There is lots of talk about who would have won the meeting if the Rebels didn't have Bewley in their side. The likelihood on current form if both teams were at full strength , would probably have been a Glasgow win, but a tight win at that. But that wasn't the case. Aroundtheboards is simply stating facts and what it says in black and white. A two point win for Somerset.
  4. Oh dear, ifs buts and maybes ..... Tremendous win without Jake Allen.
  5. Is there really a 20 minute delay whilst there is track grading? Incredible.
  6. Let's hope some of the Rebels riders read your post! A good motivational tool for sure!
  7. Agreed, it was always said that this team would be consistently inconsistent. And so it has proved. Poole may have themselves been inconsistent away from home, but they are comfortable around Blunsdon, as they proved earlier this season.
  8. Kennett also failed to turn up at Somerset recently. The reason given was illness.
  9. Not too much to add to Drew's post, only to say a decent crowd witnessed some top class racing with the aforementioned brilliant rides from Starkey. Jake Allen, despite his obvious disappointment in shedding his second chain on the start line (his sheer anguish could be heard from where I was stood!), was once again involved in some great races. His battles with Howarth and especially Bates in heat 8 were simply superb. Jason Garrity is certainly an extraordinary character. After crashing in one race, Ambulance staff raced to assist him but they were sent on their way by the Mancunian with some choice words!! Strange lad. Sheffield definitely arrived st the OTA thinking they had a chance of nicking a point or two and their riders were certainly fired up from the start. An animated Simon Stead led a team meeting after heat 8 at the entrance to the pit gates urging his team mates on. A mention to Ez Curtis and the track staff last night who managed to repair a hole that appeared from nowhere on the 3rd and 4th bend in rapid time, causing only a 5 minute delay to proceedings.
  10. Swindon is the best place to live after Poole? Really? I'm a Swindonian but I can think of plenty of other places I'd rather live!
  11. Christ I remember seeing him a few years back riding for Poole against Swindon at Wimbourne road. He looked true class. I'm amazed his career has gone downhill so fast. His equipment always seemed immaculate too, and has been said, a top team man.
  12. Thought it would be a shame not to pass comment on last night's meeting. The Scorpions kept the table topping Rebels honest throughout without ever looking particularly threatening. Numerous re runs prevented momentum and a very dusty track made visibility at the end, very difficult. Good to see Jake Allen back to his best and Tungate continued his sublime form around the OTA, apart from his one blip in heat 11. For the visitors, I thought Palm Toft and Douglas fought hard to keep their side in it. Ronnie Allen's decision to exclude Wilson-Dean ensured he suffered the wrath of the home fans and Bradley just about managed to avoid being fined by the experienced referee by keeping his hands down and gesturing to the refs box as he trudged disconsolately back to the pits. I firmly believe this is the most exciting Rebels team. Certainly never a dull moment and a team packed full of racers.
  13. But there again, I wonder what would have happened if both Jake Allen and Paul Starke were their usual selves? All if and buts, as with every speedway meeting.
  14. I was at that meeting Doris. Adams flew from the tapes in heat 15, and for once the little master failed to look over his shoulder and almost fenced Chrznowski on the back straight. I too was jumping around in the stand. A magnificent win that was.
  15. Not so much in 2007 though. Although we still managed a win a last heat decider at Brandon.
  16. An alternative route for you to consider coombers is Trowbridge, Frome, Wells. A little further but absolutely no traffic at all.
  17. Of course it depends where you live and the perils of the M5 on a Friday night, but I am amazed how few Swindon fans attend the OTA, especially as the Rebels outfit contains 3 Robins this season. The racing is almost always top class and the facilities are pretty good too. Maybe the ridiculous 'summer break' will tempt a few down in the next couple of weeks.
  18. Sounds like one and the same. In addition, his bike did sound suspiciously like the aforementioned tractor too!
