  1. Rye House making the play offs? No chance. Nowhere near strong enough. Harris and Nicholls are always superb to watch because they never ever give up, but the team were woeful at Swindon last night.
  2. I did say Doyle reminded me of Adams for a second or two! That said, Doyle is more likely to become a GP world champion. Something the little master unfortunately was never able to do.
  3. It's a while since I've seen a meeting at Blunsdon. How times have changed over the past year or so. I used to be able to see the lights of Haydon Wick and Greenmeadow from my vantage point on the grass bank entering the third bend. Now, its numerous new houses, one of which literally backs onto the pits! 70 year old Ronnie Russell and his team prepared a superb smooth track for tonight's meeting, although there didn't seem to be too much grip on the outside. Swindon currently look a team full of confidence. Jason Doyle produced a sublime performance and is simply at the top of his game. An indication of how speedway riders run their lives nowadays was watching Doyle use crutches to walk along the dog track to the start line for the pre meeting parade!! Simply no time to be injured these days! Doyle is absolutely imperious around the Abbey. For a second or two, his masterful control reminded me of the great Leigh Adams, but curiously, he never once looked for his team mates. In heat 13, one got the impression that he was thinking that there was no way Nick Morris was going to finish in front of him. In heat 10 when momentarily there was a requirement to ensure the impressive Tobiasz Musielak stayed with him and in second place, but Doyle just cleared off with no thought of shepherding his new team mate around. That said, I'd rather a Jason Doyle in my team than say, a underperforming Holder, a poor KK or an inconsistent Nilsson Cook or Harris. Nick Morris looks a fine rider these days and forms a powerful spearhead with Doyle. Then there's the find of the season, David Bellego. Unlucky to have an engine failure whilst leading heat 9, his pass of Ricky Wells in heat 14 oozed class. With Adam Ellis at last finding some form and BWD looking feisty and aggressive, if not a little wild on occasions, the Robins are shaping up to be a real late threat. A mention for Zach Wajtknecht too. I watched him regularly last season at Somerset where he often lacked aggression especially going into the first bend. He has improved in this area now, but has added some excellent passing moves to his armoury. For Rye, Nichols, Robson and Harris battled as they always will, but it has to be said, the Hertfordshire outfit look relegation candidates to me. Great to see Swindon getting stronger as the season progresses and the crowds appear to be on their way back with a definite feel good factor around.
  4. But twice at home by the same team in the same season??? Where have you moved onto? Surely not to support another club?
  5. Yes, come on, let's keep this thread on track....let's discuss things like Pirates heaviest home defeat, the last time the Pirates were thumped at home twice in one season by the same team without the showers being sabotaged.....any other records that the Robins have broken?
  6. I wonder, does KK hold the record for the amount of times he has been sacked by British clubs, or even for fake injuries or worst excuses for not riding?
  7. As you corrected DC2 on his spelling earlier......It's "threatening " not "threating"
  8. Stick to your "knowledge" of all things Peterborough KKS.
  9. Just back from a week away and thought I'd catch up Swindon's recent results but to also look forward to some speedway (for a change) with other clubs involved. Unfortunately once again, several threads are populated by the same arguments and disputes, which has nothing whatsoever to do with the title of the thread. I make a plea to the mods, for the sake of at least the reputation of this form and to prevent genuine supporters like myself leaving in their droves, please, please monitor the threads and take whatever action deemed necessary.
  10. It really is quite incredible that the mods allow this juvenile bickering to continue. I was quite keen to find out about the Wolves v Rye meeting, but as others have said, there is pages of arguments to get through before one can get to any informed comments on the meeting itself.
  11. I remember the days when you could come n to the Wolves thread and have a meaningful discussion and a decent debate with knowledgeable fans. Every time I drop in these days, there seems to be a noticeable toxic atmosphere. For what it's worth, I reckon Monmore is an excellent track. Yes it's small and tight, but I've always been of the opinion that it's a pleasure to see a rider using all his skills and abilities mastering a tight track. Leigh Adams at Lakesde for example. I also recall a supreme 15 point maximum by Ole Olsen at Oxford in the 70's. Simply breathtaking riding and throttle control.
  12. Currently Jeremycorbynfan on the Peterborough thread. Annoying everyone on there too.
  13. Yes it s, it supports Peterborough.....or is it Swindon.....or maybe Poole....who know' next season.
  14. He's at Somerset Friday night Sid. Guesting for a Rebels select side, along with Zach.
  15. There was a time when we didn't use our other asset who almost won the world championships last season....
  16. Be realistic will you, Swindon haven't previously won at Poole for donkeys years! It's never been a particularly happy hunting ground and any victory there is a major plus. Furthermore, as the bragging rights are currently with the Robins due their victory there earlier this season (sorry for mentioning it again ), then there are bound to be some Swindon fans with their rods out!
  17. Saw young Anders Rowe for the first time at Somerset on Friday. I know some of you guys have commented on him on the Swindon thread previously. He looked superb for a 15 year old and he reeled off a paid maximum. He has an accomplished 'arm chair' racing style with that so familiar high right elbow of our former legend.
  18. I was indeed, Leigh Adams was interviewed after the meeting and openly stated how suspicious the Poole antics had been all night with their so called "engine failures".
  19. I guess my point is that Huckenbeck looked the business no disputing that, but would he deliver this kind of performance week in week out at the OTA? I have seen many riders rack up a hatful of points in their first few meetings at Somerset, before reverting to type or at least reverting to what is their normal level of performance in the next visit. Didn't Eric Reiss (another German) score tremendously well for Edinburgh a few years back? Since then he's pretty much struggled at Somerset. One foreign rider who's name escapes me at the moment (I'm sure Statman would have the answer) scored around 13/14 points at the OTA a season or so back, then on his next visit scored either zero or one..... I agree with you that winning at home is imperative and this will see the turnstiles continuing to click each week, but I'm just thinking Huckenbeck in the long run, would be a Paul Starke, Todd Kurtz, Kyle Newman type rider.
  20. Didn't Poole have something like 7 "engine failures " that night?
  21. But most riders love the OTA. We could sign up pretty much anyone with a similar average to Huckenbeck and they will quickly get dialled into the track. It's away performances that really make a difference. Do the business at home and pick up vital points away too. Would Huckenbeck do that? Not so sure.
  22. A deserved win for the Stars last night. Slightly confused as to why Kurtz was excluded for the first bend incident with Holder when it appeared from my position that Kurtz's footrest got caught in Holder's front wheel. Although it was Holder that took a tumble, surely a case of 'first bend bunching?' Kings Lynn certainly turned up to race hard. Their top 4 eventually proving too strong for the depleted Rebels outfit. Holder looked sharp, Lambert very fast, especially in his opening races before he faded. I haven't seen that much of Lambert, only at the OTA where he always looks impressive, but my one observation is that he seems to have the English 'disease' of being a poor gater. Hopefully this will improve over time as I recognise he is still a teenager and has great potential. Batchelor appears to have regained his enthusiasm and looked excellent when in front. He still lacks the 'killer instinct " that the high class riders possess though. As soon as a rider gets near him pr there's a slightly risky pass to execute (and there were a few of them for him as he was very quick) the tell tale left foot reaches for the shale as a reassurance. Huckenbeck was simply the match winner for the Stars. He attacked the track from the off and seemed to get faster as the night progressed. The Rebels seemed a little 'down trodden' last night. Josh got filled in during heat one, Jake Allen was distinctly off colour and rider replacement offered a poor substitute for Charles Wright. Cameron Heeps was sorely missed at reserve and it was noticeable how poor Robert Branford looked. He appears to have gone backwards this season if last night's performance was anything to go by. The racing last night was surprisingly processional until the second half of the meeting. Graczjonek' s superb pass of Holder was breathtaking. Kurt'z's wheel to wheel battle with Batchelor for all four laps, top class, and Richard Lawson's general riding throughout was imperious. Another decent crowd at the OTA and pleasing that the crowds are returning each week despite their poor home record. I still believe a full strength Rebels team will take some beating around their home track Just an observation on a rider who featured in the second half of the meeting for Kent Kings. I know a few Swindon fans have commented on him previously, but young Anders Rowe at 15 years old looks a brilliant prospect. Dare I say it, but the young lad has an "arm chair' racing style, so similar to a certain..... no I won't say it......
  23. You are right, he wasn't/isn't a normal guy. Perhaps if he was wearing superhero T shirt bought from the stall, that would be a more appropriate description of him
  24. I was there and I can assure others who weren't there that the track was in no way unfit to ride. For the Rebels, Wright, Allen and Lawson, literally flew around the OTA. There were plenty of racing lines which they and Worrall, Fricke and Bjerre for the Aces, exploited with regular ease. I am astounded that someone like Lemon thought the track was dangerous. Sure, plenty of riders were regularly throwing down tear offs but trust me, to watch the above mentioned hurtling into each bend showed me and the fans at the track that the OTA was more than raceable.
