  1. Maybe, but he also had an engine failure in his last ride.
  2. Erik only scored 7 points in that final, so it wouldn't have made much difference even if he'd won the race.
  3. Chris Morton=rubbish gater, great overtaker. Lance King=Not committed enough to the BL. Tommy Knudsen=injured too much. Henka Gustafsson=smoked too much Phil Crump=too nice(unlike sonny boy.) Jan Andersson=got a nose bleed when he left the inside Zenon Plech=fastest rider in the world in 79(should've beaten Mauger.) Mikael Karlsson=looked like taking over from Rickardsson, changed his name and went backwards. Moran brothers=all the talent in the world, but enjoyed the sauce too much.
  4. I've criticised Tai in the past for rabbiting away with Hancock and slurping from his bottle while the anthem plays, but, short of singing along at the top of his lungs with tears streaming down his face, he behaved impeccably on the podium. As for the anthem, we should 'adopt' Russia's. They won't be needing it for a while!
  5. Let's face it, it doesn't matter what preparations Chris Harris makes before each gp. He's never going to win. World champions are born, not made. When Scott Nicholls begins a sentence "Chris, bless him," you know that you're in trouble!
  6. There are not many better riders to watch than fast Freddie when he's 'on it'. Coventry on Monday, and tonight showed that. Jarek's a great rider, but not the most exciting!
  7. One of your 'wonder boys' Janowski couldn't beat him, no matter how bad Harris is. What does that say about your lot?
  8. I wish Pawlicki would stop falling off, I'm missing Eurovision!!
  9. Good to see Lindback & Lindgren on it tonight. Jonsson being left behind!
  10. Barry started riding about the same time as Dave Jessup, (although Thommo was a couple of years older), they were of similar ability at first, but Thommo enjoyed the social side of the sport, and was in the bar after meetings chatting to the fans, while the more dedicated DJ was tucked up in bed! Obviously Jessup was top class, but given the choice between watching him or Thommo every Friday night at the Wick is a definite no-brainer, they were at opposite ends of the excitement scale. Mind you we would have won more matches with DJ, but who cares! I know I speak for every Hackney fan when I say we felt almost privileged to watch him for twenty unforgettable years. Apart from winning the 1970 British junior championship, (beating Jessup into second place incidentally), his finest moment for me was when he rode between the team riding Ivan Mauger and Scott Autrey coming off the last bend after four pulsating laps to give Hackney the win, and White City the league title. Strangely enough he always seemed to have Mauger's measure at Waterden Road, and more often than not would beat him, even if he was having a bad night he'd always pull out something extra against Ivan.
  11. The same could be said of Karl Maier. He could've been a top speedway rider, I remember him having a great race with Sigalos in the 83 world final, but like Muller, he prefered longtrack.
  12. Even though he didn't really fulfill his early promise he was definitely about to break through in 91. Emerging from the shadows of Andy Galvin and Steve Schofield, and having more responsibility did him the world of good. He was averaging over 10, and was on the verge of an England call up when he badly broke his arm, and that was basically that. He was still only 23 at the time so he could've still made it.
  13. I always felt that Hans Andersen could've achieved more. When he was 'public enemy number 1' just after the 2004 world cup, he was always finishing on the gp rostrum and it only seemed a matter of time until he overtook Nicki as top Dane. Then he changed and became 'Mr nice guy' and started to slip down the rankings. Perhaps he should've stayed more ruthless like Nicki!
  14. How nice it must be to have your best rider, ride at number 7
  15. A definite case of 'after the lord mayors show.' What a letdown after the classic earlier.
  16. And the 'legend' wraps it up. Let's hope the next meeting's a cracker too.
  17. I'm hoping for a home win, just to p!$$ off a certain Pole.
  18. I must say I'm not missing Emil at all. The two young Poles have livened up the series, and considering there was only a couple of points between the top ten on Saturday proves what a close series we're going to have this year. Obviously having Emil in the series would improve it, but he's the loser in all this.
