  1. I can't recall those three ever refusing to play for their country..
  2. Yeah fair enough. Just realised that Emil wears his own colours-although he's probably exempt! Great to see the Aussies getting shoved from pillar to post in the last couple of races
  3. They'll have to whip up a team racesuit for young Chugunov for tomorrow
  4. I remember the Golden Jubilee meeting at Hackney in Feb 78 (the coldest meeting I've been to, and that includes the 88 ice final!) All the riders were riding the vintage machines from the 20's/30's and 40's. Most of the riders were trying to ride the old bikes in their usual riding style, and not doing too well.. The only rider who looked totally at home was Barry Thomas who really got into the spirit and rode like a pioneer leg-trailer. I often felt that Thommo's riding style would have been more suited to the early years of the sport!
  5. I blame Little Miss Muffet for the cobweb situation at King's Lynn.
  6. Team One-Absolutely Team Two-Only in Poland Team Three-Not a chance in hell.
  7. You're not still banging that drum are you? I think it's safe to say that if the 2015 final wasn't re-run with Cookie a mile in front, Tai would have found a way to get to Belle Vue last year to win it back. This way he could retire as the undefeated champion.
  8. Just as long as they still wanted to ride in the British Final and SWC I think most fans would understand.
  9. That was easy enough. At least we'll get some decent competition in the final
  10. Oh no, not the old bird! Where's Natalie? Edit; Phew, she's here
  11. I feel the complete opposite. A glimmer of hope for us
  12. Woffinden shouldn't be considered, or Nicholls for that matter. You can't just pick and choose when you want to ride for your country, it should be all or nothing. Britain should do what Denmark did some years back and go with the youngsters, (Cook and Harris-if he's on form, excepted.) Bewley could be ready in a year or two, and with natural progression from Lambert and S Worrall, Woffinden could be just a fading memory in a few years time.
  13. Same here. I was about to add my Wimbledon v Hackney memories, (Galvin 'organising' a 5-0, the '88 cup final, Terry Heath's 'white knuckle ride' coach trip) thinking "Damn, others have beaten me to it today." Then I realised they had beat me by 13 years!
  14. Billy Janniro-7 times National Champion..surely that makes him one of the greatest Whatever happened to Chris Manchester? He was pretty decent as I recall, then he just seemed to disappear.
  15. Ila was always a popular visitor to Waterden Road. He was Finland's number 1 for a long time before Niemi came along. RIP
  16. Poland could drop their gp stars and go with; Hampel, Protasiewicz, Pr Pawlicki and Kolodziej and still more than likely win. There's a scary thought
  17. The only good thing to come out of tonight for me was seeing young Bewley for the first time. The lad looks a real talent with a great riding style. It took me back in time 30 years to another talented youngster in his first season-Mark Loram. Let's hope Dan can achieve what Mark did.
  18. As long as Nicholls ain't there, I couldn't give a shiny one. All the lads in the line-up want to ride for England, so that's good enough for me. As long as they give it a go and enjoy themselves, who the hell cares.
  19. These riders may be legends in your eyes, but to me they're just names. Obviously from what I've read about them they were great riders, but having never seen them how could I compare them to riders I have seen?
  20. Top 5 Tony Rickardsson Hans Nielsen Ivan Mauger Jason Crump Greg Hancock Favourite 5 Barry Thomas Zenon Plech Mark Loram Andy Galvin Alan Mogridge
  21. Jiri Stancl - won umpteen national titles Toni Kasper - ex Hackney, nuff said Vaclav Verner - Exeter legend Lukas Dryml - gp leader briefly in 2003 Vaclav Milik - could be the best of the lot I always think of Stancl, Dryml (senior), Ondrasik, Verner etc.. as the riders filling the bottom 5 places in 70's/80's world finals!
  22. What are you talking about? The guy's got 3 metal plates and 14 screws in his foot, and you expect him to be skipping around the pits with no crutches! I think your hatred of Doyle is blinding you of the fact that he's the most determined rider on the circuit, who will hopefully end the year as world champion.
