  1. I only realised the meaning of this character a couple of years ago, even though I was a big Everett fan..I felt such a Stupid *unt.
  2. Alan Grahame was reserve in 84 and scored 5 pts from 2 rides.
  3. I don't know why anybody cares about this play-off nonsense anyway. The last real league champions were Oxford 17 years ago.
  4. Is there a Belle Vue v King's Lynn play-off anywhere? I could only find heat 1 on youtube.
  5. I've seen no evidence of Zmarzlik being a dirty rider, hard and aggressive certainly. But you have to be to get anywhere these days..unless you have Hancock's gating skills. I think Woffinden tends to get a bit precious over a bit of hard riding, although Nicki's move on him in Malilla wasn't even hard, never mind dirty. I don't know how Woffy (and Janowski) would've coped against Olsen and Nielsen! Being British I guess I want Tai to win, but I wouldn't mind if it was Zmarzlik, simply because I love watching him race.
  6. Easy one for me. The great Barry Thomas chasing down the team-riding Ivan Mauger and Scott Autrey before flying past them off the final bend, winning the meeting for Hackney and the league for White City.
  7. Woffy will be alright. He's got the experience to see the job through. I'm a massive fan of Zmarzlik and I'm sure he'll be world champion, but not this year.
  8. RIP Ronnie Moore, a sporting legend.
  9. Greatest riders Tony Rickardsson, Hans Nielsen, Ivan Mauger, Ole Olsen, Peter Collins, Michael Lee, Greg Hancock, Jason Crump, Darcy Ward, Tai Woffinden. Greatest entertainers Barry Thomas, Zenon Plech, Tomasz Gollob, Mark Loram, Andy Galvin, Kelly Moran, Alan Mogridge, Chris Morton, Kelvin Mullarkey, Bartosz Zmarzlik
  10. I think Zmarzlik's brilliant, easily the most exciting rider in the series. Although he does tend to get himself in a muddle when he misses the start, as was the case on Saturday..He goes too fast for his brain to keep up! He's like a young Zenon Plech who seemed to be out of control most of the time in his early years, but he calmed down (a bit) as I'm sure the Bart-man will.
  11. Scanning through an old speedway yearbook it was strange that Tony won the award considering Roman had a higher average and four double figure scores-including a max at Swindon on his first visit. Unfortunately he didn't really push-on to be another Zenon Plech, although he rode in a couple of world finals in later years.
  12. Some performance by Leszno considering Brady and Pawlicki were virtual passengers. Can't see past them for the league.
  13. I remember he won the newcomer of the year award, pipping Hawks' Roman Jankowski (something else those pesky Racers beat us to that year!) I think he was injured too early in his career to know if he would've made it. I personally feel that he would have, with Briggo's (and probably Mauger's backing.)
  14. All these unsatisfactory starts in gp's just sucks the energy out of the meeting. You just think "here we go again" as the mechanics come charging onto the track and start 'fannying about' (I believe that's the technical term for it.) Half the time a rider's just reacted quickly and made the perfect start, but the ref assumes he must have cheated. It certainly doesn't pay to have quick reflexes anymore..Bob Kilby would suffer these days!
  15. Some great racing. Cardiff is a special occasion but I'd take a proper rut-free racetrack any day. Well done Dan Bewley.
  16. He did look totally bemused every time they showed him. I think he entered a 'collect 20 crisp packets and become a referee for the night' competition..
  17. He does come across better these days. Also he seemed genuinely pleased for Cook when he beat him and was helping him when he crashed. I think I'm warming to him because I'm finding myself wanting him to do well in the gp's after not really caring how he did the last few years. Still a shame he doesn't do the British Final mind..
  18. Congrats to the Bart-man, deserving winner..Such a great riding style and not so erratic these days. Good to see Woffy extend his lead and Cookie winning races. Whatever you think of Hancock, the guy's still making finals at 48 which is pretty remarkable..Although it seems that time and injuries are catching up on Nicki. Hope Doyle's not badly hurt.
  19. Glad you mentioned this. Was gonna lump on Woffy at 10/3.
  20. Chuffed for Robert, beating such a quality line-up. Hopefully he can repeat it at Cardiff.
