  1. If you pay more than the shop down the road's asking price for an item, you've paid dearly, irrespective of what your bank balance is. So it is with fines, at Wimbledon you can end up paying a lot of money, whoever you are. http://www.deseretnews.com/article/171029/FOR-THE-RECORD-MCENROES-TANTRUMS-AND-FINES.html?pg=all
  2. At the time he had fines and was banned from membership at Wimbledon and I think Queens. Look at some of the fines imposed at Wimbledon this year for abusive behaviour. http://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/57000-in-fines-doled-out-to-players-at-this-years-wimbledon-a3287971.html
  3. He paid dearly for his behaviour though. You're right that he was box office but 99.9% of people have never heard of Tai.
  4. Being offended isn't getting a life? It actually shows that some people still have standards. Havvy was badly hurt in a track crash, it has affected him in many ways, you might also notice that he has very little use of one arm.
  5. That just appears to be an attempt to be provocative or stop others saying something you don't like. Whatever anyone else might have done, makes no difference to whether he is justified or wrong in using profanities in front of what we proudly claim to be a family audience (both at the track and on TV), it made little difference to me personally but I could imagine that some watching with their children would be upset. By the way, Havelock and Ward faced suspension for their misdemeanours.
  6. I thought it was a bit beyond swearing but I suppose any sort of profanity is now classed as such. Anyway if people wish to complain they do have the right to.
  7. He's a cert. unfortunately there aren't enough other 'certs' to win it (hopefully I'm wrong).
  8. Yes, but the forum is for anyone with an interest, to express it.
  9. One doesn't justify the other, except possibly if you're Alan Grahame.
  10. Well I only asked a very simple question (of someone else) and I didn't quite agree with the original point about 'we should all back him.' I was really objecting to the notion that all riders are gods and beyond criticism.
  11. Are those sponges like for like and are they free-floating and in small pieces? There probably isn't a true comparison here.
  12. Slightly an 'over the top' reply to my question but thank you for responding.
  13. Should 'we' not be allowed to criticise something when 'we' feel that criticism is warranted?
  14. Speedway can't afford to lose any more 'supporters' even though they might be adhered to an armchair. I started going to Speedway in the very early 50s, I'm the son of a pioneer rider, worked as a mechanic and sometime sponsor and travelled all over the country. These days I'm elderly, partially sighted, skint and a very long way from the nearest track. I sometimes make critical remarks, as is my right, if you don't like that, maybe I could get young Woffinden to describe where you can go? I should add that I thoroughly enjoyed the GP.
  15. Well he didn't get a good education, he admits to having difficulty reading or writing.
  16. In the 'Internationale' at Wimbledon, if you failed to score in two successive rides, you missed your next ride (just that one) and a reserve got a go. It added a bit of interest as well.
  17. He'd probably join the Aussies! Exactly! And others having done it doesn't make it acceptable.
  18. Just keep him gagged for the wooden spoon inquest interviews.
  19. I didn't see (or hear) the interview in question or who the interviewer was but there is no excuse for using such words when you are representing your sport on the media. To be honest I get slightly frustrated with some of the daft questions in some interviews, usually from people who are simply there as eye candy, it would be better if interviews came from former riders or even current ones who aren't involved in that particular meeting.
