  1. The 'costs' shouldn't be significantly different, change the number seven for a more experienced rider (remember that the Premiership ave is to be reduced to 42) and that's it. They don't have the option, all clubs have agreed to commit to the new set-up.
  2. I wouldn't say 'mediocre' he was much in demand.
  3. I think that'll happen, the way some clubs are struggling.
  4. Of course there's 'little difference' that's why they have a promotion/relegation play-off at the end of the season and the 50 point team building level will be reduced to 42 after the first averages.
  5. Isn't this a bit pointless, they've gone for Robert and I'd be very surprised if they change that.
  6. I remember Eric Boothroyd saying that Alan Hunt (who he rode with at one time) was his favourite rider. Briggo once said the same about Crutcher, he was tipped to be a World Champion but didn't seem to ride for long. I'm sure many of us saw the other names you featured.
  7. Well he's certainly got an attractive side to promote, it'd be worth going just to watch Garrity and Barker.
  8. I think it's more likely that he took his ball home after the Bears dropped him a few years ago, similarly with Monarchs.
  9. I'm not sure there are any at the moment, the old two year limit on doubling up has been scrapped to increase rider availability. Priority is given to the parent club or the first signed club, in the event of a fixture clash. Trebling up riders usually prioritise the upper league.
  10. Imagine the heat 15s with Garrity and Barker! Better get the fence re-enforced!
  11. That looks like a team that means business.
  12. I might be wrong but I thought the JAWA competition division had become separate from the road bikes.
  13. Peter Ljung! Interesting post on Twitter.
  14. There can be some long gaps between heats ;-) http://picclick.co.uk/1969-7-APRIL-32614-Halifax-Speedway-Programme-122108036425.html#&gid=1&pid=1 This shows the notices I mentioned.
  15. I remember at Halifax the 'no unauthorised photography' notice was usually at the bottom of the front of the programme. Some cameras had auto flash and were wielded by people who didn't know how to disable it, in recent years there was the Darcy Ward incident, when he pulled up thinking it was the red light. There are plenty of people showing their speedway photos these days, so the rule is either no longer used or rarely enforced.
  16. Because of the danger from flash and because it helped the pro photographers. They used to say that a flash from the centre green didn't affect the riders as much as from the crowd. Having said that, you still saw people doing it but there would be a "no unauthorised photography" notice somewhere in the programme, as well as a "betting prohibited" notice. These days you can get a bet on some meetings, so I suppose the 'no betting' sign has gone, I don't know whether any clubs still have the 'no photography' notice either.
