  1. I know you meant it to be serious but thanks for the good laugh.
  2. FORMER Bradford title-winning team-mates Gary Havelock and Garry Stead will both be back on a bike at the Ben Fund Bonanza showpiece next month. The two riders who were part of the Dukes’ victorious Elite League squad of 1997 both suffered career-ending and life-changing injuries, but they plan to lap the East of England Arena circuit at Peterborough on March 18.Havelock, who lost the use of his left arm after a crash in 2012, said: “We’re going to adapt a bike so it will have a little lever under the handlebar, like a quad bike or a jet ski, which acts as a throttle when you press it with your thumb. “We’ll put that on the right hand side, and also the clutch lever which I will work with my fingers. We’ll have to find some ingenious way of involving lots of elastic bands and duct tape to fasten my left hand to the handlebars.“I don’t think I’ll be able to wave at the crowd! But it will be nice to get back on a bike, and good to do it for the Ben Fund which does so much for so many different riders.”Stead, meanwhile, was paralysed from the waist down in a crash over a decade ago. He said: “Once I’m away it needs to be right, I won’t know where my legs are. It is quite tricky to start with just to make sure everything’s right. It doesn’t need to be too tight on my body as well. It just takes time to do things. “I still have kevlars, I have the actual colours I finished with, I’ve got a suit that I never used, that goes back to 2005.“The Ben Fund Bonanza is a very, very worthwhile event, people put a lot of money in. It’s invaluable to the injured riders.”
  3. With more and more wind and wave power and the remote location of some of the current fossil fuel power stations, that is a changing picture. The concentration of internal combustion vehicle fumes in highly populated areas such as valley bottoms and town centres is a very big contributer to respiratery diseases and death rates. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/feb/04/car-fumes-air-pollution-ban-motorists
  4. I have seen photographs and videos of electric bikes, both here and in Germany, they would certainly solve many problems regarding noise and would be ideal for indoor meetings. When I've mentioned them on here in the past the idea was dismissed by those who claim the sound is too important but I think it would allow running race commentaries, which might actually add to the interest and excitement.
  5. Well he hasn't really put a foot wrong so far and does seem to care about the sport, that looks to me like a role model that some of our own would do well to follow.
  6. I thought it actually affected more, what about Tungate etc? The two names were prominent because they are British and this is supposed to be British Speedway (although you wouldn't think so looking at some of the Championship line-ups).
  7. He has family in England, so I think he still has some gear over here. He has been posting photo's of his practising in Australia and has certainly been hoping for a team slot.
  8. Maybe he's another of Lemmo's 'jobs for the boys' signings, like Sedgy was?
  9. I can still remember a seeing a rider with a helmet that covered his ears, the announcer made a point of telling you how it gave better protection to the skull, must've been in the very early 60s I think.
  10. Last season was such an inspiring new start, lots of good British stars and a young British rider who turned out to be one of the finds of the season. Now we have six foreigners! Made up of past their sell by date or the totally untried. I can understand the desire to create assets but this looks like a Berwick side.
  11. Lacking firepower and too many ifs and buts. If the untried riders prove to be sensational then who knows what might happen? Otherwise it looks like a Redcar team of old.
  12. Yes, I understood it, as anyone who knows me will crucify.
  13. Yes, I noticed your own side dropped him.
  14. He's been a big let down in the past and isn't exactly renown for his battling qualities. If he's there a lot wont be.
  15. And how many clubs would this affect? Even at Swindon they're building the houses before the new stadium, then again, are they ever going to build a new stadium?

  17. As most people either don't know of it's existence or don't care anyway, I don't think the 'family sport' tag of several decades ago still applies. I thought SKY Sport actually marketed it as raw and exciting (no brakes, no fear etc) until they realised that they were giving money to a dead beggar.
