Speedway Star Toothless Pussycat

I think they probably have to have a "don't bite the hand that feeds you" approach. It certainly pays to be on good terms with any potential sources of information. I'm enjoying my on line version to be honest. I think if it tried to become a scandal mag. Or something other than what it is, it would probably decline in it's appeal. It might be interesting to read Philip Rising's reaction. -
Elite League Draft Riders
foamfence replied to Daniel Smith's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I think if you just had one, they would be too far out of their depth. With four in a match there is chance for them to race each other as well as main body riders and not get overwhelmed. -
Elite League Draft Riders

Phil Morris was compiling the list, at the time, some riders were unable to commit because of work or studies, but they will go back on the list if their personal circumstances later allow. I would have thought that the 30 rider list is now complete, it didn't take very long to compile the original one. -
Would you really prefer it if he'd left things as they were? This is a win-win situation for both clubs. British Speedway and a fair number of aspiring riders.

I think if we got rid of the current silencers and used something that allowed a wider and more controllable power band, riders would feel more confident, even on some of the more dubious tracks. The current silencers are responsible for many of the nasty injuries that have occurred over the last few years, there always were dodgy tracks but serious injuries were much less frequent pre the existing silencers.

Biggest Improver 2014

Or only. -
Foamfence will be the one foaming with disappointment come october. I won't, because I really don't care. But the idea of joining a league, is to try and win it, or at least be competitive. Glasgow seem to have taken anyone who is available. Fair enough, you might have some promising lower order riders, but they won't win matches. The trouble starts when you look at the top of the shop. Optimists might well point to the potential, if all the oldies ride to their best, personally I doubt that they will. The above was the post. I don't care if I'm the one foaming come October. I don't see what that has to do with your previous post. I made no remarks about any club closing or anything to do with any club closing (I lost my own club Halifax, decades ago). Tomorrow I might say a team looks like being serious challengers or I might say another doesn't (they can't all win the league).
-
That remark was in reply to someone suggesting that I would be "fuming with disappointment by October". I don't really care if Tigers finish top, bottom, middle or whatever. Nothing like taking a remark out of context (or deliberately misunderstanding it) is there? I appreciate the problems that they've had but I still think the team is uninspiring. Am I not allowed to say that?
-
Personally, I would have ignored it, had I been a Tigers supporter. It's still a very uninspiring line-up to me.
-
Judging by the number of replies, it seems a lot of people care! Even you had to have a little go. It's just that I was astonished when I saw the Tigers line-up. When you look at most of the others, it doesn't look good. Fair enough if you're happy with it.

What a shyte team! Would you like the wooden spoon now, or would you prefer an end of season ceremony?
-
I think the team looks weaker than some of the previous line-ups. Time will tell.

I've enjoyed my online version so far and there have been plenty of current topics and announcements. I'd hate to see it go under, so I like to keep offering my support. I don't know if anything has changed with the history/nostalgia stuff but I'm finding it more absorbing than in previous versions.

Bt Minority Sports Person Of The Year
foamfence replied to A ORLOV's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I'm pleased Tai won it and hope he and Bomber finish in the top two positions in the 2014 GPs, but I think the very idea of a minority sports award is ridiculous, you might as well hand out trophies for entering an event. It's as daft as the black police officers association or these music awards that nobody can quite explain what the boundaries are. Sorry for putting a negative spin on it, I know how you like to dream up these obscure questions to start a thread, but to be honest I don't give a **** what awards he gets, as long as he enjoys what he does and is successful. -
Who cares about him? He had the chance to ride as a Brit but chose against it, so stuff him. Anyway it'll give him more time to devote to his off-track nocturnal habits.

Elite League Draft Riders

Is that feeling based on the fact that you don't like the rule? If one Brit raises his game because of this, then it HAS helped young Brits. The set-up as was, couldn't carry on anyway, so if this makes promoting more affordable AND helps some Brits. Then it's a good thing. I'm happy with it, you're obviously not (then I've yet to see anything that you are happy with), I'm happy to give it a go, you aren't (but have no option), that's an end to it.... Wait and see what happens (insert usual moan followed by "nothing" here). -
Elite League Draft Riders
foamfence replied to Daniel Smith's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
He's had his chance and hasn't made the expected progress. The draft MIGHT throw up a winner or two. The promoters DID agree to the draft (it was actually the idea of Chris Morton and others I believe)and see it as a long-term idea. -
Elite League Draft Riders
foamfence replied to Daniel Smith's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
He might well have been replaced by a foreigner under the previous set-up. The promoters/team managers had the choice and chose the riders that they did, over others on the list, there are more being added to the list should a change be required. More and more people (including Scott Nicholls and Tai Woffinden) have said it's the right thing to do. Whoever was on the list, there would have been grumblers. -
Elite League Draft Riders
foamfence replied to Daniel Smith's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
They haven't been forced out, they've had their chance, there are other British riders in the 1-5 of teams, who promoters and team managers think are a better prospect, there will be changes anyway as the season goes on, you don't often get the same seven right through a season. You get more fixtures though, and most season ticket prices are either frozen or reduced. -

The remark about Paul Starke was uncalled for, as I said "Berwick stuck by him". Crashes happen, are you blaming Tai for Gollobs injuries and others for all the other injuries that riders have had over the years? The other two riders WERE selected in preference to others and deserve their chance. Not everyone will turn into an international from the Draft, but if it brings on some of them to a higher level it will have been well worthwhile.
