Speedway Star Winter Reviews
Jonny the spud replied to moxey63's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
As a subscriber ( and probably will be again next year) the last 3 weeks issues have remained largely unread. I realise it's the closed season but after a cursory glance there doesn't seem to be anything that hasn't been seen on here. It does seem over the top to dedicate the front cover and 13 pages to Peter Craven, ( great though he was) is this what we have to look forward to for the next ten weeks ? -

Is it just me or will anyone seeing the last 3 weeks covers in the newsagents dismiss the magazine as some kind of vintage specialist publication as opposed to an exciting sport which is trying to encourage new younger fans ? -
How could you say that Ellis wasn't s 3 pointer at the start of the season. He hadn't even raced a speedway bike until the previous July.
-
What happens with all the dirt that gets thrown onto the speedway track ?
-
With changes afoot in the EL and whatever is happening behind the scenes as hinted on Facebook One wonders if this years riders are getting a tad nervous about finding team spots with the amount of time this appears to be taking.

I'm happy with the decision. It will mean a lot of personal investment and bank loans to further my sons career but if it helps him become a better rider and Britains speedway in years to come it'll be worth it .... Now can those sponsors who threw money at foreign journeymen be tempted to help out the Brits ? -

If it's based on 2014 rules then Adam would be ineligable to ride in either the NL or as an EL reserve... Hardly helping young British talent ? -

Just trying to work things out Only NL riders at reserve, is this based on 2013 results ? Adam Ellis isn't eligible to ride NL under 2014 rules, does this mean he can't be an EL reserve ? The statement released earlier says that riders can ride in all 3 leagues. Confused ! -

I just saw on twitter a 44 point limit, 2 brits per team and no black and white helmet tactical ride. I got all excited then realised it was someone's wish list. -
IMO all speedway riders should aspire to be professional . If you want to be an amateur, that's what grasstrack is for .
-
I think we all knew the outcome. Why didn't they just wait ?
-
After the cost of shortening and re-laying the track you'd still have to buy an air fence so I doubt that there would be any saving.
-
Just adding potentially more riders into the mix. No need to get the disapproving smileys out

What Can Be Done For Young British Riders.
Jonny the spud replied to Jonny the spud's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I wasn't talking about Brits going abroad more of how to get the sponsorship that is around channeled to young British riders as opposed to foreigners -
As has been pointed out on numerous threads a lot of money get thrown at foreign journeymen / flights etc. what can be done to channel some of this assistance to young riders with potential. We moan about a lack of Brits in the GP's etc but there seems no organised way of getting the money / support to the riders considered to be our future hopes. As a father of a young rider I know only too well the amount of money needed to keep top quality equipment competetive and the cost of travelling all over the country / Europe etc. how can we let the potential sponsors know that there's a whole load of talented young British riders who, given the support can be just as good as the foreigners and even go on to copy the achievements of Tai ?
-
If the islanders don't sort their air fence out there could be a whole team looking for new rides.
-
Well something would need to be sorted quite quickly so as to avoid leaving their riders in limbo and maybe missing out on other team places
-
i've raced the longtrack at Plattling in Germany a few times, 5 corners !!! quite tiring to say the least
-
Have we seen the last of the wightlink islanders ? The air fence issue may be the death knell for the club. What will happen to the riders either way, what do the fans want to see next year ?
