You had a choice... did not have to buy it. -
Nicki Pedersen. Mbe ?
TheReturn replied to Super Blue's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I agree. Gollob used to be this way, even after he was decked at Hackney. It was actually sad to see the 'fight' come out of Gollob in recent years, mainly since he got his title. To be fair, he had little chance, Zagar was up at him very quickly. It was the boot in the balls, and ride off that I found a tad naughty. -
I rarely buy a copy of the Star anymore seeing that I don't follow any specific team, but I did pick up a copy from my local Sainsbury's this week (how great it was to see it there actually, especially when Tunbridge Wells is not exactly near any track). This feedback is meant to be constructive rather than negative moaning for the sake of it, but on the pages about the SGP with the interesting interview with NP it had the race card for tonight, and the remaining SGP dates with winners, but what it did not have (unless it's hidden on another page somewhere) is the overall standings. As we now get to the business end of the season, that would be important to include during any SGP week with racecards. I know space is minimal in publications, but I thought the overall standings for the SGP is perhaps important to see from this point on in the season so when I am completing the racecard later I can see whose where in the standings (I tend to mute Pratson).

I'd be tempted to agree, provided Forest or County are not playing on Wednesday's on a regular basis (hypothetical of course at the point).

Bomber And His Starting
TheReturn replied to Mark's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
My god.... the guy brings in someone to help him in Morris, Harris is trying to improve and learn and people are still critical. Strikes me if Harris was to win a couple of GPs and finish in the top eight this season people will still slag him off. -
Ditto on all of this. Middlo really did not appear suitable, perhaps having Poole superstars spoiled him and his ability to motivate a group of riders who need that to make up for lack of skill. Rosco great on TV but I am not convinced how good manager he is to be honest, I would have gone with Morris too, but will support Rosco.

£17 is fine. I don't buy into this 15 races, = 15 minutes of action which is often trotted out. It's a good 90-120 minutes evening out, a package, where people can watch the racing, have a drink and meet friends, and compared to other sports, £17 is a steal. 90 minutes of football = more than £17 at most Championship clubs these days, let alone Premiership. How much for a 20/20 cricket? How much for an evening at the darts? £17 is a good price for an evening out. However, I would add to that it would be nice for promoters to promote a little, and ensure the evening involves other entertainment in-between racing. Don't ask me what, but there must be things promoters can explore and look at to ensure that between races there is other entertainment. I would also like to see clubs ensure family tickets are available and affordable, i.e £40 for family of two adults and three kids.

Any speedway coverage is positive. However, I do hope the BSPA leave themselves some wiggle room in any agreed deal so they can look for more lucrative and better deals with other broadcasters.

Only an idiot would buy Sky just for speedway. Plus, I doubt sky are losing any sleep because a few hundred speedway fans are dropping it.

Well said... Good luck to Chris and Tai next season. -
No Chris Holder In 2014 In British League.
TheReturn replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Hang on.... British Speedway could offer Holder a race berth should he choose to want it, he is the one that chose to opt-out. His choice, wish him well and all that, but his choice. -
But is it not fact that Howarth was sold to another club. That other club agreed the deal with Coventry? If that is the fact, I don't see why Poole are crying?

British Speedway Promoters Meeting
TheReturn replied to dantodan's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
YES YES YES YES YES But that must include an overall of this existing rubbish speedway websites. Speedway is so easy to market with some great action images an video montages, it could look exciting, but right now the websites are bland and let the sport down. Social media is the way to go, but it is a full time job so £300 a week is a bargain for the right skilled individual, but it also needs one thing, it needs the top brass feeding down information all the time so that person can interact daily with the public. -
Plus it's the weekend. Wait until Monday FFS.

Elite League Draft Riders
TheReturn replied to Daniel Smith's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Just seen the announcement on the BSPA site. Whilst I am not sure NL riders in the EL is the best way forward, the way Phil Morris seems to have put this together seems unusually logical for a BSPA initiative. So kudos to all involved, I hope that the NL riders do now benefit from this. If this is all about development of young riders from the NL to top flight racing, what would be helpful is if there is some financial assistance from the BSPA to help these riders get the best equipment and mechanics to help them compete so there are no barriers preventing talent rising to the top. -
Bbc Sports Personality Of The Year
TheReturn replied to Grand Central's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Just read the BSPA statement on the website. Pointless complaining, unless it ensures Tai gets a decent 30 second slot during the programme (which I always said was the best we could hope for). A question I would ask the BSPA though is what have they done to involve the BBC in recent years? For example, did they buy a box at Cardiff and invite BBC Sports editors to be their guests? Did they send a press pack all about Tai after he became World Champion? Did they offer to help the BBC to arrange for Tai to take his bike into the SPOTY studio for a feature? Lots of proactive ways to get the media involved, but call me a cynic, I am guessing none of those were done. If the answer to those is a yes, then fair enough for them to be peeved. -
No Chris Holder In 2014 In British League.

True but we cant run our league around one or two riders who no longer want to do a full season in the UK. He will be back when someone is injured I assume. -
British Speedway Promoters Meeting
TheReturn replied to dantodan's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Exactly Vince. Why put out a press release Sunday with only HALF the information. It's amateurish and therefore YOU should not blame people on here for getting facts wrong based on half a story on Sunday night. BSPA should have had a full press release with all the new rules and facts Sunday or delayed announcement until one was ready. Whichever way you look at it, the BSPA have taken half a good idea and messed it up or messed the announcement up. If all the facts had been presented Sunday night then maybe people could have done that! -

So we are not allowed opinions? Just because the promoters put their money in and run the clubs does not, in all cases, mean they know what they're doing. -
British Speedway Promoters Meeting

It defies logic doesn't it! I think all British reserves is a great idea, but the way they are going about it defies logic. -
British Speedway Promoters Meeting
TheReturn replied to dantodan's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
When? Show me a post where you have said that. You are missing the main point of the argument Steve. People are not against Brits at reserve, people are against the fact it is in most cases non-competitive NL riders. The reserve berths should be for any young British rider, not just those in the NL. -
British Speedway Promoters Meeting
TheReturn replied to dantodan's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
The NL riders at reserve is totally clueless. Surely the correct route is NL to PL to EL? If they are good enough then fine, but that rule needs changing to two Under-23 British Riders (regardless of league). -
British Speedway Promoters Meeting
TheReturn replied to dantodan's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Whatever is announced tonight will not please everyone, but people need to realise, we can not plan our sport around what Sky want, we have done that for years and look where we are now. Today is hopefully the start of a long term recovery for speedway in the UK, where the sport is planned correctly with the best interests of British Speedway survival, above TV interests.
