  1. Many thanks Tigerowl. Bizarrely I spent many hours as a child (on a bicycle) going round the abandoned oval at Lundwood without knowing its history or that George raced there! I'm embarking on researching George's life and I'll post an update in the future. Thanks again...
  2. A big thanks to all who took the time to reply. I only recently found out about George and it's humbling to know I am from the same bloodline. I know he wasn't quite World Champion but from what I understand speedway was new to the UK in the late 1920's and he was one of the pioneers. Particular thanks to SHALEWAY69 (Tony) for sending me some great images which will very shortly be hanging on my staircase! If anyone should come across any memorabilia with George in I would appreciate it if you could keep me in mind. Kind regards...
  3. Can anyone shed any light on the career of my Great Uncle, George Wigfield!? I am led to believe he was the Captain of Nottingham speedway in the late 1920's and then raced for Sheffield in the early 1930's. I would love to find any images or programees with him in and I believe there was a cigarette card issued in 1930 with him on. Kind regards...
