Individual World Championship Qualification
Chris Brown replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in International World of Speedway
The Polish scores for riders who excelled by qualifying for the GP Final is interesting today From Italy Monberg - 1 pt from 3 rides Zagar - 1 pt from 3 rides Pavlic - 2 pts from 4 rides From Sweden Iversen - 2 pts from 4 rides Bjerre - 2 pts from 4 rides Ferjan - 2 pts from 3 rides Good job they all got it together in the individual meetings. I suspect their Polish clubs will be non too chuffed -
European Gp 2009

Having been to Millennium Magic RL at Cardiff both times it is a great weekend but hotels are a big issue for that as well as its over two days. Edinburgjh and Dublin are both keen to muscle in on that concept and Cardiff are certainly not cast iron certainties -
Couple of options I stayed in Hotel Euro last year which was full of speedway people around 5 minute walk from the town and not too far from the track but I would not want to walk from the town to the track. It has a night club across the road http://www.hoteleuro.cz/hotel-euro-pardubice-en.htm Other option is Pension ZelenZaba (Green Frog), its above a sports bar. We ate there last year and it looked good http://www.zelenazaba.cz/

Who's Going To Cardiff
Chris Brown replied to lady s's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I suggest Knox Road or Dumfries Place car parks. They are the ones I use when going down for the Wales footy. Both are fairly pricey (around £10 for the day) but in the centre and not far away -

Have to say that watching it back this morning I have to say that being as someone had to be excluded I thought the ref got it wrong and Lukas should have been excluded IMO. It was however a racing incident And for goodness sake let a meeting from years ago lie will you. I suspect Lukas isn't losing too much sleep about you having no respect for him Show me a rider who hasn't ben involved in an incident and I will show you a rider who isn't racing

Two I have stayed at Pension Klara in Holsevice, not far from Sparta and a straight 10 minute tram ride from Marketa and 5 mins from cnetral Prague. The owner Karol speaks perfect English http://www.prague-accommodation.cz/ Also stayed at Hotel Andel on the other side of town by the Staropramen brewery but also a straight tram ride http://www.hotelandel.com/ Pension Klara is really good value though

Gp Series 2009
Chris Brown replied to Blazeaway's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Personally I believe that those in the GP's that fail to make the Top 8 and do not enter the qualifiers should NOT qualify for consideration as a wild card. Nicholls always fails to enter and therefore IMO should not have the option of a wildcard. I would also advocate a limit of the number of times you can be awarded a wildcard for the series. I can see no reason why there should not be a limit of two in a riders career -

Slovenian Grand Prix
Chris Brown replied to driver17561's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Missed that one on the commentary, what was the background -
Yes it was Ali He did come back from the arm injury and rode for Oxford, Wimbledon and Milton Keynes but never really got back to where he looked like he going to get to. He then did have an industrial injury. Pretty sure he opened a clothes store with the proceeds which ultimately went bust. Hadn't seen him around speedway again until Waggy's reunion in 2006
-
From my early days I thought Alistair Stevens had the lot. He and Gary Havelock were very much the shining lights in the mid 80's. Sadly Ali broke his arm at Cowley in the Easter Triangle in 1986 (I think) and was never the same rider again. He could have gone on to be very special I still cannot help but wonder what would have happened to Lukas Dryml's career had he not had that hideous crash in Slovenia in the GP. He was right at the top of the GP series at the time and looking like a World Champion in waiting. There is no doubt in my mind that the accident stopped this becoming a reality

Big Meeting At Poole
Chris Brown replied to Saint Rob's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
£6 for a glossy book of adverts which probably costs £1.50, I'll leave that one alone for those who consider it good value. At the end of the day I hold an opinion but I am not paying to go so if many are happy to pay the proces being charged then that is a choice but there are a few here who would hold a completely different view if it were another track -

Chris Brown replied to Saint Rob's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
Wouldn't necessarily disagree Grachan but there is surely a question of who pays for this. I suspect in this case 100% of the cost goes to the punter. Not everything positive done by a club needs to lead to an increased price to the customer -
Big Meeting At Poole
Chris Brown replied to Saint Rob's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
Sorry Kev, its been the winter and I forget about the Poole thing !! Where I am struggling is why they have to outsource to BIC anyway. One reason and one reason only because BOTH parties can cream more money off the fans. I really don't accept the fact that other sports do it. That is not an excuse and not a reason to do it in our sport Lets hope its not the sign of things to come. We all expect to be ripped off by BSI or whatever they are called now but not be our clubs. Haven't been reading much here for a few weeks so missed the earlier debate about it, apologies for dragging up old ground -
Big Meeting At Poole
Chris Brown replied to Saint Rob's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
Talking to someone on Monday who called Poole to book a table in the restaurant for the meeting next week. Six of them wanted to book at the quoted price of £44. They were told that they would have to book through the Bournemouth International Centre. So they called the BIC and were told that indeed the tickets were £44 PLUS £4 PER TICKET booking fee PLUS a one off admin fee of £2.50 So on top of 6 tickets, £26.50 on rip off admin. Just what the hell does anybody do to justify £26.50 to put 6 tickets in a bleedin envelope ??? Now I have no idea who gets this money but that is truly awful The 6 of them decided on that basis not to bothwe with the meeting at all Fans being ripped off me thinks -
Big Meeting At Poole
Chris Brown replied to Saint Rob's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
Fair enough Rabbit. Of course 2nd half racing could always have been done at Poole. Shovvy used to argue that there was no time for youngsters to have races after the meeting. Glad to see that time has been found -
Big Meeting At Poole
Chris Brown replied to Saint Rob's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
Not sure what owning the stadium has to do with running a Conference Team Not sure that Oxford, Boston or Weymouth for three examples own the stadium but managed to run in the Conference League As for Poole taking the Academy League seriously, yes they did, just a shame it has taken 10 years of the current promotion to finally get round to doing ANYTHING to promote up and coming British speedway riders. Lets hope they stick with it then -

Heard it all now. Low admission costs have held the sport back !! Blimey Steve, you have really lost your marbles now. Tell you what, Put it up to £30 a meeting for EL meetings at Poole and lets see how that pushes the sport forward
