  3. I agree with that for ALL riders. Scrap the nominations and make riders earn their place either by finishing in the top 8 (or 10) and then the other places go to the riders who battle through a long qualifying process Gimmee's should be eliminated immediately. There is NO reason why all the GP riders couldn't enter the qualifying process and if they fail on both counts then there should be no way back until the following year
  4. Yes, great idea, take money that could be best used on BRITISH youngsters and give to the foreign riders Why bother with these individual meetings, Ford has had a crap year and thinks he may as well put on a money spinning inidividual meeting and fleece all the mugs who can be bothered to go
  5. I am with Rob here. Crump was a petulant brat in his Oxford days but that was 10 years ago and he liek all of us is a lot older and wiser these days. Nobody will forget him slapping Todd but its in the past and his popularity is probably at an all time high down here You should know that being a local
  6. As the championship is decided over cumulative points over the 3 rounds, I am not sure that the run off is siignificant unless I guess two riders finish level after 3 rounds
  7. Was won by Lukas Dryml in a run off with Josef Franc. results from www.speedwaya-z.cz Next round of the 3 is in Pardubice on 11 Sept and the final round in Svitavy the following evening 1. 8. I guess the point being made is that the comment was not directed at Oliver Allen who under the current rules is fully entitled to a testimonial The question (which was raised regarding the Bjarne Pedersen debate) was about whether a rider should get a testimonial I have been with my employer for 28 years and after 25 years I was rewarded with a watch which probably cost £300. How does that reward after 25 years of service with a single employer relate to 10 years with a whole series of employers where a rider will probabaly maek a tidy 5 figure sum I am all for testimonials for riders as a help when maybe they have lost earnings or injuries sustained riding have hampered 'normal' life away from speedway but a testimonial just for being around for 10 years is not something I am in agreement with because riders earn well over that period of time Good luck to him with it though because this is NOT about Oliver Allen
  9. Exactly Well we all think ourselves lucky it is not on terrestrial TV because the fact it was cancelled would have meant the meeting would not have been shown the following day SKY messed up their entire Sunday schedule to show it and people complain because their SKY + didn't work as they wanted it to
  10. I fancy the Czechs would have been a lot more competitive in this round as opposed to Denmark whereas maybe the Slovenians it would make no difference for
  11. Thats is the beauty of the qualication system. Whoever does qualify will do so on merit and therefore good luck to them
  12. Because they are utterly clueless and seem incapable of doing anything to support a promoter who makes any effort to move the sport forward. Brilliant effort from Gary to put this meeting together and make it a talking point 3 months before it takes place. This is a chance for the people of Oxford, Reading and Cradley to show how much they are missing their speedway and get behind in the case of Reading and Oxford an initiative led by their fiercest rivals. It does seem astonishing that the promoter of Swindon is trying to do a favour for 3 of the UK's oldest and most successful clubs and a load of clueless no names are trying to make it as difficult as they can to make it work Trying to promote speedway..............they will never let it catch on
  13. Its a very nice city. Quite small but the town centre has plenty of architecture and decent shopping...............so I am told.
  14. have certainly stayed there and its good I am told the Labe is a bit naff to be honest although the riders have generally stayed there
  15. Pretty sure its as a pair Sandie We always try to Gary. We sponsored Steve Johnstons last year and are sponsoring Billy's and indeed Dean Barkers this weekend Always nice to help those who have entertained the Oxford public
  16. The Oxford Speedway supporter groups, Oxford Speedway Supporters Club (OSSC) and Save Oxford Speedway (SOS), have sponsored Billy Hamill's Farewell meeting. As part of the sponsorship we have received 2 VIP passes. These passes include entry, programme and access to the VIP area. Therefore the groups have decided to auction off the 2 tickets to the highest bidder. Meeting: Billy Hamill's Farewell Date: 22/03/2009 Venue: Monmore Green, Wolverhampton Time: 16:00 Bids can be made at the following link http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=200319603670
  17. The Oxford Speedway supporter groups, Oxford Speedway Supporters Club (OSSC) and Save Oxford Speedway (SOS), have sponsored The Ben Fund Bonanza. As part of the sponsorship each group have received 2 VIP passes. These passes include entry, programme, buffet and access to the VIP area. Therefore the groups have decided to auction off the 4 tickets to the highest bidder with whatever made going straight back to the Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund. Meeting: The Ben Fund Bonanza Date: 29/03/2009 Venue: Owlerton Stadium, Sheffield Time: 15:30 Bids can be made at the following link, the more gets raised the more goes back into the Ben Fund http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=200319590293
  18. Because the main beneficiaries from British Speedway are overseas riders and any additional maney funnelled into the sport would almost certainly go the same way. UK Lottery money is not for the benefit of overseas sportsman
  19. Can somebody put me in touch with the organisers as I would like to talk about heat sponsorship Cheers
  20. Clearly many go for the GP but if you want a trip to the Czech Republic, save your money and go over for the Golden Helmet weekend. The speedway will be infinately better and you get to see Prague and Pardubice which is also a decent city
  21. But in the scheme of things its not a lot which is why the footy, superleague, rugby union etc get the sorts of programmes that I suspect speedway can only dream of
  22. Bet they will be when it all goes belly up Geepers, those costs are simply not sustainable
  23. Lots of cost and very few viewers and therefore little advertising revenue Its costs a fortune to broadcast live and if there is no return then it will not happen Whatever you may think of cricket it pulls in the viewers and therefore the advertising revenue
