  1. isn't this supposed to be a Peterborough v Edinburgh thread?
  2. who's his spin doctor, Alastair friggin' Campbell? Don't think we'd have done any better with him... so eff him!
  3. We got rid of one Bjerre - and the sooner we dump this one the better imho. OF COURSE he could have got back.... IF he'd wanted to
  4. from the fishul: " Bjerre will attempt to make it back to the UK in time to line up for Panthers when they host Edinburgh on a spectacular Sunday..." Hmmm... what do they mean "attempt" ? There's plenty of flights available from northern Italy to the UK (especially Stansted) so unless he bags an injury there shouldn't be a problem.
  5. re. opposition fans: they're not always the best judges. I've seen many posts by people who clearly have no idea. Not only that, opposition fans often have their own agendas (a.k.a. a massive chip...). It just takes one numpty to write "Panthers crowd was about 150 last night..." and before you know it, it's taken as gospel on here Frost needed 2000+, whereas Horton is talking about needing about half that. I think we'd have a far better chance of getting it on Fridays. I totally agree with your point about lack of success being a crucial factor in Frost's era - and especially with the point about persevering with Bjerre. That was one of RF's (many?) big mistakes. GPWM RF often made comments about attendances not being enough, but I don't recall him ever making any distinctions between the crowds we were getting midweek and the crowds for the Friday meetings. He'd just say things like "we're not getting enough people in..." etc. Well, not until he started to talk about moving to Fridays as the regular race night. Then he'd say "hopefully that will enable more fans to come...." The only conclusion to be drawn is that he took stock of what had been happening - the stats - and decided Fridays were the better option. I found myself nodding in agreement all the way through your post.....
  6. Sorry, I disagree. I can't believe that anybody doesn't think that attendances on Fridays would be significantly better than Tuesdays. You added the rider (clause) about whether it would be enough to achieve the attendance that "seems to be required" - but the point is that there's far more chance of that happening on Fridays. I totally agree. exactly! Those crowds were easily 1000+ but Frost was talking from the standpoint of the prevailing finances, i.e. needing 2000 crowds
  7. yes of course, but to be fair I'm 99.9% certain that last time we had this at the EoES they were giving people refunds at the office upon request although saying that it was under the Frost regime... I understand the chip on your shoulder - I'd be the same (worse!) if it'd been Panthers who'd disappeared - but I don't think all that many people are too bothered. I reckon the vast majority will be quite happy to retain the "rain-off" ticket and use it next time they go to a Panthers home meeting. I'm presuming the same still applies, i.e. it can be used at any forthcoming home meeting. And you can't say fairer than that. The only people it might pee off are Rockets fans who won't be coming to the EoES until the rearranged meeting - which could be ages, or maybe the won't be able to make it at all. I'd be surprised if there were more than a couple of dozen there - and most will be Rye House die-hards who will be at the rearranged EoES meeting. So, leaving aside the principle you're talking about, how many pee'd off people are we really talking about? If I'm right it means all the Panthers fans holding a "rain-off" ticket will be able to use it in the next couple of weeks. Ok I accept that they're sitting on a "dead" £15 (or whatever) but it's not like they've actually wasted the £15. Anyway ffs if somebody is so financially strapped that it makes a big problem for them then maybe they shouldn't be going to speedway in the first place. Having said that, I think Panthers management should have put something on their website letting people know what the situation is. Something like: Please retain your ticket which can be used for the rearranged meeting - date still to be arranged. or better still: Please retain your ticket which can be used at any forthcoming home meeting. Any Rye House fans who can't make it to the rearranged date should contact us for a refund Neil Watson is sure to follow this thread; he seems a fair & reasonable man and so I'm sure he'll do the right thing....
  8. oh but they do! Where shall I start? Cheques: it takes 3 days (or even a week!) to "clear" - when the funds become available to the payee - and that gives banks millions of our money every day to play with.... interest-free! debit cards transactions: let's say you use your card to pay me £99; the £99 funds get "earmarked" or allocated out of your account - which means you no longer have access to that £99. But when do I get access to "my" £99 in my account? Answer: 2 or 3 days later. Again the banks get to play with millions of our money every day - interest free! They're very clever people, bankers.... always have been, right back to biblical days cashflow! I'm not offering it as an excuse - it's not! - merely an observation.
  9. Yes, exactly the thoughts that went through my head as I was reading this thread..... I suspect NW is being a tad disingenuous. No, we wouldn't just pick Tuesdays simply to fit Fisher into the team. But it's not just a rider is it? MH - and there must be others - can't be at Brandon AND at Alwalton on Friday evenings. We can argue the toss with NW all day about the thinking behind the decision to go with Tuesdays for this season. Hindsight - such a wonderful thing! - tells us for sure that's it's not been the success they, rightly or wrongly, hoped it'd be. So let's focus on FRIDAYS. Slot in as many as possible this season and next season (please God there IS a next season!) make it our regular night like Frosty promised last year. It can't possible have an adverse effect on crowd figures and all logic says it will only increase them. By how much remains to be seen, but let's give it a proper try ffs! Like Andrew Parker says, there must be plenty of Fridays available at the EoES even if not every single Friday. Plus there's 2 or 3 Bank Holidays. And we don't have to worry about clashes with Saturday GPs any more.
  10. unless my memory is paying tricks, the last time this happened Panthers were doing refunds at the office upon request. In any case tickets will be vailid for the rearranged meeting. If you can't make it next time I'd like to think you'd get a refund if you contact the club. Maybe Neil Watson will confirm (or otherwise) on here..... I'm only 5-10 mins mins drive away (Yaxley, PE7). I'd nipped home and got back to the EoES just as cars started to stream out. Gutted obviously - but I feel for you making a long wasted journey. Anyway, yeah always come in via Alwalton village, and back to the A1 the same way. Hope you can make the rearranged meeting.
  11. good news! it's on http://www.peterboroughpanthers.co/news.php?extend.2209.2
  12. There were only a handful of people there an hour ago when we were down at Ferry Meadows - and that was just before the rains came. There's probably even less since it started piddling down. But I agree that they should do more about promoting/advertising Panthers speedway. And yes it might be worth trying something at Ferry Meadows when it's busy, like at weekends. Maybe a van, a stand, a bike, a rider....and even a large video screen to show newbies what it's all about.
  13. Hmmm.... I just left Ferry Meadows and drove past the EoES entrance and it's deffo raining. Not enough to flood the track - so I'm still optimistic
  14. That's good to hear - maybe it's blowing the other way (?). Btw I'm only 1/2 mile from Showground entrance - funny old weather!
  15. I'm close to the EoES (Ferry Meadows) ... Heavy rain at the mo , grey sky everywhere, looks set in - but you never know with our poxy weather, it could brighten up in an hour or so. Fingers crossed - but it's not looking good right now Update: rain almost stopped now, and a tiny hint of getting brighter. The rain we've had just now shouldn't - surely? - be bad enough to make the track unfit. Let's hope not!
  16. I'm sure these two forumites (see above) are not "losers", and I'm equally sure that they are not sad, bitter, spiteful kn*bs who can't resist gloating and making cheap pops at Panthers - despite the impression given by their posts here. And I'm sure maneacat's comment telling one of them to "grow up" wasn't justified for the simple reason that they are clearly grown men despite the juvenile and rather pathetic tone of those posts.
  17. No, it's not here where he wants to get a reaction; it's in his mailbag/mailbox. It's just a numbers game. Bottom line, it's all about circulation & advertising revenue. So never reply to him, or to his office, in response to the sh*t he spouts - because that really would be playing into his hands.
  18. Exactly! Small-time local hack - and a pi55poor one at that. Always has been a complete and utter **** ! He was the same on the cricket field too If enough people wrote in to the manangement and threatened to stop using their rag for advertising he'd soon shut his gob about Panthers. Problem is, far too many people take the bait and send in emails to argue the toss about the cr@p he writes. And that serves only to put a smug smile on his boat-race because that's exactly what his boss wants. Oh and by the way, he was always a Dirty Lids fan... and these days he's always slagging them off. That tells us all we need to know about him And if you're reading this Swann; you WERE Lids and you're STILL Lids - you'll never shake that off no matter what you write in your pi55poor column GPWM
  19. Same thing on WizzAir. I use them frequently, and I always book an "extra-legroom" seat, which means I get to sit next to an emergency exit above the wings. And every time I get a gorgeous trolley-dolly lean across to explain it all in a very sexy accent By the way, if anybody's thinking about using Wizzair, I gotta say I'm quite happy with them. But always ALWAYS pay the extra 3 euros for PRIORITY BOARDING. Otherwise you'll end up in a mad scrum with a load of.... well, you get the idea .
  20. Posh? Posh? Just fyi: "The Posh" is PUFC and only PUFC. It's not a nickname for all things related to Peterborough per-se.
