Peterborough Panthers 2016
PE7Panther replied to mudflaps's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Aha.... I see where that £1000 comes from now But it's still cheaper than paying at the gate at every meeting. I just meant that it's way less than the £1000 that was being talked about. Of course heat sponsorships at £200 a pop, and so on, are invaluable to Panthers. When Panthers were in dire straits last year it was a case of every £1 that fans could chip in was important. And it's still the case. I'm happy to bow to your greater knowledge about the status of the heat & airbag sponsors. So it's mostly 'ordinary' fans, is it? You could be right. Anyway, the point I was trying to make is that sponsorship is an allowable expense against tax where businesses are involved - and most sponsorship income comes from businesses rather than from valliant efforts by ordinary fans. Some people still seem to be under the impression that Rick Frost was dipping his hands in his pockets and just using his own money to finance Panthers -

erm..... the one you refer to when you wrote "Might be a dump to you - it is home to us" quite right maneacat. Scotsman actually said that it [Edinburgh] "Might be a dump to you - it is home to us." So it's hardly surprising that many on here took that at face value. Hence it's his "home track" in the sense that NewEraPanthers meant. And, as you say, there wasn't any need to go into that convoluted spiel; all it really needed was for scotsman to just say "I don't know anything about prices of Monarchs STs" But then again, my mate - who is a cynical old devil - reckons it was a well-crafted post and that somebody was bound to take the bait, thus creating an opening for the poster's munificence to be listed (in full detail, natch) under cover of mild protest and feigned innocence. Ego massaged; job done. (My mate might well say that - but I, of course, couldn't possibly comment ) Yeah, quite so. But I think we're in danger of things getting a bit muddled here. For a start, sponsoring a heat cost about £200 if memory serves . Hardly a fortune, but in any case for most sponsors it's an allowable business expense: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/bimmanual/bim42555.htm "BIM42555 - Specific deductions: advertising expenses: sponsorship Sponsorship is a way for businesses to obtain the commercial benefit of bringing their name, products or services to public attention." So it ain't like you or me sticking our hands into our pockets and shelling out our hard-earned. And who said anything about a family having to find £1000? Where did that figure come from anyway? Yeah, let's get back On Topic. Any thoughts/clues about the final two riders? As things stand I'm hoping it will include one of Anders Thomsen/K.Bjerre. But however it pans out I'm confident Ged will get us a decent line-up. -

Nobody has to buy a ST if they don't want to. I think many, or even most, Panthers fans who buy a ST do it more out of a desire to help the club rather than for any financial benefit for themselves. So even if the discount is quite small, it hardly matters. And if it's cheaper at Lakeside in the EL, so what? I, for one, would gladly pay double to watch speedway at the EoES rather than at Lakeside Arena even if it is in the (so called) EL. IMHO people who whinge about ST prices need to think back to when we were all worried sick that Panthers might close down. Some even moan that the car-park is included but two of them travel in the came car, so they cry that they're a quid down. Jeezus H.....!!! No they're not; they're still getting it cheaper than people who pay on the day. You're bang out of order! -

I've never been a huge fan of KBjerre - but in the PL he'd be one of the best, if not the best, No.1. That line-up would make Panthers one of the favourites, for sure. -

Sundstrom is a good shout. It seems like the Poland/Sunday thing is an issue with most of the names that keep cropping up. But are we going to be having any/many Sunday meetings? Tbh I can't remember if it was mentioned at the recent fans forum. -

I wouldn't argue with that - but any suggestions for the No.1 ? -

If you're right - which you may well be - I'm as curious as you about who would/could fit. All the convoluted rules make my head spin tbh, not to mention the potential fixtures clashes with the EL and with Poland etc. Is Schlein definitely a no-go? Porsing maybe? Or Thorssell? What about Buz (wishful thinking!). Tungate gets regular mentions too, but is he genuinely No.1 quality? Hey, is Charlie Zabik back riding again...? (* just joshing, before anybody jumps down my throat!) -
you're a bit out of date! FYI, kids under 16 need their own 'child passport' these days, and have done for ages. After 16 they need a full 'adult passport' So RL travels on his own passport. (it's probably kept in his mam's handbag though!)

Leaving aside the question of averages - simply because we don't know who will fit whatever the limit is going to be - I'd like to see at least some of this year's riders kept on: Ostergaard: Yes. Ulrich must surely be nailed on Simon Lambert: Yes. I hope he stays, but his average now is a bit awkward Barker: Yes. We need riders who can win heats home & away. Toft: Maybe. Based on his form earlier on it'd be a big Yes. But he dropped off a bit, so only a Maybe. Konopka: Maybe. A 3 pointer is needed and unlikely to find anybody much better (?) Thomsen: Yes. A no-brainer, but seems unlikely. Grondal: Yes. Another cert, surely. One thing I really can say with absolute certainty about team-building: I've got a lot more confidence these days with Ged in charge. -
Whoever picked up the tab it was at the Panthers end. And that was entirely due to Sheffield trying to be tricky. They still ended up with the same number of blank Thursdays at Owlerton that they would've had whether the meeting was run on the 17th or the 24th. Oh how it must stick in the craw because in the end they got outsmarted by Ged R.
-
Firstly, the Sheff v Panthers meeting is just ONE fixture, and Jeezus H.... it cannot fill in 3 or 4 of Sheff's Thursdays . So Sheff would be having some blank Thursdays, in one combination or another, whether it was run on the 17th OR the 24th. Can you really not grasp this? And now we hear that Sheff have cancelled next week's meeting. If it's so flippin' important not to have any blank Thursdays they'd have had contingency plans in place and would be arranging another invitation meeting to ensure that it's not another blank one. Secondly, you use the word 'unavailable' as though the only definition is "riding elsewhere at the same time". That's not the case and never has been. You can twist it all you like, but the fact is that the 3 Panthers riders were unavailable when Sheff unilaterally picked the 17th. Sheff knew that and it's why they did it. It's also why Panthers weren't consulted, as they should have been, if only out of common courtesy. Ged rightly objected because in the normal PL season an away team has to be offered 3 dates, and it's only at the 3rd one that they have to accept it. He also felt that as Panthers finished above Sheff they should have first dibs. But, although there was some sympathy for Ged's case, he was told that there isn't a rule in place covering either of those two issues (you really couldn't make it up! ) and so he hit a brick wall. He was forced to accept the 17th, so he twisted the arms of the 3 riders and plans were rearranged - no doubt at considerable cost at the Panthers end. That gets conveniently overlooked, of course. Anyway, it all backfired on the Sheff management, and it serves them right.
-
Exactly. And it's funny how Sheffield have just cancelled the planned individual meeting for next Thursday. I thought they were saying how imperative it is not to have any blank Thursdays. And it's a pretty lame reason they're giving. How many Sheff fans are actually going to travel to Redcar anyway? It wouldn't even fill a taxi!

Hmmm.... great if those figs are correct. But past experience tell us that there'd be a new-fangled rule, or an old one twisted, to block Panthers using them yeah but it's vital to get at least one good reserve. -
Where's your evidence that he was never going to ride? Ged announced that all three were in the team after all, and then Thomsen went sick - WITH a doctor's certificate. So no rules broken and Panthers were entitled to use a guest. You ask "why is that any concern of mine?" Exactly! The whole tone of your posts gives the game away; whoever your own fav team is, you're clearly miffed that Panthers won. Anyway, what if Ged did out-smart Sheffield? I'm not saying that's the case, but if he did then good for him - and it serves them right!

Newcastle Announcement 27 September
PE7Panther replied to Terrace Grumbler's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
FYI, it's got nothing to do with Peterborough (Panthers). The dates when speedway can be run at the EoES is all down to the Showground management. -
What stroke are you on about? Don't you think we'd prefer Thomsen to ride and not have to bring in a guest? If it had been the guest who had bagged 18 points I could understand it, but he got no more than, and probably less than, Thomsen would have got. At best, it's muddled thinking; at worst, it's just lashing out and having a pop at Panthers because Sheffield lost so embarrassingly.

At first glance it looks good..... until you realise that the reserves are weak. And it's hard to get over the dislike of having KB back in the team - although he'd probably be the best No.1 in the PL Maybe we can get Schlein in - although the BSPA will probably find a way to block it again.
