Panthers not on a promise: Peterborough Panthers team boss Jan Staechmann has refuted claims from rider Richard Lawson that he was ‘promised’ a place in the city team for 2013. Lawson launched a scathing attack on Panthers yesterday, saying he felt ‘let down’ after the assurance of a team spot for the third successive season failed to materialise. Staechmann is adamant that was not the case but did admit that the man who rides for Workington in the Premier League featured prominently in Peterborough’s plans. That was until a recent change of direction with Panthers now intending to track a team made up of full-time Elite League riders. Staechmann said: “We cannot and have not promised any rider a place in our team, but it is very true that Richard figured in our plans. “I have stayed in touch with him throughout the winter and let him know that we couldn’t include him as soon as we settled on which direction to go in. “I have been on the other side of the coin as a rider and know how he feels, but these things happen in speedway. “When it became possible for us to go with a team made up entirely of full-time Elite League riders, we opted to take that route. “We encountered many problems last season with injuries and availabilities in doubling-up positions and we didn’t want to be left vulnerable in that way again. Lawson also claimed he turned down an offer from another Elite League club, thought to be Swindon, as he expected to return to Peterborough.

Agreed. I thought Buczkowski was odds on for a good season next year - shame it won't be with the Panthers by the sounds of it!

King's Lynn Stars 2013
TesarRacing replied to Daniel Smith's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I don't remember him ever joining Peterborough! -
Precisely.
-
I agree that side will probably struggle to make the play-offs unless changes are made mid-season but I would be happy to pay my £17 to watch. I still don't think it will be the eventual team that starts in March.
-
Yes, would be very happy with that team. Not sure it is what will be announced though.
-
Yes they do.
-
Would have liked to see Buczkowski back but MJJ is missing too often for me.
-
So Jason Doyle joins Swindon then in the Janowski deal.

Leicester Lions 2013
TesarRacing replied to Honey Monster's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I wouldn't let the idiots get to you Glyn - don't let them have the satisfaction! I have just put a genuine question about Chris Holder on the Speedway Discussions sub-forum and it didn't take long to get a childish reply. I do wonder sometimes..... -
Oh come on now, it's obvious, he is a teacher and just works at Tesco in the evenings!!

Sources is spelt incorrectly!!

22 November: Peterborough Panthers co-owner Julie Mahoney has admitted the club’s team-building plans for next year have been affected by the introduction of a new ruling. Mahoney, who represented the club along with partner and fellow owner Rick Frost at the British Speedway Promoters’ Association (BSPA) annual meeting from last Friday to Sunday, confirmed the club have been forced into a change of approach. That is due to top-flight clubs now only being able to track two who finished in the top 20 places in the final Elite League averages last season. Panthers are understood to have been keen to use three riders from the leading bunch but must now re-assess their options. Mahoney told the Peterborough Telegraph: “There were a few disagreements at the annual meeting with some things going the way we’d hoped and some not, but overall we’re fairly satisfied with the outcome. “The new rule regarding the use of only two riders who finished in the top 20 of the final 2012 green-sheet averages was unexpected. “It has forced us to go in a different direction with our 2013 team than we’d hoped. “However, we understand the reasons why this rule was introduced and we’re currently working hard on putting a competitive team together now that the rules for 2013 have been decided.” Panthers have already confirmed the return of rising Swedish star Linus Sundstrom for a third successive season on a 7.87 average. That means they can now hire only one more top with club assets Kenneth Bjerre, Niels Kristian Iversen and Hans Andersen all thought to be under consideration. Andersen is also sure to be wanted by Swindon after leading the Robins to title glory last season. Sources in the Midlands have suggested that leading British rider Chris Harris of Coventry was a Panthers target until the new ruling was introduced at the annual meeting.
