  1. I have been going to speedway since 1972 when I had my first motorcycle and I must say I enjoy my speedway now more than I did back in the seventies. I think the racing was probably better then but I do like a lot of the ways in which it has changed and been brought up to date. I know a lot of supporters won't agree with that statement but that is my personal view. I attend more meeting now than I did in the 70's and 80's - probably because I can afford to, especially meetings not involving my team. I think it is easy to be nostalgic about the sport - I don't think it was great as we remember and of course having forums these days to dissect every little issue in the sport, rule change, negative comments from supporters who don't go anymore tend to breed negativity. I personally thank all the riders and promoters in particular for keeping the sport going in very difficult economic circumstances.
  2. From Bees website: http://www.coventrybees.co/news.php?extend.2174
  3. He always liked a big challenge!! Best of luck Havvy!
  4. Completed. Good luck with the dissertation. Again, as previously stated it would be good to see a summary of the survey.
  5. I don't think many have changed their opinion of MF. I said in my previous post that this is the way that I would expect him to handle the situation but of course it has been handled in a way that is the best interests of Poole Speedway anyway - nothing wrong with that. But as SCB has already said, he will still manipulate rules etc to gain a advantage for Poole.
  6. Agreed, I fully applaud him for his comments. What ever you think of MF I would always expect him to say the right thing in these circumstances. Probably already has!
  7. I think all riders should be ordered to win every race, home or away!!!
  8. This is a very interesting thread hearing what the riders are up to now! I think Neville Tatum still rides - possibly Longtrack, don't know if anyone can confirm? I know he took an upright machine from TrackPlus last year and he rode at Herxheim in Germany I believe.
  9. Good photo DJ. Looks like Vic White at the back, 3rd from left.
  10. I know a song about that by the Housemartins! Are you ready? Are you ready?
  11. Thanks for that tech info. All sounds interesting!
  12. Kacper banking on Troy the translator: NEW signing Kacper Gomolski is hopeful Troy Batchelor’s future can be sorted soon, as he believes the Australian will play a vital role in helping him settle into life at Swindon. The young Pole will line up at reserve alongside Ashley Birks following aloan move from Peterborough, but Batchelor’s return to the Abbey Stadium has not been confirmed yet due to the ongoing dispute between the Robins and the Panthers. The 19-year-old doesn’t speak English, but with Batchelor fluent in Polish the youngster is keen to see the two clubs to come to an agreement which would allow the new Australian champion to return to Blunsdon. “I know Troy from when I rode at Peterborough and he is a good guy, and I hope it all can be sorted for the good of both clubs and that they can make a compromise,” Gomolski said through manager Krystian Plech. “He is very helpful, and he speaks good Polish because he has ridden there for a long time, and he is good in the paddock which is very important too. I am not sure what is going on because I am in Poland, but I hope the two clubs can make a compromise which will see Troy ride for Swindon. “But it is important as a speedway rider to focus on yourself even if it is a team sport, because it really matters to make sure you are in a good position.” Gomolski has spent the winter preparing himself for his first season with the Robins, and he continues to build his bikes to ensure he is ready to hit the ground running when the new campaign begins.
  13. That is why I made the comment RS. Difficult to ascertain how fast they were going but if the electric motor does not offer sufficient engine braking you wouldn't be able to slow the bike enough to then power round the corners. I don't know enough about electric motors to know whether they can be 'tuned' to increase or decrease engine braking effect. Interesting concept though - I wonder whether Egon is putting his own money into the project?
  14. NKI on asset system: King's Lynn Stars number one Niels-Kristian Iversen has called for a change to speedway's asset system. The 30-year-old has been cleared by the sport's governing body to join the Stars on loan, despite protestations by parent club Peterborough Panthers. "At the end of the day everybody rides where they want to ride," he told BBC Radio Norfolk. "It's down to the regulations and I think they will have to look into it in the future." Iversen has spent the last two seasons on loan at the Norfolk Arena, but the Panthers were refusing to allow the Dane a third spell because of what they perceived as an illegal approach from their Elite League rivals. But the British Speedway Promoters' Association have enabled Iversen to make the temporary move, a decision the Panthers launched a failed appeal against. "It shouldn't be that much of a problem," said Iversen. "It's like a storm in a glass of water. It creates so many problems. "It's good to have everything under control. It's been taking some time with the problems with Peterborough. "It's always annoying when things have to drag out like that but it's nice to have it done."
  15. Thanks for the link. Speedway bikes rely on engine braking - would this be a issue for electric powered speedway bikes?
  16. Maybe because teams who are only loaning riders are in a better position to offer a better package to the riders.
  17. You could always get those things you fasten to the forks that go in between the spokes - that sounds great! I had one of those on my push-bike when I was a kid! Not sure how you deal with the smell though!!
  18. Yep, I was tarred with that brush. The obsession from some is incredible!!!
  19. I very much doubt that. You can't just make a loss every year just to avoid tax. It leads to access to finance drying up and suppliers not supporting you. Worrying situation.
  20. Perhaps he has decided you cant beat 'em so you might as well join 'em!!
