That's why it very rarely works when you have owners coming in with money that they can easily afford to lose (allegedly). When I bought my business in 1988 I had no cash to purchase it and it was financed with venture capital money. And as such I worked my socks off to ensure it made a profit and stayed in business. Personally I think this has been the problem here, sadly.

Don't panic, don't panic!!!

I understand entirely the point you are making Philip, but it doesn't exactly paint a very attractive picture to any prospective purchaser of Peterborough Speedway. Hypothetical scenario... A new promoter/owner comes in to run the club and doesn't have to purchase/use the current riders/assets. Would the new owner be prepared to purchase assets/riders if in the event he decides to sell after a year, the riders are worthless? So the new owner would only be prepared to loan riders I would think, how is that going to work. You can't suddenly change a system that has been 'working' for many years without a lot of fallout. Perhaps Swindon would be happy to loan it's assets to the new owner?!!

The trouble is Blu, that is not the solution. You can't have teams running at a loss season after season whether there are the Mr Frost's around. At some point when you finally call it a day this is what happens as it is impossible to find a buyer. British Speedway has to find a way to get the sport back on its feet financially. Unfortunately, the decisions at the AGM have not addressed those issues in the slightest.

Bjerre wants back - but not with a pay-cut. Sounds like he won't be back then: http://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport/speedway/speedway-news/speedway-bjerre-wants-to-be-back-but-he-can-t-afford-to-take-a-pay-cut-1-5661468

...which is not really dependant on TV coverage of the sport, is it? -
Although I don't doubt you are correct regarding profits and needing more supporters - the last filed accounts are Feb 2012 so 2012 season financial results are in the public domain yet.

As has been suggested, start the season slightly later (mind you we have had really warm March's recently) with maybe a KO cup with PL involvement to hopefully bring in a 'Giant Killer' element. Ran at the start of the season might well bring greater interest as we will all have been starved of speedway for 5 months!! -

How will Poole supporters react to a Pirates team with no Holder, Ward etc if MF is correct?

Bomber was a GP rider and we all know about his starts. Each team having a top rider was how it used to be of course so no change there and everybody bemoans the 'good old days'. I just think the BSPA/Promoters/team owners are looking at it from the wrong angle. It appears that they are saying, this is the revenue we will get, how do we make the rider costs etc fit. Successful businesses thrive by being bold and maybe in this case turn it upside down and say, this is standard we want the EL to be, now how do we achieve that revenue. I know it isn't easy and it requires all promotions to be on board but I just see the sport continuing to spiral down. I am not a Poole apologist but this seems to be Poole's strategy and they appear to be quite successful. -
Where was 40 pt limit mentioned?

I was alluding to the fact that we need more top class riders not just the 3 in the example. From my point of view, I want to see the top riders racing in the UK. The skill these ride possess is amazing and that is what I want to see on our tracks - and they don't always make the gate you know!! -

HRF is correct though, the EL does need to keep the likes of Holder, Ward and Woffinden. It's how you manage to keep them in this league and stay solvent. -
The only thing I will say in the BSPA defence is that if you are losing money putting on meetings, why would you want to run more meetings at a bigger loss. If we don't get the financials right from the ground up we have no chance.
-
Not really a fan then Argo? I wasn't joking but you are probably right.

Great ideas on here today re KO Cup etc. I hope the BSPA are taking note!!

Positive indeed Blu.
