  1. I am with SCB on this debate I must admit. I am not a pensioner yet - quite! I too served an apprenticeship in 1972 and I think my earnings were £7 a week in the first year. My first house cost £12950 and I wanted to buy one in the next town which was £500 more and the bank would not loan me the extra amount for the mortgage. I have only only owned 2 houses and paid off the mortgage about 8 years ago so I am reasonably comfortably off.I also also started investing in a pension when I was in my 20's when most of my mates waited till they were in their 30's and even 40's. Moving houses too many times is one of the reasons pensioners still have mortgage debts and therefore have less disposable income IMHO. Therefore it is there lifestyle to a large degree that causes the problem. My parents were reasonably well off in retirement and my dad worked in a factory after leaving the RAF and my mum was a housewife so that is a bit of a sweeping statement. They never inherited property or born with the 'silver spoon'. My dad was very tight though and saved all through his working life then did a part-time job when he retired so as I said above, it is more lifestyle that dictates how well off you will be in retirement.
  2. Alan Trump got rightly booted out on his backside. What was Allen Trump 'convicted' for then?!
  3. Can a promoter be pushed/dismissed/got rid of from the BSPA? Are you a member by right if you are a promoter?
  4. Quite a few Coventry supporters live south of Coventry and I know it is only a matter of keeping on the A46/M69 but I doubt they would travel.
  5. Personally, I think the crowds are not as bad as we think. I blame the massive TV's we all have now which makes the crowds look sparse!! Try watching on a Nokia 3210!!
  6. Well, he is nowhere near as good as Garrity and Worrall you see!!
  7. Spot on. Freddie has always been a fair rider. Good hard racing but fair, that's what speedway always used to be about. Bit of elbows at the tapes now and that is classed as dirty riding!!
  8. Leicester Speedway has been rocked with the news that David Hemsley has resigned his position as senior promoter of the Lions. “I have decided to resign as the Promoter of Leicester and the British Speedway Promoters’ Association have been notified accordingly of my intention to stand down. There have been many issues associated with the decision which has not been taken lightly. It was a personal ambition of mine to bring speedway back to Leicester and with the help of many people we achieved what no-one else could. Whilst speedway still remains a passion I am letting go of the reins to give others the opportunity to take the club forward and build upon the foundations that have been set since we opened in 2011” explained David Hemsley. The decision has come following a run of issues over a number of years that has made the Lions Promoter feel his position is untenable, particularly as he is one of a new breed of speedway promoters who would wish to see change in both the British Speedway Promoters’ Association and the Speedway Control Bureau by bringing speedway more in-line with other sports governing bodies who he deals with through his company on a day to day basis. “No doubt at some point I will have the opportunity to present my case but in the meantime I am not going into the detail. My role as Managing Director and owner of Leicester Speedway does not change but what it does mean is that it alters my position as the senior promoter of Leicester Speedway. “My decision to stand down as the senior promoter will leave a vacant position to fill. That said I have offered up to the BSPA a proposal that my wife Yulia takes over this position until the end of the season which if accepted will keep the family connection in the business. With the vast promotional experience of Neil Machin to call upon and supported by David Darcy the club will continue to operate effectively as ever before and it will be business as usual.” Speedway returned to Leicester after an absence of twenty-eight years in 2011 at Beaumont Park and under Hemsley’s leadership the Lions entered the Premier League, spending three seasons in the middle tier of British Speedway during which time the team reached the play-offs once and were twice runners-up in the Premier League Fours’ Final. In 2014 the club gained membership to the Elite League and whilst they finished bottom of the table that first year an improvement in their away form last season resulted in a sixth place finish.
  9. On the contrary Steve, I would suggest your self-imposed exile from the forum does demonstrate a certain touchiness.
  10. Oh dear. Considering speedway is a 'results business', the Poole promotion are the best in the business, Matt Ford is ruthless but get's the job done, has no sympathy for other teams/promotions - there are lot of touchy Poole supporters around! If you are so proud of your team and it's success, why all the touchiness?
  11. Because that didn't fit with the (Pedersen) plan..............
  12. What you mean to say is that Watt had to go because Coventry were sniffing round Pedersen!
  13. Yep, we are all clueless on here - where your intellect is concerned!
  14. Just what I was thinking Blu, I wonder which team he supports..............
  15. Yes, sorry that was not very clear Semion. "The club must, by the 31st March following the date of inspection, demonstrate how this capacity can be achieved". So In PTFC case, by next March and this applies every year if you get promoted. For Conference National (Grade A) 4,000 rising to 5,000. In the case of segregation, you don't have to implement it, just have to take into account the requirements of segregation. In the case of my team, it was only used when Stockport County visited. It was a bit crazy really because at HT they allowed everyone to change ends!! Oh and by the way, the visiting team dressing room must have hot running water for showers and wash basins!!
  16. Nick, there is very specific criteria for grading of football grounds within the pyramid structure. Grade B (Conference North & South) must have security of tenure, a capacity of 3,000 with the ability to increase to 4,000 by end of March of 2016/2017 season, entrance by 6 turnstiles with the ability to segregate home and away supporters. There are many other criteria but this the main areas where the FA will insist and inspect on. I have been involved in this at my own local non-league club.
  17. Are you seriously saying that no-one had heard of Holder and Ward before they joined Poole?! I could list an even more impressive list at Coventry: Sayfutdinov, Pawlicki Bro's, Larsen Garrity etc etc.
  18. .....depends if you have edged your bets or not!!
  19. http://www.speedwaygp.com/news/article/4810/nki-to-avoid-british-burnout You have to admit Neil, that is quite an amusing reply!!
  20. NKI has confirmed he is not doing the full EL season due to potential burn-out.
  21. Well, I would suggest that is between the rider and Promotion in question then.
  22. I hope you can substantiate that claim Clive? I am surprised at you making a comment like this when we all know the sport is not in great shape. Comments like this are hardly going to help the sport climb out of the doldrums.
  23. SCB, what have you done now?! Starry will be running off to find his Speedway Star to try to find the biggest picture!!
  24. Let's hope the bank manager doesn't come on here then!!
