  1. Entertaining and hopefully successful. Looking forward to the season.
  2. Sounds rather like the Brexit discussions to me!!
  3. For me it's not about wanting to get away early or the length of the meeting, it's whether you have have been entertained over the period of the evening. You are quite right it is a night out but the customer has a right to be entertained for his hard earned money. I have been to 2.5 hours meetings where I have been bored but equally been to 3.5 hour meetings where there has been plenty going on like rider interviews, decent PA announcements and music etc and I have thoroughly enjoyed the evening. We have to accept that speedway is not like most sports involving a ball where it is wall to wall action, this is motorsport and will be periods of inactivity. I regularly go to MotoGP and BSB meetings for a whole day and its not boring because there is plenty going on so speedway should really have no problem keeping customers happy for 2 to 3 hours!
  4. Ah ok. Cheers Woz. Just Mick's printing company then I guess?
  5. Are City Gearboxes not involved anymore at NL level at Coventry?
  6. I can see exactly where you are coming from Ian and it did go through my mind too with his past connections to the club! I do fear for Peterborough this time round - the sport is getting harder and harder to run a team viably.
  7. Maybe he his a Poole speedway supporter without the blue tinted specs!
  8. But I wouldn't say World Superbikes is that much more known than speedway and it is also on BT Sport and Jonathon Rea came second last year?
  9. TZ250's and 350's. Got to ride an ex Steve Parrish RG500 at Mallory although not in a race but in the morning practice session and that was pretty amazing.
  10. I am an ex road-racer from the mid 70's to early 80's era and have been spectating at speedway meetings since 1973. Never tried speedway as not brave enough! Although having competed at national level racing I always preferred to watch speedway rather than GP/ MotoGP racing mainly for the team aspect of speedway racing. i think this holds a special dimension for the sport and although I enjoy individual meetings it is the team nature that holds my interest. Having said all that I now prefer to watch MotoGP rather than speedway on TV or live. I think MotoGP has come along way in respect of the way riders ride the bikes and the technology used. I went to Mugello this year with my wife and the atmosphere was electrifying and we have a fantastic weekend watching the qualifying and races. It is my opinion but speedway can't match that now. I raced in the era of Barry Sheene, Kenny Roberts, Phil Read and Ago but I reckon the Speedway World Finals and big meetings of that time were much more enjoyable to watch than the road race meetings.
  11. Interesting debate on the radio yesterday about trialing the new cricket 100 ball format to try to bring in new cricket fans. They are investing £200m a year! Aggers was on the radio and he thinks it wont bring in any new supporters and will probably alienate existing fans. Cricket obviously has a lot more money than speedway to invest but will be interesting to see if it works.
  12. And thereby lies the problem for the BSPA and Promoters.................
  13. That doesn't sound terribly positive to me Dave. Talks that end in chaos, solutions that you think are acceptable to most, solutions that need to be understood by the fans. It doesn't sound great. This isn't dig at you as i know you do a lot for the sport but I am not filled with confidence that a workable solution has been found. I have said this before, for me the only way forward is for the sport to go back to being semi-professional. A lot of people won't agree but I can't see how the decline can be reversed without the sport running at a level that families can find it affordable. It has always been a family sport and I have 3 generations in my family that still go and love it but I can afford it - most can't. It makes be very sad with the involvement I have had over the years and the enjoyment I have got from the sport but next season will be the most important for many years and I hope promotions, riders and fans can all find a way forward.
  14. I don't remember any Wolves fan getting over excited at their teams league position in April! Trolls - ha!
  15. Didn't the team manager have a bit of a sore throat too?!
  16. Great find Dukes! I love the name 'Skid' Skinner!!
  17. That doesn't sound very pleasant at all Mike, I hope the steroids clear it up.
