  1. 1. Leicester 2. Poole 3. Belle Vue 4. Wolves 5. Swindon 6. Kings Lynn 7. Somerset 8. Rye House Going for a shock with the perennial wooden spoonists, winning the league (don't think they will win the actual play offs though)
  2. I see very few occasions where it is the noise from the actual speedway racing that is being blamed for the problems!! It's just that the press call it "speedway stadium noise" because most of the press have actually heard of speedway as it gets far more publicity (TV) than stock cars but very few of the press would have a clue what the difference is between a Banger and a National Hot Rod so in their utter ignorance, generally just call all the noise from the stadiums, "speedway" noise. Mildenhall were their own worst enemies back then when it was run by the likes of Michael Coventry (RDC Promotions) as they seemed to think that the longer a meeting dragged out for, the better it was for everyone involved! and very rarely would a meeting be finished and all the noise stopped much before midnight. I've been watching Stock Cars for 45 years and stopped going to Mildenhall solely because of the promoters there and the length of time the meetings took. However, since Deane Wood (Spedeworth) got involved, then the running of the meetings has greatly sped up and really there is virtually no noise after 11pm on a Saturday night anymore.
  3. And I'm pretty sure that he does get the profits from the bars etc and also does rent the track out to TSR for the Stock Cars. TSR (the promoters) get the gate receipts, Chapman gets all the catering receipts. Dont know though how the running costs are split between the two.
  4. Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.
  5. NOPE!!!....sorry but the programmes we are talking about here called "Wheels" and presented by Ryder, Keys and Harrison were DEFINITELY not on in the 70's. Perhaps though there was another programme on Anglia TV that showed speedway in the 70's?
  6. It was called "Wheels" not "Match of the Week"!!!!!....that was the Anglia weekly football programme!. Milton Keynes has always featured prominently in the "About Anglia" regional news programme we get every day so i am sure they DO count it as being in the Anglia region
  7. You're right about 10.30 on a Thursday but the other presenter was Gerry Harrison, not Derek Thompson!!..There may have been lots of horsepower in evidence on the shows but none of them were actual horses!! The shows ran for a few years and were on in the late 80's/possibly early 90's and were most definitely video recordable as I recorded all the Stock Car ones (wasn't interested in the speedway ones back then!)
  8. Thanks for that, that does surprise me but I guess that was a few seasons ago when he wasn't as good as he is now. Seems like a bargain to me then, but I guess no one will pay enough to get the likes of him over here.
  9. Probably showing my ignorance of the averages here but surely Pawlicki wouldn't be available at an average of less than 8 would he?
  10. Well OK then, not many other tracks probably have the same excuse but I was basing my answer on my experiences at Lynn and also in reply to several people who were citing Lynn as an example of where the meetings are terribly dragged out. I still really can't see the benefits of purposly dragging out a meeting for any other reasons than what I have stated though but accept that this WON'T be the reason at SOME tracks.
  11. Utter rubbish. I know for a fact that at Lynn Chapman gets the receipts from the bars and snacks and so I would imagine that is the case at some other tracks too, so try again please and give me another reason if mine isn't relevant, why most meetings drag on for sooooooooooooooo long.
  12. Spot on with all of that. However, one small snag is that promoters in general, do NOT want the meetings over by 9pm. They want people to be standing around, waiting and slightly bored so they will then go and spend more money in the bars/snack bars etc whilst there is nothing going on and the evening is dragging. For a promoter, the longer they have the punters in the stadium, the more money they will take on the food/drink/souvenirs etc they dont want them in and out within 90 mins or so!! (which is still too long for it to last with only 15 mins of actual racing!)
  13. I think questions can easily be asked about both Hancocks and Pedersons picks but also I can understand why they have both been chosen BUT the Holder choice is a complete and utter farce and disgrace. It does lead to speculation that "sponsors" these days are now too powerful and speedway decisions are not being made for "speedway reasons" anymore Can see why Vaculik has been given a pick (although I think there are others who would have brought more to the GP series next season than him) but for Lebedev to not even be a reserve is another disgrace.
  14. Uhmmmm..... That's a very disturbing group of wild card picks if true. The pick of Holder is an embarrassment and reeks of 'outside pressures' and it looks like Hancocks cunning plan on not making any attempt to come back from an injury that normally keeps people out for just a few weeks, has worked too!! Always been good to see Niki in the GP's but I fear that he may will be a waste of a space too and that after having on paper, arguably the strongest ever GP line up at the start of this year, next year could be the complete opposite!
  15. Agree 100% and before his fan boys start spouting on about turning the volume down, I did and HAD to as he was like a demented banshee. There's enthusiasm and then there's completely unprofessional and his ridiculous monkey noises very much falls into the latter of those two things.
  16. Uhmm, come on then, apart from Speedway, list them please!!
  17. Let's be honest here, it's much more than likely that he will be the 2018 version of latter day "Harris" in the GP's and will be outclassed most of the time. He may make the top 10 in perhaps 2 or 3 of the GP's.
  18. What utter tripe of a meeting and another embarrassment once more for British speedway. The last race sums it all up really, red flag out when the fallen rider had already cleared the track!!..... At least it brought a (slightly) early ending to the shambles, I guess! BT must be really hoping that it pours next Monday and then they won't have to show the second leg farce as they will then no doubt find that that have "no space in their schedules" to cover the re-staging!!!
  19. Huge well done to Swindon who once again made a fool out of me with my prediction!! Thought it was all over after a few heats tonight but Wolves were let done badly by Harris and Swindon really dug deep to get the vital results. Great entertainment on TV for the neutrals amongst us too.
  20. All over, too many out of form riders for Swindon. Wolves will win by at least 14 overall.
  21. I thought that too and have seen people disqualified this year when they were on the track but not at the gate ready to go when the two mins were up, although that could well have been in one of the Euro Champs or Pairs rounds earlier this year. Perhaps the rules are different in the Premiership to the Continent? Surely someone in here must know for certain?
  22. Well that surprised me completely, a huge well done to Wolves for that. They may be a little disappointed in the end to only have a 4 point lead but I'm sure before the meeting started that wouldnt have even dreamt of that!
