Congratulations on another 1st class edition. As somebody who enjoyed watching speedway at Rye House, Arena Essex/Lakeside, Hackney, Crayford, Canterbury, Boston, Exeter, Weymouth, Stoke, Buxton, Coventry, Milton Keynes and Rayleigh You don't know what you have until its gone GO A BUY A COPY OF THE SPEEDWAY STAR TODAY !!
-
In 1986 Rye House had Kelvin Mullarkey and Rob Woofinden AS A PAIR. This wins this thread hands down

Thanks for your support Chris. You have always been direct but I have nearly always agreed with your comments You don't need to like Steve Ribbons and if you have past issues with him please park it Right now he is doing everything he can to try to save the day for Rye House, its gonna be hard but he has made real progress (it would be bad timing to list the details right now). Keep going Big Steve.

John, The lease says Motor Sports clearly, now councils have been known to ignore such clear directives hence why we have an ex planning officer in communication with the council.

You are correct Ben91 that is the hope however longshot it is.
-
Thanks Ben91 for supporting anyone trying to turn this thing around.

Mock away gentleman. Lets just layout a few facts, he jointly re-opened Rye House in 1999 and was not in charge when it shut, he re-opened Wimbledon on his own and was not in charge when it shut. He ultimately failed but spent a fortune of his own money to try to re-launch Norwich after 50 years. No doubt he has made mistakes and has faults but please feel free to list your achievements on behalf of the speedway world, its so easy just to smirk and snipe.

I genuinely wish you luck tonight. However on the off chance you don't win then please get behind anybody who is doing his damnest to salvage what is a very bleak situation and I can assure you he has made more progress than many of us thought he would make. Regarding crowd levels I was actually at a meeting with the BMR promoter at the time and he showed us his records from the first season in the Premiership and the highest crowd was 1,800 and nothing under four figures so 600 is easily attainable. This is still a long shot reviving the Rockets but there is a maybe a glimmer of hope.

You may not like or rate Steve (remember in 1999 he and another fan chose not to give in when the track was concreted over for stock cars) you might be right the odds are clearly in the hands of Musk and his bulldozers and there is only a slim chance of this working but Planning officers can be really awkward (one person closed down Romford and Mildenhall have in the past had problems) but right now I only see him trying to save the day so I will back him. in short its seems its his hope or no hope.
-
Of course you are welcome to your opinion but perhaps you would like to outline your plans on how to revive Rye House and then we can decide whether its better that "tom twits".
-
Len Silver said "there will always be Speedway at Rye House whilst he was alive"
-
I will have what ever your having I was concerned with your name KeirStarmerFan (the man who at the Director Of Public Prosecutions said "Jimmy Saville had no case to answer")

I urge people to rally and keep buying the Speedway Star it is an institution and if we lose it would be sadly missed. I remember a chap at Rye House, I think called Arthur bellowing "are you reading Speedway Mail" well nobody does now. On a practical level the history articles and brilliant. Remember you never knew what you had till its gone ...…. Rayleigh, Rye House 1 and Rye House 2.

It might be all over for Rye House

Please gentlemen stop bickering, this is a very serious time for the team and the sport. I hope people can focus on trying to avert this disaster. -

No proof either way if we being played. BMR have apparently gone and major plans for another building and a covered football training area. -
I have just heard some very sad news that the plans for the Rye House stadium does NOT include ANY speedway. Like at Coventry and Oxford I think it is important to contact the owners of the Kart Track to politely demonstrate that there is a big demand for Speedway and could they please reconsider their decision.

Unfortunately the road behind the back straight has been halfed (half owned by stadium and half by the caravan site) and this half is now used as the access road to the Karting ,in short I guess there is less room on the back straight unless the track is brought back in.

Many thanks City Rebel

City Rebel. Which facebook page?

Been past the stadium today. Whilst all locked up and only basic viewing from the canal toepath: The front car park is completely tiled and looks impressive (anyone remember the moon craters) No BMR sign as you enter the car park from the road The outside of the gym seems completed (where chip shop was) First and second bend terracing levelled with slight gradient, (should prove a spectator viewing point). Pits and Tempstand as before

Can we please have a reality check here. Do you think fans of Hackney, Cradley, Coventry, Reading, Workington etc etc would say "If you don't provide covered seating I am not going" I think they might say its a shame they haven't build facilities like Belle Vue but I HAVE MY TEAM BACK AND IM MIGHTY LUCKY. Please we are at a delicate stage and Im sure messages such as on here are read by interested parties, but if you feel so strongly about certain issues Im sure the landlord/Promotor will be very happy for you to put your hand in your own pocket and pay for them yourselves if you wont or cant, then please support those who are.
-
The smoke signals from official sources and other sources are really encouraging regarding Speedway returning to Hoddesdon. However I hope any future potential promoter does have some input into the new layout of the stadium for viewing spectators.

Who is your son? and we will root for him with such dedication.
