  1. As was the case last year, when Leon Flint was required to immediately leave Berwick Bullets when announced by Wolves. Hard luck on Fen Tigers, who had a good weekend to lift five league points, but now must seek to replace Jason -- but isn't this what the NDL's all about it?
  2. School holidays in God's Nation are from June 27 until Aug 16
  3. The best option for who? At the end of the day, this -- and every other meeting -- has to attract a paying turnstile attendance to pay its way, and hopefully turn a profit. If we start designing meetings to run for streaming, rather than the live audience, we wont last long as a public sporting entertaiment.
  4. He had four sessions, each running different lines and presumably with bike set up changing. By his last 'heat' he was looking extremely good - but as said above, you can never quite be sure when a rider is out on his own. Nice lad, too.....
  5. The NDL has an excellent rule -- "any eligible rider in the NDL can only guest twice at the same track during a season" That would be for home or away teams.
  6. Actually, the rule is clear enough. A missing NDL rider from 2-5 in the order should only be replaced by R/R. But the dispensation comes because Shanes is representing the ACU in an FIM competition (book actually says 'speedway' without mentioning long-tracking) allowing a choice between R/R and a guest.
  7. Well, as so many people claim "there are no riders available" -- fans of Berwick, Oxford and Birmingham need not react, their clubs have proved there are -- when I see the great Benny J still doing what he does best (nul points!) for Vargana this week, maybe some of the clubs who need riders should check him out? Can't agree he's "instantly forgettable" by the way. No-one at Shielfield will ever forget Benny!
  8. Vargarna's #7 might be a name for the future?
  9. Berwick's Greg Blair gets a run-out at Armadale on Friday, filling in for James Shanes....
  10. When will folk on here understand that Ty Proctor is injured, was replaced because of the damage to his neck? If he cant race for Berwick, why do they think he can race for their clubs?
  11. The league champions arrive at Shielfield on Saturday to challenge the league leaders. Jason Edwards has been in sparkling form of late, and will test the top-end Bullets to the full. James Shanes is off long-tracking, but the Bog Moggies have obtained a special dispensation to use Danny Phillips as a guest. GHT Bullets: 1 Kyle Bickley (capt), 2 Mason Watson, 3 Ace Pijper, 4 Greg Blair, 5 Luke Crang, 6 Kieran Douglas, 7 Ben Rathbone Manchett's Fen Tigers: 1 Jason Edwards (capt), 2 Sam Bebee, 3 Jack Kingston, 4 Alex Spooner, 5 Danny Phillips (guest), 6 Josh Warren, 7 Luke Muff. All Adults/Concessions/OAP £10, Accompanied juniors (12-15) £3, Accompanied children (under 12) £1 To encourage purchase of tickets online, the promotion are offering FREE ENTRY to all under-16s accompanying an adult who has bought their ticket online. Online tickets are the club's recommended way to enjoy speedway at Shielfield Park. It's quick and easy, you get your money straight back in the event of a cancellation and the administration is much less of a burden on an already hard-working and committed volunteer staff. Book at www.berwickspeedway.com/tickets The cash turnstiles will be open as usual, but any children entering at that point will require to be paid for. Weekend weather forecast looks promising, so another sunny Saturday looks likely -- bring it on!

  13. Aaron, who is at Berwick every week, retired last season with the club's blessing. Had there been a long-term injury to one of their higher-average riders, he might well have come back as an injury replacement (as he has done for Oxford) but the gaps Berwick had to fill are at reserve, his average is over 6. Money wouldn't have changed his average!
  14. Matey, I think Ian might just have taken you to the cleaners every bit as much, and much-more cleverly, than any rider! But I agree, any newbie owner HAS to employ an experienced speedway person to run his club.
  15. The last few pages have woken a few folk up! As I see it, to introduce Jonas Knudsen for the injured Ty Proctor, there had to be two changes. Bandits were over 42.5 in total points this month. Kyle Bickley was just the unlucky domino. Kyle has indeed suffered a sad lack of form at CL level recently, and a rest from CL pressures -- while still at Berwick, skippering the NDL-leading Bullets -- will hopefully recharge his confidence, bringing him back as the rider who just weeks ago was sailing past Craig Cook!. Both Greg Blair and Luke Crang are in their 'thirties, and both have already raced for the Bandits in the current campaign, taking the odd ride in matches they were #8. Nathan Stoneman has raced twice at Shielfield this season, beating Bickley, Blair, Crang and Watson in the process. Given the need to bring in a lower average to balance the new line-up, and the connection with Oxford, his signing makes reasonable sense. I agree that, of the current Bullets, I see Ace Pijper and Mason Watson as the improving youngsters who might be available for bigger things in the future -- but with Leon Flint as a shining example, to brand running an NDL squad as a "waste of time" is absolute nonsense. If you can produce one rider, maybe every two years, from NDL racing to progress up the sport for you, then the job's a winner.
  16. Apologies. Didnt realise they did it every week. Still over half the league don't stream, however.....
  17. Luke Killeen has got his UK passport (at last) and is making a Chargers' debut on Tuesday.
  18. Except Glagow, Berwick, Birmingham, Oxford, Newcastle and Poole.......?
  19. I think the TeamGB people are looking a bit higher than that. Brennan, yes. But the previous two Tests at Ashfield have had world class riders in the teams like Tai, Chris Holder, Magic, Lambert, Zmarzlik, Bewley, etc...... Don't think Danyon or Connor are quite up there yet. Still unsure of a starting time, I suspect.......
  20. In the Test v Poland last autumn, Bomber was our match-winner!
  21. Didnt Glasgow Tigers have a couple of meetings at Hampden Park with two Templetons, two McMillans and two Beatons (plus Charlie Monk) in their team? However, the match you really want is Barrow (two Owens, two Sheldricks) against Berwick (two Templetons) on June 25th, 1974. But no twins, l agree You're welcome.
  22. It's Scunthope's part of the world that had Bell End Speedway.........
