Why? Let's see...... He started speedway in Oz in 2022. Admittedly a late beginner, but that's when it was. In 2023 he came to the UK, a very raw rookie, raced NJL for Edinburgh and averaged 4.50. In 2024 he continued at Armadale, improving his average to 7.76. That's a big jump! With bonus points, this is a better CMA than Ace Pijper, Max Perry, Luke Harrison, Freddy Hodder or the much-vaunted Vinnie Foord. All of whom have been racing speedway bikes for a lot longer than Dayle Wood. Were he younger, people would be praising his progress, signalling him as one of the best 2-pointers available to Championship clubs. And maybe, with Berwick, he will be.........

That's rubbish. If the Poole reserve rides well enough to outscore (say) Tobias Thomsen -- by no means an impossible target -- he would be retained.

Nathan's the lad who, at the end of 2023, chose not to travel up to Armadale for the final NDL match of the year "because it was raining, and might not be on". BV Colts had to run without him, lost the match and -- quite possibly -- the league. Doesnt seem to be a willing traveller!

I cant imagine any "assets" of the Derwent Park promotion were moved on to the Northside revival. Any old assets would have reverted to the BSPL after 2018.

Traditionally, lower-league competition -- which was close to amateur in some cases (Linlithgow, Buxton, etc) -- saw the teams travelling together, often in just a couple of vans. Not so expensive, and great for team bonding, too.

Interesting stories from Poland today, suggesting U-24 League could be axed over financial worries. Quite apart from the inference that Polish speedway isn't rock-solid and overflowing with dough, this could see a number of young riders, otherwise thought to be unavailable to Championship clubs, looking for a league to race in at short notice...

Next season will have an extra blank Saturday inserted for the Belle Vue GP. I have always believed that, especially with a lighter fixture-list, clubs should consider starting quite a bit later, mid- to late-April at the earliest, and thus offer their prospective patrons a greater continuity of fixtures over the warmer, lighter months. Start at Easter (April 19 is the Saturday) and even if last year's clean sheet with the weather was to be repeated (hah!) the bare minimum BSN , KO Cup and Championship fixtures -- having allowed for two GPs and the British Final to be mandatory blank Saturdays -- would take things through to the end of July. With the possibility of rearranged dates for rained-off meetings, plus the pleasant thought of progress in a couple of the competitions, that's the season running on to the end of August at least.............
