  1. Early-bird e-tickets now on sale at discounted prices -- save £2 by buying online in advance from: https://www.berwickspeedway.com/tickets/ Teams line up as: Berwick FTS Bandits (powered by Keenwood Karpets)1 Thomas Jørgensen 9.532 Jonas Knudsen 5.003 Leon Flint 7.00 Captain4 Jye Etheridge 6.295 Rory Schlein 8.186 Connor Coles 2.007 Nathan Stoneman 2.00 Edinburgh Stellar Monarchs1. Josh Pickering (captain) 8.922. Lasse Fredriksen 4.003. Kye Thomson 6.604. Paco Castagna 4.935. Craig Cook 8.246. Kyle Bickley 2.867. Jacob Hook 4.00 Highlight of the evening could be the return of Craig Cook as a Monarch. He was a long-time Shielfield track record holder, until the circuit was altered and Dan Bewley established the current record. Can the Cookie Monster return a new fastest time? Of course, he'll have to win a race to do so..... Despite Glasgow having an advantage in leading this BSN section, there will also be a "fastest second" place for a fourth qualifier in the semi-finals, which could easily fall to either team here, given results elsewhere. Everything to race for -- and plenty to prove!
  2. Well, Lewi Kerr (and Benjamin Basso) got fined for their attacks, probably £300 each. But this has nowt to do with Phil Morris. Referees report such incidents to SCB, who levy the punishments. Phil is is charge of 'improving the product' for the Premiership, not disciplining handbag-wielding riders....
  3. Bomber's return will certainly increase the pressure on the home side, but much will depend on Bandits' new boys hitting the groud running. This looks like a pretty evenly-matched section of the BSN Series, could go to the wire next weekend.
  4. Opening night at Shielfield, and early-bird e-tickets are available from: https://www.berwickspeedway.com/tickets/ Under-16s free. FTS BANDITS: 1 Thomas Jorgensen, 2 Jonas Knudsen, 3 Leon Flint (capt), 4 Jye Etheridge, 5 Rory Schlein, 6 Connor Coles, 7 Nathan Stoneman ALLIED TIGERS: 1 Chris Harris (capt), 2 Marcin Nowak, 3 Jake Allen (guest), 4 Claus Vissing, 5 Benjamin Basso, 6 Lee Complin, 7 Ace Pijper Testing start for the homesters, Glasgow having four ex-Berwick riders (plus Jake Allen, who nearly was!) in their line-up.
  5. I would presume it is because, although named in Worky's 1-7, Luke has not yet raced for them?
  6. While it might be hoped he won't be tested in such a way, Bailey Fellows is permitted to take up to seven rides tonight. A rule amendment applying only to National League racing
  7. It seems some riders have been a bit naughty, using a special 'blue' methanol additive (created for drag racing) to their fuel. After some 'interesting' performances in early meetings, the SCB have issued the following: It has been reported to the SCB that some riders have been adding additives to their methanol. All riders are reminded that only "Pure Methanol" is allowed with no additives as per SCB Regulation 04.2.9Any riders found to be using additives will be subject to an enquiry and the possibility of disciplinary action.(Riders riding 125cc/150cc have the option of Pure Methanol or Unleaded Petrol) This is clearly being taken seriously, as there was after-race fuel tests being carried out on Good Friday at one track, at least...........
  8. When will clubs realise the wisdom of having double medical cover? A full hour since the first start of Heat 1 before the restart. According to medical officer, Archie has suffered a broken leg.
  9. Most of them on June 1st. Maybe slightly earlier for TJ or Jonas, if theirs are special circumstances.....
  10. Bullets begin their campaign this coming weekend. This from a comprehensive media briefing issued by the club: The new-look Berwick Bullets can call upon a wealth of inside knowledge during their weekend road trip to Belle Vue and Leicester. Their third season in the National Development League begins with a Good Friday trip to the National Speedway Stadium (1pm) followed by Saturday evening’s clash with 2022 and 2019 double winners Leicester Lion Cubs in the east Midlands (7pm). It’s a challenging start for last year’s beaten play-off semi-finalists but the GHT Bullets, powered by STS, can call on the experience of teenager Archie Freeman who returns to Manchester following a successful 2022 in Colts’ colours while Josh Embleton was a member of that 2019 Leicester double-winning side. A third new signing, Connor Coles, rode for Leicester in their all-conquering 2022 campaign and also enjoyed a year with the Colts while Jamie Halder was a member of the Coventry side was based at the east Midlands circuit in 2018 and was named in the 2021 Cubs’ side only to miss the whole season after suffering a broken ankle in a fall at his home while the fifth new signing, Danny Phillips, rode for Belle Vue in 2019. “You couldn’t have asked for two tougher opening fixtures,” Embleton admitted. “Having said that the 2023 Bullets are probably less experienced around our home circuit than on some of the away tracks, especially Leicester, where four of us have spent some time. “I jumped at the chance to sign for Berwick and even with just the press and practice and launch night behind us you can feel that there is a really good buzz about the Bullets. “Having raced against them I know just how much help and support the management and riders give each other and I’m looking forward to having the advantage of that guidance.” Embleton’s preparations for the new season were given a £500 boost last weekend thanks to a generous donation towards his costs by the Newcastle Speedway Supporters Association. “That was a really nice surprise,” Embleton admitted. “They might not have their own team to follow this season but are still looking to support the city’s riders and I am very grateful for that backing.” Freeman, who like Embleton is Newcastle-born, added: “Belle Vue is seen around the world as one of the best speedway racetracks and I really enjoyed my season with them last year. “But the opportunity to join Berwick was a real no-brainer. There’s a really good mix of experience and potential in the team and this is going to be a really good opportunity to get the season off to a flying start. Like the Bullets both of this week’s opponents have brought in new faces for the 2023 campaign. Jack Smith, son of multiple British Champion Andy, and highly-rated teenager Freddy Hodder are joined by 2022 Oxford man Sam Hagon and Australian-Brit Matt Marson and Luke Muff from Mildenhall while British Speedway Network pundit Paul Bowen has come out of retirement. Belle Vue have also taken advantage of new rules allowing teams to track one Commonwealth rider this season by naming asset James Pearson – who will also race for Birmingham in the Championship – in the seven. Defending champs Leicester are again built around the Thompson twins, Dan and Joe, and have a very youthful look with Vinnie Foord and Max Perry also returning to the fold while a pair of 17-year olds, Max James and Norfolk whizz-kid Ashton Boughen are handed regular team places. “Look around the league and there are no weak teams,” added Jedburgh-based Bullets skipper Greg Blair, who along with Berwick-born Mason Watson is the only other surviving member of that 2022 Bullets squad. “The focus is on developing riders for the Championship and Premiership and there is no better way that making every ride in every meeting competitive. “It’s been a long time since we were together as a team – more so for me as I couldn’t ride in the play-off at Mildenhall due to suffering dizzy spells. “I think that most people know that my links to Berwick stretch right back to my great-grandparents Danny and Liz Taylor, who brought the sport here in 1968 and it will be something special to lead a Berwick team out as captain. “But we’re not here just to take part. We plan to make a serious statement to the rest of the league this weekend. With the new scoring system this season it is important to battle for every point and look to collect aggregate bonus points as well as meeting wins.”
  11. Berwick don't have a league match until May 6th. Unless BSN matches are included as 'official' fixtures -- which I doubt -- none of their averages will change on May 1st, as I see it.........
  12. The long cold winter wait is over, and speedway returns to Shielfield Park on Saturday evening. Discounted early-bird tickets from https://www.berwickspeedway.com/tickets/ Large free car-park. Pay on the day by cash available. Bandits: 1 Thomas Jorgensen, 2 Jonas Knudsen, 3 Leon Flint (captain), 4 Jye Etheridge, 5 Rory Schlein, 6 Connor Coles, 7 Nathan Stoneman. Bears: 1 Erik Riss, Connor Bailey, 3 Charles Wright (captain), 4 Danyon Hume, 5 Danny King, .6 Jason Edwards, 7 Jake Mulford. Track shop will open, stocked with 2023 apparel and other goodies. Tapes up 7pm.
  13. Jye will be riding at Redcar on Friday
  14. I've always thought the season should always begin with the BenFund Bonanza. Who knows, this year it might!
  15. To be fair, most referees concentrate on the race before them, and treat the riders strictly as four helmet colours rather than who the riders are.
  16. The annual season Launch Night will take place in the Black & Gold on this Friday (March 24th) -- the fun-filled night where you can hear from, and meet the riders who will be representing Berwick Speedway's teams in 2023! Doors open at 7:30pm and entry will be made by donation. All funds raised will go towards helping our young friend Ryan Renton’s battle against cancer. Half-past seven on Friday, folks!
  17. Isnt that really their own business?
  18. They can donate anyway, the SRBF website is always open..... I'm not sure if there's an advantage in a stream (BSN or any other provider) from a charity event or testimonial, when folk are hopefully going to turn up in person to support the cause.
  19. One big(gish) difference is that the Scunthorpe promotion hold an annual public collection for the SRBF, as do all the BSPA clubs. As far as l'm aware, the NORA club on the IoW doesnt do that.
