The visitors lost by just two points on their first-ever Shielfield visit in 2021, and grabbed a very fortunate draw last season (after Chris Harris had to pull out the final race with a burnt-out clutch while leading) so might be anticipating a "third time lucky" result. However, the team spirit shown by Berwick's injury-ravaged squad against Redcar last Saturday means nothing's likely to be settled until the last race...... Not so. If new face is a trainee, he/she will be in box with the senior official, and may be invited to take control of some races under guidance. Once test has been passed, the new referee has a probationary period during which the senior referee will be present in stadium, but not usually in the box, assessing performance from various points during the meeting.
