What Is Going On At Leicester ?
stevethelion replied to djp45's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I have to agree with most of what you say, i did stick it out to the bitter end, even if i did have to be up for work at 3.10am, but to finish at 10.20 was a bit of a joke. Some of the delays were unavoidable where crashes & falls had happened, but like you i found it unbelieveable that after a 20 minute delay for repairing the fence they then graded the track after the re-run ,why didn't they do it while the fence was being repaired ? Also the first race didn't get under way until about 7.50 why didn't the riders just do a quick parade lap like they do in league matches, surely they was no need for rider introductions & national anthems. The referees must start to get the meetings moving on more quickly & should take alot of the blame.I felt a bit sorry for David Hemsley, because the meeting on paper had all the potential to be a good occassion, with some of the best talent from the GB & Australia on show but for a number of reasons it just wasn't a good advert for speedway, & with the size of the crowd i would suspect he made a loss on the night, which is a shame.I doubt he will run a meeting on a tuesday night again in the near future. -

Cloudy at the minute, but no rain, forecast is to brighten up later.Lions website now saying Lewis Blackbird has declared himself fit to ride after treatment to his wrist injury, so he's now back in instead of Ben Morley. -

Rye House V Leicester Pl 27 August
stevethelion replied to Vincent Vega's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Shows how far we've come after last season, when we are moaning after an away win, but it did seem very strange not to use tactical ride in heat 7 when we were 10 points down & with Lasse being in good form lately surely it should have been a formality. Only thing i can think of, is the fact that i am pretty sure I read somewhere Lasse saying he doesn't ride Rye House very well, maybe this was in Glynn's mind when he decided not to go for it.Still a very welcome 3 points. -
If Ken's become such a wildlife enthusiast i would have thought he would be glad if the development didn't take place, the wildlife must be flourishing in all that long grass, with wild flowers & natural water features springing up every week, we have a new pond every time it rains. He won't get that if the football pitches are laid.Speaking of pondlife i'll lookout for Ken & his mate Steve rumanging through the undergrowth on sunday, or will they be to busy writing letters to the mercury or council, what a pair of sad indivuals.

Mildenhall V Dudley Sun 19th Aug 16:30

Not a conspiracy theory just stating the facts that we were told at the time to why our start time was being altered.Anyway, like you say all done now.Just wish all 3 riders had rode at Mildenhall & not at Leicester then we might have had half a chance -

I think maybe the 3 o'clock start time came from the information that was given to us Leicester fans about 4-5 weeks ago when the Lions v Worky match was rained off & re-arranged for sunday 19th August. We were told we would be moving from our regular sunday start time of 6 o'clock to 7.30 to enable Blackbird, Morris & Roynon to ride at Mildenhall as they were going to start at 3 o'clock & still be able to get to Leicester for 7.30, we were told this had been agreed with Mildenhall, so I was surprised to see that Mildenahall actually didn't start until 4.30, so the 3 named riders didn't get to ride at Mildenhall after all.If this hadn't been agreed why did we still not start until 7.30. I think someone , somewhere is not telling the truth! -
Leicester V Workington (koc) 19/08/12
stevethelion replied to topaz325's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I entirely agree with you the messing about at the start was the worst i have seen it , the start marshals might as well not have been there for all the notice anyone took of them, if they will not come to the tapes & are persistantly offending they should start excluding riders, then maybe they will co-operate more. This certainly made the meeting far longer than it should have taken, but i find it hard to understand why people put the blame on the promotion, it wasn' t them who caused heat 1 to take 3 attempts at it before it was completed, for example. The blame should lie firmly with the riders for all the messing about & with the referee who let them get away with it , after all he supposed to be in charge. -

Oh no, not Nick Morris as guest he always scores bagfuls of points against the Lions.Just wondered why Berwick kept Jacobsen & got rid of Branford ? I was impressed with Branford when he rode at Leicester for Redcar & when Berwick visited a couple of weeks ago, he seemed on the pace, tried 100% & looked far more interested than Jacobsen did & deserved more points for his efforts than he actually got. -
Mildenhall V Stoke - National League - 5/8/12
stevethelion replied to PhilK's topic in National League Speedway
Leicester's start time isn't delayed, 6.00 is their normal SUNDAY start time, although they have put the start time back to 7.30 on the 19th august so Lewis can ride in both meetings, but i think this is because Leicester's meeting with Workington on that day is a re- arranged one. -
What Is Going On At Leicester ?
stevethelion replied to djp45's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I think the problem, if i remember correctly, is that the danger occurs when they go from bright sunlight into shadows & the few seconds it takes for the eyes to adjust, it's the adjustment from bright sunshine to shadows or vice versa that is the main problem not necessarily just the sun, at the somerset meeting the racing was stopped when the shadows started as the riders hit the 3rd bend, so meaning their eyes were trying to adjust from sunlight to shadow as they entered the bend ,which is not good if someone goes down in front of you. I am sure that was the reason given by Chris Popple on the mic. when he was explaining the reason for the delay. -

You say you have never known it happen other than at Leicester, i was looking at a meeting updates site from a meeting at Workington, i think it was last week when the updater said 'racing resuming after a sun break'. Surely riders safety is the most important thing & the last thing anyone wants is an accident that could so easily be avoided.Anyway as Fanmale so brilliantly put it last week why would it bother you, because as you take great delight in telling us ' you no longer go'. -
Ipswich 2012

Maybe couldn't quite work at the minute average wise, but give it another 2 or 3 weeks & who knows a few more low scores from Lasse & improvement in Lanham's scores & it could work out. -

How about a swap, Lanham for Lasse Bjerre, their averages aren't to far apart. Bjerre is certainly a trier but the track at Leicester doesn't suit his style of riding, along with his gating ability means he is struggling to get the double figure scores you need from a heat-leader.Lanham has impressed whenever he's visited Leicester.
