LETTER FROM NZ Thursday March 06, 2014 Rye House captain Jason Bunyan dropped promoter Len Silver a line this week which will also be of interest to Rockets supporters, as the now-9-times New Zealand Champion talked candidly about his preparation for the new season and his Wildcard spot at the Auckland Grand Prix…. “I have been keeping busy trying to get fit, with the loan of a spin bike from Grant & Sharon at Midas Onehunga, a motocross bike from Andrew at Elf and a nice set of scales from Graham Standring... it’s OK, I took the hint! I'm currently 3kgs lighter than when I saw you last, with the aim of losing a couple more! “I am really looking forward to fly boarding on Saturday - adrenalin junky that I am! “I did an interview last month on the Pits radio show - - which can be found under the link for 19/02/14, and I understand that I am appearing in the Sunday Star Times this week. “I am currently working on some training dates to go and help the up and coming Juniors on the South Island this month, and I am looking forward to that, as helping the juniors is always rewarding. “On the bike front, two fresh engines are on their way from Denmark courtesy of the wonderful Brian Karger and Jesper Kristiansen - so I'm keen to get testing to find some base settings in the next few weeks. This will hopefully allow me to eliminate two of the four engines I would like to use at the GP, before I arrive at Western Springs on the 3rd of April for the first unofficial practice. My plan to eliminate two of the engines will mean I can use the sessions – only six minutes on the Thursday and Friday - to finalise a set up that I am happy with, rather than use the sessions to try all four engines.” http://www.ryehouserockets.co/news.php?extend.758

Panthers bosses can’t thank the fans enough Panthers supremo Mick Horton has issued a public thank-you to the club’s supporters. Horton admits he has been touched by the positive response from supporters since his community-led consortium stepped in to save the club during the winter after agreeing a two-year leasehold deal with owners Rick Frost and Julie Mahoney. He reports a sharp increase in season-ticket sales ahead of Panthers’ return to Premier League racing for the first time in 15 years and intends to repay the fans who have shown their loyalty to the club by delivering success on the track. “Everyone at the club is raring to go,” said Horton. “From myself, to the joint team managers Trevor Swales and Blayne Scroggins, to the track-staff and the riders. “And the response we’ve had from the fans has been nothing short of terrific. “Season-tickets have been selling really well. We’re 30 per cent up on last season already and hopefully more will still be sold. “I can promise the fans they are in for a treat. We’ve put a great team together and it is going to be a good year.” Panthers, who are understood to have sold more than 150 season tickets, are 6/1 chances for Premier League title glory with bookmakers BetVictor. They make Edinburgh, Somerset and Workington 9/2 joint favourites. The new era of racing gets under way on Tuesday, March 18 when Panthers entertain Rye House in the opening leg of the East of England Cup challenge trophy. The city side’s first taste of competitive action follows on Tuesday, March 25 when they entertain Plymouth Devils in the Premier League Cup. That meeting has been rescheduled from April 8 to avoid a clash with Posh, who are at home on that night. Panthers’ first Premier League meeting - at home to Newcastle on Tuesday April 29 - will be beamed to the nation after being selected for broadcast by Sky Sports. The club have put back the start time of their pre-season bash on Friday, March 14 to 8pm. The event at the East of England Showground will feature a question-and-answer session with riders and members of the management team, and a disco. Admission is free but the club will ask for donations to be made to the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund. http://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport/speedway/speedway-news/panthers-bosses-can-t-thank-the-fans-enough-1-5918957 -

Indeed Spencebel ... Full article below.... Published on the 21 February 2014 Returning title hero Ulrich Ostergaard has been handed the role of Panthers captain. The Danish racer - a member of the Elite League-winning side of 2006 - will act as skipper as the city club bid to bring in a new era in 2014 with Premier League glory. And team manager Trevor Swales insists club asset Ostergaard was the obvious choice for the role. He said: “We are of the opinion that Ulrich will make an excellent captain. “He is a proven performer who has experience of all tracks at Premier League level and a top man to have around in the pits. “He is great at geeing up his team-mates and will ensure the spirit in the camp is just right. “Ulrich has been a top rider in this league in the past and we feel sure he can be one again this year. “With the help of some very generous sponsorship he has put some terrific equipment together and I know for a fact that he is thrilled to be back at Peterborough.” Ostergaard is one-quarter of Panthers’ potent four-pronged spearhead along with number one Ryan Fisher, Ales Dryml and Lasse Bjerre. The city outfit is completed by second string Lewis Blackbird and the young reserve duo of Joe Jacobs and OIiver Greenwood. Panthers have been forced to re-arrange their Premier League home clash against Somerset due to the unavailability of the East of England Showground on April 22. A new date is still to be finalised. Somerset do still provide the opposition in the first competitive meeting of the new era when visiting Alwalton on April 1 for a Premier League contest. mark.plummer@jpress.co.uk -

give it a rest mate until we know who the last team place is going to. As Neil says Flyin Ryan Fisher will be number 1 when the tapes go up in march so your statement is inaccurate without anything being substantiated...! -
