  5. Palm Toft willing to help the club that sacked him Published: 07:45 Thursday 09 June 2016 Michael Palm Toft hopes to produce a fine performance for Panthers . . . less than a month after being sacked by them! The Dane was dropped along with countryman Nicklas Porsing in May as the city club drafted in British big-hitter Craig Cook as part of a revamp. But Palm Toft is back for one night only tomorrow (Friday) when stepping in to guest for Panthers in their top-of-the-table showdown against Glasgow at the East of England Showground (7.30pm). He is one of two guests booked to face the Tigers with Lasse Bjerre, who rode for the club in 2014, drafted in to cover for captain Ulrich Ostergaard. Both Ostergaard and Grondal have unavoidable fixture clashes in their native Denmark. Palm Toft and Bjerre will bolster a depleted Panthers line-up which is set to feature a debutant (latest recruit Zdenek Holub slots in at reserve) and a man returning from injury (Nikolaj Busk Jakobsen is back after a month out with concussion) while also operating rider replacement for the injured Tom Perry. Palm Toft said: “It is always nice to have the chance to race at Peterborough and I’m looking forward to it. “I’m not thinking about proving a point or anything like that - I’m just going there to do my job of scoring points and earning money. “I did a couple of guest bookings for Workington and Berwick last week which both went well and hopefully this one will be good for me too. “I feel I’ve been riding pretty well all season, but it was my bikes that let me down. Touch wood, those problems are all sorted now.” Palm Toft was part of the Panthers team drubbed 62-30 at Glasgow in the reverse fixture almost six weeks ago. That was the result which convinced promoter Ged Rathbone that changes were required. But the city side are in much better form now and have strung together three successive league victories - two of which arrived on Bank Holiday Monday against Palm Toft’s current club Scunthorpe and Ipswich - to zoom to the top of the table. They were a point clear of a gaggle of three teams - Glasgow, Somerset and Sheffield - as the Peterborough Telegraph hit the presses last night (Wednesday), but that situation could change tonight (Thursday) when all three of their closest pursuers are scheduled to be in action. Glasgow go to Ipswich, Sheffield host Newcastle and Somerset are at Redcar. The visit of Glasgow is the first of three important home clashes for Panthers during June with visits from Workington and Plymouth to follow. Rathbone said: “It has felt fantastic to be top of the table since Bank Holiday Monday. It is the position that every team wants to be in and we will fight to stay there. “It is obviously not ideal to be missing two important riders for such a tough meeting, but we have managed to bring in a couple of very capable guests who both know their way around the Showground. “We’ve already dropped some silly points this season and we can’t afford to let anymore go. “It’s vital we win at home in front of our own fans.” Read more: http://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport/speedway/panthers/palm-toft-willing-to-help-the-club-that-sacked-him-1-7421982#ixzz4B4OFBkYb

  8. good signing lets hope he's got some good equipment ! Published: 13:37 Wednesday 01 June 2016 Table-topping Peterborough Panthers have snapped up a new reserve talent. The city club have announced the capture of Czech racer Zdenek Holub this lunchtime (June 1). The 20 year-old, who has brief Premier League experience, is on a 3.09 average. Crucially his move was ratified by the British Speedway Promoters’ Association (BSPA) yesterday when his figure was still 3.00 which allows him to fit into the Panthers team. And promoter Ged Rathbone insists it was an opportunity he could not ignore as he attempts to add more firepower to a side which jumped to the top of the standings with two Bank Holiday Monday wins. Rathbone, said: “We had to move very fast to make this move happen and I’m delighted to be able to bring Zdenek into our team. “He is a rider who has been on our radar for a while and he has an excellent pedigree. “He has delivered some excellent performances on the continent and showed plenty of flashes of his ability while settling into British speedway. “I’m confident the East of England Showground track will be right up his street and hopefully he will give us even more firepower down at reserve.” Holub first arrived in British speedway last summer when snapped up by Premier League rivals Scunthorpe on a seven-point assessed average. Holub was again included in the Scunthorpe septet for the current campaign, but he was squeezed out of the struggling side after suffering a shoulder injury in an April crash at the East of England Showground when tangling with Michael Palm Toft, who is now, ironically, a Scunthorpe rider. Panthers have dropped Tom Stokes after only one Premier League appearance to make way for Holub. Rathbone says the local lad will continue to be part of the Panthers set-up. He added: Tom had a taste of what the Premier League is all about and we’ll continue to work closely with him on his development. “He is someone who could well be a Peterborough rider again in the future.” Tom Pery, who is currently sidelined after collar-bone surgery, still classes as Panthers’ compulsory British rider after starting the season on a three-point average. NEW PETERBOROUGH PANTHERS LINE-UP (with June averages): Craig Cook (10.35), Ulrich Ostergaard (8.04), Nikolaj Busk Jakobsen (7.15), Tom Perry (5.58), Emil Grondal (5.00), Simon Lambert (4.38), Zdenek Holub (3.09) Read more: http://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport/speedway/panthers/speedway-panthers-sign-czech-youngster-1-7410561#ixzz4AKzQhdps

  12. confirmation INJURY BLOW: Star Panthers’ man faces a spell on the sidelines Tom Perry has suffered a collar bone injury. By Alan Swann Peterborough Panthers have suffered a cruel injury blow as star man Tom Perry faces a spell on the sidelines. The ‘T Balfe Construction Panthers’ rider is on the casualty list after a crash riding for National League club, Birmingham last night. Perry was taken to hospital where tests confirmed he suffered a broken collar-bone and dislocated shoulder. Doctors also have concerns over a swollen knee. Perry has been a classy performer for Panthers at Premier League level. He was due to move into the main body of the team when they entertain Ipswich at the East of England Showground this Sunday (5pm) after piling up the points at reserve.
