Shame on Sheffield
Mooose replied to dontforgetthefueltapsbruv's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Go and have a lie down. You won’t make any attempt to understand some of the problems this Sheffield promotion have faced so I’m not going to waste my time engaging you in debate. There’s far bigger problems in speedway which need resolving over your personal vendettas. -
Shame on Sheffield

Yes, the sport needs fewer teams. Genius. -
First name on the team sheet for me next season. Been fantastic for us and will improve on that average whichever position he rides, which is the name of the game after all. I personally feel that maybe Adam and Jack have risked over-committing themselves at times this season, but again Adam’s average is attractive for next season. Honestly wish we could get them all back again next season as they’ve been the best group of riders to represent the club in many, many years.

TV coverage put paid to that. All the riders were ready to go at 7:30, with bikes on track.

It's a bit hysterical to suggest Sheffield should be deducted points for what happened last night. How much of it was under the direct control of the Sheffield promotion exactly? The TV coverage delayed the start of the meeting and there were numerous other occasions where a race was delayed to coincide with the coverage. There were a few situations where riders were having 2 consecutive rides, including one (I think it was around Heat 11 or 12 - I forget which) where the delay was interminable. We had a tape exclusion, three crashes, and of course one of those destroyed the air fence (hopefully Danny King is OK). That aside, there was actually some good racing last night and I saw a few of the kids who were standing on the 3rd / 4th bend - they were loving it. Nobody wanted the meeting to end like that last night - especially the Sheffield promotion who put a lot of effort into getting people into the stadium and who wanted to showcase the sport on TV - so to imply that they were time-wasting to deny Ipswich a bonus point, or that they should be deducted points for having a wrecked air-fence, is a bizarre interpretation of reality.

If Stefan Nielsen is available on 3.00 then he’s an absolute certainty in my opinion, regardless of points limits. Imagine the entertainment value if we could somehow accommodate Bomber Harris and Josh Pickering in the same team?

I have no inside knowledge on what’s going on with Troy but there’s got to be more to this than him simply not trying. He’s been incredibly tentative all year and that’s not the same as simply not trying. Not for the first time last week he got himself into a decent position in one heat but he couldn’t bring himself to drop it onto the visiting rider and block his run. At Kings Lynn I saw him ride like he didn’t know the track, at Peterborough he was miles off the pace, as he has been at Sheffield for the most part, at Wolverhampton he was rapid out of the gate and got stuck in, and he’s scoring points for Kent - as he should do. My point is, you can’t say it’s definitely rustiness, or confidence, his personal life, or his equipment. It could be all the above, but I genuinely don’t think it’s that he simply can’t be arsed. I actually hope we stick with him for the rest of the season and he gets his mojo back and comes back strong for us next season. I think he would agree he owes us one.

Welcome to Sheffield, Ash Morris. Met him a few years ago in Cardiff and he came across as a really nice guy. Let’s get behind him. Either Lawson or Allen would do very nicely to finish the team, especially considering they’d be our number 4 rider! Of the two I think Allen is perhaps more exciting to watch round Owlerton, but Lawson can fly round the place when he gates. I thought the promotion had a bit of a falling out with Lawson a couple of years ago, but I guess life’s too short to hold a grudge. Either way Sheffield are not going to fail through a lack of effort by the promotion. Thanks for giving us something to really look forward to next year.

Sheffield v Redcar SGBCL 09/08/2018 @ 19.30
Mooose replied to Blackadder's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I’ve had the misfortune to witness some dross in my time following the Tigers, but this feels a bit different. Back in the 90’s we just had poor teams and you kind of accepted that for what it was. This year we haven’t got a poor team by any stretch, but we seem to have suffered a collective loss of form and confidence right across the board, all at the same time. I’ve never seen anything like it - getting left at the starts 90% of the time, and then on the few occasions when we do make a start, we seem to be getting passed way too easily. I don’t have any answers or conspiracy theories to share, just a feeling of bewilderment. Maybe the management and riders can work it out over the final few weeks. Good job it’s a pathetically short season so hopefully we can start again next year. -
Well that is a shock. I guess we need to give everyone some time to work things out one way or the other.
-
I suspect it’s either a publicity stunt or his account has been hacked. I’m sure the truth will come out in due course.

Sheffield Tigers V Scunthorpe Scorpions. 24/08/2017.

You're quite right, the incident was triggered by Kerr leaning across Bjerre who was having none of it. Tero and Georgie were completely innocent parties and if people were booing the riders then shame on them. -

The booing near me (1st turn) was directed clearly at the referee. Tero was warmly applauded when he got back on his feet. I have to say it was one of the most ridiculous refereeing decisions I've ever seen. -
I believe Shanes may have an average now which would rule him out of being able to sign. This promotion don't mess about so they'll be doing everything they can to find someone capable of doing a job, of that I have no doubt. As for JPB it's a real shame - for himself and the team of course. But if he's not happy riding at Sheffield for whatever reason, we can only wish him luck for the rest of his career.
-
Another great move by the owners. If they can just sort out the track as well, we can say that no stone has been left unturned in their attempt to build a winning team and to get people through the turnstiles.
-
Depends if there's any reaction to his comeback. One can't rush these things. And it will take people with much bigger brains than mine to work out whether if he does come back, we have to sack Garrity (absolutely not!), replace Proctor with Garrity - or- Bellego, or re-declare the whole damn team. And of course continued best wishes to Simon Stead for his recovery.

At last Thursday's meeting, the announcer said something along the lines of Sheffield being given duff information by a 3rd party which led to this situation. Unfortunately the announcer was somewhat coy about the specifics, so we were all left wondering what the information was, who gave it, and whether this same person may have given 'duff' information to other promotions / riders. I appreciate a number of people on the forum are clearly better informed than I am and I think I now understand why Ty was refused a renewal to his Visa (although I don't agree with the decision). I can now attempt to explain to my daughter why her favourite rider has left the country. Hopefully no other riders / teams suffer the same fate during the season.

Sheffield V Panthers Pl (thursday 14-05-2015 7.30pm)
Mooose replied to mudflaps's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Agree with the above. Andre in heat 1 shot our bolt with respect to R/R, especially with Ashley looking so vulnerable at the moment. I would have taken the draw at the start to be honest and heat 14 was one of the best races I've seen in 20 years of watching the sport. Brady Kurtz looks destined for the top. -
It seems utterly bonkers that the application of this 'rule' is basically saying that Ty isn't good enough to be riding here. I wish him well and I hope we see him again next season. In the meantime I'm sure we'll be welcoming a bunch of very average EU riders who are also keeping British riders out of employment.

Sheffield Vs Redcar 02-04-15 Lc
Mooose replied to Tigerish's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
It wasn't so much failing as it fell off during the race. Under the rules, he was likely to be excluded for this. Nice to see him back on form at Scunthorpe today. As was Josh - if he keeps his head screwed on he could be a real trump card for us this year. Hopefully the management are doing their bit behind the scenes with him. -
Redcar Vs Sheffield 18/4/14
Mooose replied to mrmiddlesbrough's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
What a result! Well done to all the Tigers, but Josh Bates 13 points including a win in Heat 15..?? -
I was slightly disappointed by the attendance as well, but had it been last Thursday as originally planned I'm sure there would have been more people there. Two meetings in the space of 4 days is asking a lot of the paying public and, with all due respect to last night's objective, a meaningful League / Cup match is likely to interest more people if they're forced to make a choice. Plus the forecast wasn't brilliant. All in all it was just good to see some action and from what I saw of Birks and Auty it should be a cracker on Thursday.
-
Agree with the above posts. Much as I liked Albin's effort and style when he was going well, I would feel a hypocrite choosing him in preference to a young English rider. I'm sure we all sincerely wish him well and I hope we see him again one day. It's Compton + 1 for tomorrow.

Actually I was referring to a previous post from Charlieboy who seemed quite confident that we were signing an Aussie who didn't race here last season. I have no idea who this may be, but if true then it's quite a short list I think and most of the likely names have already mentioned on here. One thing we should be confident of, is that Andre Compton will be added to the line-up and we keep seeing Leigh Lanham mentioned in the local press.
