  1. What has the team selection for GB done in the way of giving experience to the riders of the future, answer absolutely Zilch. Rosco picked this team as a safety first measure, he didn't have the bottle to give a chance to the younger Brits. If this squad finish anywhere other than last in the final it will be a miracle, and we have gained nothing. Perhaps we should be looking beyond the likes of Cook, Barker, etc. and give Lambert, Kerr Ellis Garrity etc the coaching, help and guidance for the future. Too many of the Cook, Barker generation are riding in the comfort zone of the double-up system, and whilst they are doing that they will not progress.
  2. What a safety first selection, no adventure shown for picking the younger Brits. Apart from Woofy does Rosco seriously expect by picking the same old, that we are going to do anything in this WTC. Far better to have given the young riders a chance, just to get the experience. I am very disappointed in this team selection.
  3. Perhaps the New Stadium could have more than one starting gate position. I think it was on TV this week that the track had more than one starting gate location. The one used was just after the fourth bend, making it a long run into the first bend from the off. All the tracks in Britain appear to have only the one gate, (unsure) What do people think on here of having different gate locations.
  4. The old chestnut of freeloaders at Speedway has been around for years. It is up to the Promotion to sort it out at their own track, as they are the ones losing the revenue. If only 100 people get in for nowt, that is over £1000 of lost income for the track. I have seen 100s of people given the VIP treatment at Belle Vue and taken on to the centre circle, a lot of them may be possible sponsors, but I would imagine that less than 5% end up putting any money into the club. Ex riders of the club, fine if they get in free, what I object to is the hangers on of these riders who get in for free as well..
  5. What do you class Speedway as ? This was probably the major factor that has kept speedway as a relatively minor sport since the 1950s. After the second world war Speedway was booming, until the decision was made in 1950 by the powers that be to no longer class Speedway as "live sport" as a result it suffered from a crippling 60% entertainment tax, which was not lifted until 1957. Since this, Speedway has never regained the mass crowds it used to have. Obviously there have been other factors as well since then, but that was the start of the decline. I would class Speedway as motor sport, but since the advent of jokers in one of its main competitions it is difficult to take it seriously, and with the constant manipulation of the rules by clubs, it has lost its credibility.
  6. Speedway is a very minority sport, and will stay that way. It surprises me that it has survived as long as it has. It is forever shooting itself in the foot, though after the weekend Coventry fiasco, it has shot itself in the head, Sky must regret having renewed the contract. As for Tai, Ok having tattoos and ear loops, as a speedway rider, but as a role model, parents must be dreading their kids following his example, and wanting the same adornments.
  7. I am led to believe that the defence of "That you knew the Speedway was there, before you built your new house " is no longer a viable defence, for the Stadiums, when the NIMBY's try to shut it down, as there was recently a Court ruling that overrode that. There is now a serious danger that since that ruling the NIMBY's will be reapplying to get their way. Speedway is now in danger of future rulings by the Courts.
  8. In my opinion, Kirky lane isn't Quirky. Generally the track was well prepared, better than it has been for a few years. It is probably one of the easiest tracks for the opposition to ride, hence one of the reasons Belle Vue lost so many home meetings, last year, 6 in all I think. At Belle Vue you must bust a gut to get to turn three first, after that just hold the best racing line, and providing you don't make an arse of it you should win, as since they flattened the camber on the bends a few years ago, it took away any different lines that the better riders could use, like Mark Loram, Crump etc.
  9. Quite agree with the "not upsetting the powers that be" The Speedway star is nothing more than a lickspittle journal, acting as a mouthpiece for the BSPA & promoters. Speedway will never clean up its act, as long as the Speedway Star is its passive mouthpiece.
  10. I worked with a lot of Polish people, and found interest in speedway was a very regional thing, depending where they lived in Poland. I took several of them to Belle Vue, (some on here would say the wrong track, though we had Crump then)) when BV were trying to tap into the Poish speedway fans in Manchester & District. They enjoyed the speedway but the deciding factor as to whether they returned or not, was simply COST, far to expensive over here , compared to what they paid in Poland.
  11. Well done Tai Woffinden, keep it going and you will be the next British World Champion. I have to admit that I was one of the sceptics, about Tai getting into the GPs, thinking Oh No not another Brit who is more down, than up in their performances, but I have been proved wrong, Tai has shown all the other Brit riders that with a more professional approach, and dedication to their fitness, what can be acheived. Lets hope his attitude reaches some of the other up & coming Brit rders.
  12. I have noticed at least five posters on here having a go at Craig Cook re alleged rolling at the start. Nothing about what a great meeting this was with some of them just having a go at Cookie, and quoting biased Birmingham reports. What is wrong with you, here we have a British rider on the way up, and as usual some fans try and drag them down, we have few enough young British riders on the way up as it is, so get behind them, instead of knocking them every chance you get. Last night, great track, great competative racing, with evenly matched teams, congratulations to all concerned.
  13. Great signing in Charles Wright, lets hope a Premier league team that clashes with Buxton fixtures dosn,t also sign him up. Would love to see Adam Allot back, great to watch around Buxton when flying. Could be a decent team this year, at least a competative one that should get a few more fans in.
  14. As a total neutral in matters regarding the Premier League, I find it refreshing that you still keep up all the other trophies, and that they are spread around the teams. Comparing this with the Elite League, where the only trophies left, other than the Sky Play Off Championship are the KO Cup, and the Riders Title. Both of the latter are now derided by a large section of Elite fans. Please don,t go the same way as them, speedway can be very boring when your teams chances of winning anything are over in the first few weeks of the season, with nothing left to at least salvage something out of the season. Forgive my ignorance, but I thought until recently, whoever came top of the Premier League were declared Champions, and the Play-Offs had another title. Its just my opinion, but I firmly believe that whoever comes top of the League are the true Champions for that year. My congratulations to Scunthorpe,on their win, you can only play within the rules of the sport.
  15. Yet another year when a no hoper Brit (or should it be Ausie) gets a free pass into the GPs. We don,t at this time deserve a representative, No wonder they don,t try or succeed in the qualifying competitions. It might have shook them up a bit, not to be in the GPs. He won,t get my support, and I think a lot of fans will feel the same.
  16. I do hope that Woffinden doesn't get the nod, for the 2013 GP series. I don't even consider him to be a Brit, he only chose to ride for Great Britain as he thought it would be a fast track and the easiest way to get into the GPs. He hasn,t even managed to be British Champion, and if he can't beat Harris and Nicholls to that, what chance is he going to have of winning anything at GP level. I would rather we didn't have a representative than another no hoper.
  17. Nicky was wrong to swear and gesticulate in front of the cameras, but Sky are equally to blame, they know full well that he is a volatile character when upset, and to shove a camera in his face, they were well aware of the reaction they were likely to get. TV thrives on controversy, and I hardly think it will effect the viewing figures, indeed some might tune in again hoping for a repeat performance. It is up to the speedway authorities, to reprimand him in some way, they can always charge him with bringing the sport into disrepute.
  18. Do we really deserve any British rider in the GP series, at the present we havn,t anyone of the class to compete at this level. We only now get a rider in the GP to maintain the Brit interest. Chris Harris is an embarrasment at this level, his excuses for his poor performances go on and on like a stuck record. It might shake things up here, if we ended up next year with no representave rider, but I doubt it.
  19. Jane, sorry to hear the meeting has been cancelled, was looking forward to our first visit to Buxton this year, but thanks for letting everyone know early, much appreciated.
