JohnD7244 Just thought I'd like to let you know I'm still alive and kicking. See the posts haven't changed much over the last couple of years. Still loads of whingeing about the track being rubbish. No disrespect to Coventry. But it took them 50 years to get a decent racing track. Anyway, I am intending to go to Beaumont Park this coming Saturday for the first time since we re-opened. If you see an old g*t walking about like John Wayne's dad, I'd be grateful if you'd take pity on me, and make yourself known to me. Enjoy your speedway, JohnD7244. -
Somerset Vs Leicester Pl 3/5/2013
johnd7244 replied to wandersome's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
What happened to two of Lions heat leaders? What was the score? What happened to the posters on this thread from the Rebels and Lions supporters? Did Robert Branford impress in his first meeting for the Lions? Hope some of you Rebels can give me some answers. Can only assume Lions posters are too busy whingeing over the state of Beaumont Park's track or what a rubbish promoter we have. Cheers JohnD7244 Enjoy your speedway. -

Sorry Robert, but as I remember. Sheffield is purely turn the taps on and go, As I remember.the only overtakes were by the Sheffield riders. Mind you, the last time I was there was in 1983. I don't suppose it has changed much from the videos I've seen. Quick comment on Sheffield's FREE programme. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Absolute rubbish. seen

Been reading my weekly bible, and found an interesting item by Coventry's new team manager. I would be very interested to hear what our members' comments are on this item. Rough translation: "We have to win all our home matches to get to the play-offs. This means making sure our team have a considerable home advantage. I will be sitting down with all my riders, and asking them how THEY want THEIR track preparing, then trying to keep it exactly as the riders want the track prepared all season." No mention of what the Bees fans want. Haven't seen any posts on the Cov. site yet regarding this statement by Mr Havelock. Are they happy with their lot? Didn't I read somewhere on this topic that the majority of riders enjoyed riding (racing?) on the Leicester track, and the home riders asking Glyn to keep the track as it was for the rest of the season because it gave them some home advantage?. JohnD7244 Enjoy your speedway.

Just thinking, if this post is correct then Glyn isn't going to be a happy bunny is he?. In an earlier post, he stated that he would be back on the 18th, and would start on the track then. Has someone beaten him to it?. JohnD7244 Enjoy your speedway

Think the promotion have given us the answer to this one already. i.e.: A team of racers. Most of the riders are young and ambitious, and will improve by leaps and bounds. Also think Glyn is spot on when he says all the riders can improve their averages by at least a point. (Got my rose coloured specs on tonight). I have a feeling Cov. could be in for a nasty surprise on the 16th. . JohnD7244. Enjoy Your speedway. Apologies Robert72 for getting my last post topsy turvy. Told you I'd got my rose tinteds on tonight. Looks like another trip to Specsavers, ah well!! Cheers JohnD7244

East Midlands Bowl. First piece of silverware on the shelf for the Lions. no problem. JohnD 7244, Enjoy your speedway. Get my old mobility scooter to see this one. Should be a cracker whatever the result!!!!

Just wondering whatever happened to the Leicester Lions 2013 SPEEDWAY thread? Must be my age, but I'm sure this is supposed to be a speedway forum!!! JohnD7244 Enjoy your speedway, at least if you can remember what this thread is supposed to be about.

GeminiYou're probably right Gemini, this is supposed to be the time for good will to all men and women. I'm sure someone will be saying bah humbug, no names mentioned of course. Hope to meet up with you next season, providing the old legs keep working. Not sure I could recognize you with management not allowing collies into the stadium. (Got to have a dig somehow!!) . JohnD7244. Enjoy your speedway.

Would just like to wish all the management, staff, forum members, and their familys a Happy Christmas and a healthy and prosperous New Year. JohnD7244 Enjoy your speedway

Just wondering what all these negative comments are all about! Isn't this forum supposed to be about the Lions team, and also the management who are trying their best to improve the problems that some members have commented on. Whether we agree or disagree with what is being said on the forum shouldn't we all stick together, and support the club as much as we can. I'm sure that practically all the messages by the members who post on this site are passionate about the club. C'mon y'all let's have positive comments about Lions 2013 instead of all the negative comments. This is our club good or bad, support it.

I know work is taking place on the third and fourth bend during February, but I did hear that the first and second bend is also to be altered. Just wondering if there is any truth in what I heard? I know some of our forum members have direct contact with the management team. Perhaps you could confirm this, as I did hear this from a very reliable source. Anyway, back to the Lions team for 2013. Great top four providing they can keep clear of injuries. Simon and Jan should give solid back up support. Both Lewis's are keen as mustard and I,m sure they can up their averages considerably. JohnD7244, Enjoy your speedway

Have you tried Leicester's Municipal Library?. The last time I went in there, they had all three titles. You would need to have a spare day to read the Hunters era as they cannot be taken out of the library. JohnD7244 Enjoy your speedway.

What Is Going On At Leicester ?

Totally agree with you on the last paragraph. But unfortunately, Glynn doesn't seem to agree with us. In the "Star" last week, he stated that he had specifically prepared the track with more grip on the inside of the track to help the reserves! It obviously worked, but was the racing any better? How come no one seems to know exactly who is doing what with the new regime? Why doesn't David Hemsley come out with an official statement as to exactly why he has made these changes? I can only assume that he knows something is wrong and is trying to rectify the problems we are having at BP which is not being transferred to the supporters. Unfortunately, I am only an armchair supporter these days. But I have followed the Hunters and Lions since the re-opening in 1949, so feel I still have a voice in the fortunes of the clob, good or bad. I am probably one of these supporters with rose tinted specs. I have always loved the anticipation, the sounds, atmosphere, friendly supporters, home and away, excitement at the tapes for the first race. Both Lions making electric starts!. Didn't happen very often in the 80's though with Les, Neil, Colin, Steve, Mark, etc. Perhaps that's why Blackbird Road was nearly always exciting. Although on saying that, I have seen some absolute shockers there. Apologies for getting a bit emotional, but the Lions have always been the team I have supported, so just get behind the management and team, and let the good times roll (sooner than later). JohnD7244, Enjoy your speedway. -
On reflection you could be right. It definitely wouldn't be the worst track in the Elite. Watched the Eastbourne v King's Lynn match, and that was absolutely diabolical. Two genuine passes all night. JohnD7244 Enjoy your speedway

I'm afraid that parting shot of mine was a bit tongue in cheek, but as I recall, before the start of last season in a report by the "Leicester Mercury". Dh's hopes and ambition for the club was to consolidate for the first year, challenge for honours this year, and then if everything went well, he would apply to get into the top flight in the near future. But as we and DH know, it aint gonna happen unless he and his staff can turn things round trackwise. I still live in hope though. It would be great to see the Lions mauling the Bees again, although to be truthful it didn't happen very often, and I can go back to 1949 when I was a little lad in short pants. JohnD7244 Enjoy your speedway.

Why do 25,000 people go to the King Power Stadium and willingly fork out £40 - £50 every week, getting mainly absolute rubbish matches?. Same as Speedway, we need our weekly fix!!. At least I think we do, and hope that the next week we will see plenty of good exciting racing. JohnD7244 Enjoy your speedway,

Whatever all Lions fans think about Coventry and their track, I must admit that it looks like you Bees are in for some exciting speedway this year with the riders you have. Looking forward to meeting you next year providing DH can get the track right at BP. Who remembers the East Midland Bowl? Where has everyone gone? JohnD7244 Enjoy your Speedway, at least if it stops raining any time soon. Sorry, East Midlands Bowl
