Belle Vue v Peterborough Panthers - Grand Final
WembleyLion replied to Flappy's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Looking forward to both legs which seem evenly poised. -
Panthers v Wolves - 2nd leg
WembleyLion replied to Flappy's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Looking at the new averages it is just as well Harris and Andersen had poor performances v Sheffield and then engine failures when well placed v King’s Lynn! Anyone might have thought it had been planned! -
Brummies v Bears take 3 08/08
WembleyLion replied to Col's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I attended as a neutral as I have done for all but one of the meetings at Perry Barr this season. As expected there is much debate over where the blame lies for the events last night but one thing for sure is that as ever the fans always suffer on these occasions and the sport seems incapable of preventing such self inflicted damage. -
Birmingham v Poole. 1st September 2021
WembleyLion replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Yes indeed always a concern when certain riders are programmed and the track is not perfect! -
Plymouth v Newcastle Tuesday 31st August
WembleyLion replied to bigcatdiary's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
At over 200 miles from home I don't get to visit too frequently but I'm glad I did this evening for what was a thoroughly enjoyable meeting. -
Riga for the SGP that was switched to Daugavpils at the last moment is the only track I have been to for a meeting that was not staged and subsequently I have yet to return. Apart from some UK tracks (most notably Belle Vue NSS) my first visits overseas to Landshut, Vastervik, Gorican, Avesta and Poznań were all rain offs but I subsequently went back. In the case of Landshut it took me 39 years though! I have seen some tracks where I didn’t actually see Speedway as there was not a scheduled meeting when I saw the track. These include Reading (Tilehurst) from a passing train and Western Springs (NZ).

Cut off date for play-offs?
WembleyLion replied to eric i's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Both the 3rd to 6th place play offs and the semi finals would have to have taken place first. Certainly possible but with Speedway … -
Peterborough v Wolverhampton Monday 23rd August
WembleyLion replied to bigcatdiary's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
A very enjoyable meeting and nice to see a good turnout tonight. -
Scunthorpe v Redcar - 13.08.21
WembleyLion replied to ScunnyDan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Excellent meeting - so many good races it would be difficult to recall them all. Well done to both teams! -
Very sad - a Speedway man through and through and was regular contributor to this forum. My condolences to his family. R.I.P Philip

King's Lynn v Ipswich 05/07/21
WembleyLion replied to Bald Bloke's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Ten home matches in 1986 all lost by Lynn Two away wins at Swindon and Reading though! -
King's Lynn v Ipswich 05/07/21
WembleyLion replied to Bald Bloke's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I remember 1986 when Lynn lost every home meeting although they did win two away! -
Redcar v Eastbourne 2/7/21
WembleyLion replied to Norfolk Bear's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Well done to Redcar for getting the meeting on. Eastbourne were generally much sharper at the start and overall deserved their victory. A thoroughly enjoyable 400 mile round trip as far as I was concerned. -
BIRMINGHAM v REDCAR WEDS JUNE 2ND
WembleyLion replied to Speedway fan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
You are right as always Mike. Nothing changes and I could list a catalogue of Speedway disappointments over many years that compared to last night. It is just something some of us have become hardened to. I will of course keep going and so will others but sadly I fear many more won’t and have already given up and I do fully understand why. -
Wolves v Witches Monday 31st May
WembleyLion replied to Badge's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Absolutely Mike - myself and my mate watching last night concluded that it may be the case that only Wolves riders are allowed to use the track in that way! Scott Nicholls was one exception of an away rider who we came up with who seemed to know about it! Keep it to yourself though! -
Wolves v Witches Monday 31st May
WembleyLion replied to Badge's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Yes indeed and the Wolves riders used ‘Karlsson’s corridor’ off turn two to good effect all evening. -

Wolverhampton Indoor Speedtrack 12th January 1972
WembleyLion replied to BL65's topic in Years Gone By
Hi Tony Just managed to obtain three programmes from 1973 staged at Leicester’s Granby Halls! I wonder how many fans saw meetings there! -
Hopefully after heat 14 they will see sense and move the remaining heats to Torun
-
I think it would require a minimum of 4 (4 way!) dead heats so technically not all!
-
From a mathematical point of view the answer is 7.5 I guess. 120 available points divided by 16 riders. This would involve at number of dead heats!
-
I came very close to seeing five riders tie on 13 points in the Golden Hammer on 23 October 2017. It was going nicely to plan right up until heat 19 when Max Clegg had to win which he did and Ashley Morris had to finish second which I recall was going to happen until he fell and remounted for third. In heat 20 Broc Nicol would have also have needed a second behind the winner Ben Morley but Broc fell and was excluded although it didn’t matter by then as the possibility of five riders on 13 had ceased in heat 19!
