  1. I think the late Lee Richardson would be worthy of consideration even though his British Final record might not have been on a par with his other achievements.
  2. Firstly I must say that I really do appreciate you coming on here Philip especially as you know you are on a hiding to nothing on occasions. However, I am amazed by your comment above and staggered that you haven't yet worked out that the best way for Hancock to help Holder was exactly as he did - he needed to stay second in the race to avoid Zmarzlik making up the point he had just gifted to Holder!
  3. I must admit I have always thought it fallacy that Buster gets meetings on. Admittedly at EL level having Schlein and Batchelor around this season must have made it difficult at times and Buster has clearly been frustrated with the antics of some riders. In recent years I wonder if there are many tracks (apart from Stoke) that have called off more meetings? I appreciate Edinburgh have been most unfortunate this year.
  4. As many have said the voice of Speedway - R.I.P. Dave Lanning
  5. My day job brings me into much contact with tax law and often I take on instructions from clients to advise/defend their self employed status. I also help a few Speedway riders with their accounts and tax and I do feel self employed status is not particularly difficult to argue for a Speedway rider. As has already been said on this thread (and a few others) riders are not assets of or owned by clubs although you might still find the odd promoter who thinks differently!
  6. Surely the Chairman of the BSPA will lead by example and not let us down?
  7. On a minor point we all watched Hancock celebrate being World Champ after his first race when he was mathematically certain but actually that wasn't quite the case as what if the meeting had been abandoned (unlikely I know that a BSI event could be messed up) without a result being declared and to be rerun at Bydgoszcz in a few weeks time (again I accept that is most unlikely to happen - well not a second time anyway!)
  8. Well done Birmingham who thoroughly deserved to win with an excellent team performance! Reading the programme from last night it looks like Graham Drury has gone the whole season believing them to be the youngest team in history of British Speedway! I must admit I thought the David Howe led third tier Peterborough team were a good bit younger! Anyway the Brummies are an excellent team regardless!
  9. Will Buster be leading by example and make sure the King's Lynn v Eastbourne fixture does not get overlooked and is completed by 31 October? Or will we find out in a few days 1) the Stadium was unavailable (apologies to Mick Horton for re-using his excuse) and 2) lack of rider availability (mostly due to Eastbourne riding/ partying every night for the past 3 weeks)?
  10. I think that was the excuse we were all waiting for - just had to wait until time had virtually run out before releasing it!
  11. I was once indifferent towards Hancock although I have always admired his skill as a Speedway rider and what he has achieved in the sport. However, after his violent assault on Nicki, the events around pulling out of the SWC and the two episodes today I find it difficult how anyone can carry on defending him, not that there are many on here doing that!
  12. Pretty much agree with most of the posts today. Nicki, Emil and Matej would seem to be dead certs so down to whether Janowski can hold off Laguta.
  13. Many thanks from me as well! A great job and much appreciated!
  14. You are correct in assuming Speedway riders are self employed. Also despite what some clubs would have you believe they do not actually own riders as assets!
  15. So we'll end up like Poland, Sweden and Denmark employing mostly home grown riders!
  16. Well done to the Witches who pretty much had the tie sewn up at Foxhall. Edinburgh rode well last night but I felt there were three races that really tipped it the way of the Witches. Firstly the Risager, Covatti 5 - 1 in heat 7 closely followed by the ride of the night from James Sarjeant in heat 8 when he chased down and passed Ryan Fisher and then in heat 11 with another 5 - 1 this time from Danny King and James Sarjeant.
  17. I remember being at Vojens in 1981 gone midnight! I also understand some of the meetings in Argentina are known to go onto around 2am!
  18. I have been to most tracks that have staged a Grand Prix and Teterow was probably the worst. Just a few things I observed:- A totally disorganised car park. One tiny gate to let those standing on the third and fourth turns in. It took a twenty minute crush to move about 20 feet! No signs though indicating this was the right queue and countless fans where turned back and had to fight there way back through those still queuing. I saw people in wheelchairs only able to get up a steep grass bank into the stadium with the help of other fans. No programmes on sale inside. Nowhere I could find sold a bottle of still water! Fireworks being hurled onto the track with no action taken to prevent it! Fans walking on and off the track/ centre green as they pleased during the rider ceremonies. From what I saw there was a lot that needs improvement. Not sure I'll bother again though.
  19. That's pretty much what I heard as well. I hope Steady is ok - the match was shaping up nicely until his withdrawal.
  20. ... and Workington will end up on no more than +2 as they are not riding their home match v Redcar until October 1st, unless they now of course bring it forward!
  21. It seems that accounts are also overdue at Companies House!
  22. There are currently five reserved dates on the FIM calendar:- Mon 19 Sept Weds 21 Sept Mon 26 Sept Mon 3 Oct Weds 5 Oct SVEMO have already bagged Weds 28 Sept for the Swedish Elitserien Play Off Final second leg so we can probably rule out that date.
  23. M56 - Jason came very close to doing just that a few times at Sheffield but each time he just missed them! As you say it was a stunning return though as he rode to a super five ride maximum!
