It seems to me, the Aussies biggest concern is the amount of Chinese coming in. As well as vietnamese, koreans, etc. Although most developers who our company work for are owned by asians, so in a sense the aussies have them to thank for the boom in construction work (in Melbourne at least). Their buying deserted land everywhere here and building six-twelve storey high apartment blocks. If it wasnt for them, we wouldnt have half as much work as we have on at the moment.

Not sure about that, looked a horrible move to me! Always liked phil though, but will admit he was at the least a very ruthless, hard rider. He didnt have the nickname "philthy phil" for nothing !
-
He was on his way back to the pits when someone headlocked him and he was wrestled to the floor by about half a doZen glasgow riders and management, once on the floor was repetitively kicked in the head and shoulder. I think he came back a few weeks after when his injury had healed and i am pretty sure he had a clash with pickering now youve mentioned it, on turn four at newport. I think that was a season ending crash? Still, beveridge was fully to blame for his recurring shoulder injury.

Id of taken Crump over Trick in the elite league any day of the week. And would of taken adams over him. Yet on the world stage rickardsson was superior to the pair of them
-
In fairness with my visa - they didnt ask for qualifications just proof of expierience of at least 3 years in the trade.
-
He waa just on fire that day and was no stopping him, scored about 20 points i recall? Your management and riders actions that day were an absolute disgrace, stamping over a young kids shoulder when hes been thrown to the ground. How beveridge escaped with only a fine is beyond me, and one of your managers or promoters trying to stick the boot in as well. Complete cowardly actions but we won the match and won the return at glasgow so justice was served!
-
I thought it was actually Emil who took off one of the glasgow reserves on the back straight? Yet somehow didnt get excluded but got back to the pit gate and all hell broke loose. Wasnt it that berk will beveridge who stamped on emils shoulder? That move without doubt finished Emil Lindqvist as a top rider - he had an amazing career ahead of him as well. I remember Wato was sublime coming from 15 metres back in thick clouds of dust to win us that meeting, they were happy days!

I remember when in a last heat decider at newport andre compton completely stuffed mads korneliussen into the second bend fence as mads was about to pass him, no doubt in my mind that he totally intended to put him over the fence. That was a meeting packed with controversy!

Yes there is the working holiday visa you get for a year, and if you complete three months of regional work during that time your entitled to apply for a second year. Not many come on those visas here and end up staying legally though , i was lucky. So many friends ive made here have had to return home due to not finding a boss willing to sponsor or, even more commonly, being led on for ages by their boss with promises of a sponsorship visa, only to be let down last minute. Im going through sponsorship now, its a lot of hassle let me tell you.
-
Your boy wants to get searching for a company who will sponsor him then, if hes any good at his job then it wont be a problem. The construction industry here is booming, and brits , at least in melbourne and sydney, are welcomed by construction bosses with open arms. The typical aussie is nothing but a whinging lazy waste of space (that coming from many older aussie guys who i or mates have worked for). The irish in particular are always welcomed on sites as they work like animals, although they come with a bit of baggage. I know my boss (im a concrete formwork and shuttering carpenter) loves us brits and europeans. Anyone who says getting in here is easy though is wrong. Its a very complicated, time consuming and expensive process!

He was never the same as soon as his main sponsor left him. It may well of been Thomas Armstrong? As soon as he left, his form declined. Same as Craig Watson at newport - once mallett transport left him he was never the same even before his injury. -

Believe it was, although that was 97 or 98, before i started following speedway. Anders was a pretty hard rider himself and many riders were victims to some of his first and second bends at Newport -
Pickering was a good rider when he wanted to be, but also seen him pull off some shocking moves and he was well known to be a dirty rider back in his day. Was superb around exeter though and a top guest for Newport there before, as was Scott Swain (what happened to him?)
-
Agreed - very hard. Going through it now. Dont blame the UK for making it hard for aussies to get in - the paperwork, hassle and most of all money that me and two mates are paying to stay in Australia long term is an absolute joke.

Bjerre would cost a fortune if hes moving down to the pl but probably be worth it. Would cost a fortune but would be the top rider without a doubt. Same goes for bjarne pedersen - i thought he may of ended up pl this season, hed still average ten imo. Seen most the tracks before and would run riot around newcastle every week
-
it was - however boxing day, which was when this post was written, wasnt as good as ive been sat on a coach most of the day travelling down to adelaide!

In the pl over the last 20 years, weve seen many dirty riders as well as some hard but fair. In the early 00s, we had a batch of riders who would go to another extreme to pass or defend their lead. Paul pickering, phil morris, andre compton, sean wilson. They strike me as the four stand out dirty riders. Nothing against them, all entertainers, but some of their moves were borderline disgraceful. Sure there are plenty more to add to the list over the past 20 years, el and pl! Also whilst on subject, whats the dirtiest move youve seen in a race. I honestly cant pinpoint one, i remember smart and danny bird being horrendous in 03ish but that was more smart just over riding and being careless - nothing intentional. This has the potential to be a very interesting thread - please no cretins like starman come on here and ruin it.

Stonehewer was a character. I remember the season i first started attending speedway, 99 at newport, people were talking about him every week on the second bend and how excited they were for him to visit with worky. Anders henriksson went out and beat him , stoney was second chasing him all over for four laps and would probably of passed him had he not had frank smart buzzing all over his back wheel for four laps. Stoney and anders hated eachother , and his defeat to anders didnt down to well with him! There was the time when he maxed out at newport but we still beat worky, would guess 2001 but maybe wrong. He won heat 15 and done about 4 laps of honour giving the fans the middle finger, then when appearing in the bar after the meeting a certain pinstripe senior was stood next to him at the bar and said "was that me you were waving your middle finger at after heat 15?" Never seen someone go so pale as stoney did, thankfully my old man was only joking as he towered about 3 foot above him 😂. Most times there after there would be an incident with stoney, i remember when newport were losing to worky and the track was dry, stoney unbeaten. At the interval tim stone drenched the track and he was crap there after and we won the match. Happy days. And who can forget his brawl with Henriksson on the centre green at reading?! Stonehewer was a proper charactor, entertainer and a top rider as well. Sadly he went on a few seasons too long, seeing him score 1 or 2 at newport as redcars number 4 wasnt nice to see -
Pretty good thread, ruined at timea by that tosspott sidney. Offering people out for a fight yet again then when someone offers, he backs off! When i next visit home from Australia ill happily meet you and strap one hand behind my back and still put you to sleep! Tosser

I have never understood why some of the more regular posters dont just make a new BSF and have a , say, anything goes policy. Subedei i think made one, and it was brilliant. Not like this thing now. People like starman running riot, jesus christ theres more sense in most two year olds. Hes the only person i know to be proved wrong time and time again yet still claim hes right! Then all these simpletons who are clearly the same people. How cant the moderators spot these herberts and ban them? One thread the other day thwre was about 5 usernames talkin to eachother, all clearly the same person! Unreal. I often read this forum to catch up on the latest news etc as i dont hear much as im living in Australia nowadays but having to trawl through starman arguing with a bunch of imbeciles is too much hard work. If you banned starman, stevebrum and the multi aliases youd find this forum a much better place -
Starman is just a little girl. If anyone is worthy of being called a faggot its him
-
Just seen that scb is banned. What an absolute joke Youve got people like stevebrum and starman on here who talk complete drivel all day long, about 70 different usernames which are probably all belonging to one or two people talking to themselves all day.... Seems like a pisstake to me. Scb is one of the best posters on here, okay sometimes he can be a complete nerd ( 😁 ) but on the whole he talks sense. Banning him just shows what a joke the moderation team is on here. I think id be speaking for everyone when i say that if starman got ploughed down by a bus, id have a good laugh. The guys a w@nk£r and as thick as pig crap. Dont care if i receive a ban, will just use one of my other logins 😁
