  1. Rune Holta was a Norwegian who ended up getting Polish citizenship and representing Poland in the GPs and world cups, why can't Laguta do the same if he has Polish citizenship or am I missing something ?
  2. They probably owe a load of money out for this season and thats why the begging bowl has came out.
  3. Thanks for that , didn't realise race nights had been agreed for both leagues already next season. Most sensible decision is to shut the doors now then.
  4. I remember when Rickardsson got his 6th, people on here were saying that he would never have won 6 world titles back in the 70's and 80's. And he could of gone on to win more, he was still a top top performer when he decided he had enough and walked away from the sport, same as Schumacher in F1. Zmarzlik could go on to win another 2 or 3 titles easily. It's hard to say whether he would have done in a different era. The fitness and diet levels these days are on another level, same as machinery so who knows how good the old school would of been with the current standards. What is certain though is that in the current generation, Zmarzlik is by far and away the best in the world.
  5. Another thing, from what I have read it seems 2025 will be the final year of speedway at Birmingham regardless of success and crowd levels so what sane person is going to throw their money into that? If your club is getting the begging bowl out, then IMO it's time for the promotion to shut shop.
  6. He was slated by people on here who usually whine at absolutely anything. I thought he was brilliant, and he gave the sport great coverage when working on his other sports like the darts and footy. He was extremely clued up on the sport and knew what he was talking about and his excitement coupled with that made for an excellent commentator. As I stated before, he and Tatum worked great together but Tatum hasn't got it in him to be lead commentator and obviously cannot handle the pressure hence why he makes so many mistakes, mistakes that you wouldn't hear from him before when working alongside Pearson. Looking back, Sky Sports was brilliant for speedway and their coverage of both league racing and GPs was absolutely streets ahead of what we get served up with now. Being in Australia I barely watch anything other than the GPs anymore and that is even when work allows so are usually repeats but I find the overall presentation dull and second rate. Pearson and to a lesser extent Millard could make a dull meeting sound exciting whereas the current crop have the reverse effect and make top meetings seem dull and flat.
  7. I think it should be said that promotions crying to the fanbase about needing more people through the gate doesn't work and if anything has a negative impact. Moving up a tier when already losing money was just ridiculous and was never going to end well. Then fielding a team that wasn't going to compete was another foolish move. Tolley also made himself look daft when stating money wasn't an issue or something along those lines. You can't go crying that your then losing money and need more fans in. I saw it with my own eyes at Newport, the Mallett's had many faults which everyone knows about but they put their money into it and done all they could regarding signing riders. And if they hadn't of been in the press crying about crowds each week then I am sure they would have gained a lot more sympathy and understanding from fans. Winning teams are important, but history shows it has to be done from the off. Losing your first few home fixtures basically writes off the season, especially these days with such small league tables. Newport had crowds of about 300 each week and by the time changes were made to the side (which incidentally made them the best side in the league by some distance) the crowds didn't go up when results changed as the league title was well out the window. We got to the KO cup final and had a crowd of 1000 ish watch us absolutely batter Glasgow (who walked away with the league title that year). This just proves that when a team is winning and has a chance of lifting silverware, fans will come. But back to Birmingham, yes it will be great for British Speedway if they have another go next season but the best thing for them to do would be to drop to the Championship and try and sign a top side. Another season like the one just gone and it will only be the same negative comments or worse. And for God sake sort the management out. Get rid of Ermolenko and get a proper manager in.
  8. Agree, when you see so many other jobs that are far more dangerous than speedway it does make you laugh when you read the old "they risk their lives for our entertainment " being churned out.
  9. No idea what the issue is... all software is up to date on it and phones in perfectly good health, everything else seems to work fine besides viewing this forum on it.
  10. Novelty of Cardiff has worn off for sure... you wont get a better day out at any other track in the UK than prime Cardiff. 40000 ish year on year. I am surprised they are still bothering to host it there now though with crowds of, apparently, less than 20,000. That said, would you sell out Belle Vue if you could get 20,000 in there? Not a chance.
  11. Watched the replay this evening, a brilliant GP. GB having two riders in the top four and current world cup champs - a great year for the Brits. On a side note, is anyone else struggling to view this new forum layout on an iPhone? Very rarely loads on safari for me. Works fine on windows on PC and laptop but a waste of time on phone.
  12. Yeah, what Carter done at the end of his life wasn't dangerous at all. I would put him down as a far bigger scumbag than Jason Garrity and that is saying something.
  13. I was watching an old SGP on youtube the other day, think was Prague 2002. Had Millard and Tatum commentating and in all honesty the whole presentation was streets ahead of what it is now. And everyone (myself included) used to slate Millard! Tatum is IMO fine as a back up but needs a proper commentator ahead of him. Pearson was superb IMO and is very badly missed. Pearson's excitement along with his excellent knowledge of the sport was brilliant and wont hear anyone tell me different. Pundits, presenters and commentators make errors in all sports at all levels and thought the people each week slating Pearson were a bit harsh. Granted Millard was a bit of a plank but still streets ahead of what we have now. Watch an old SGP or Elite League meeting on youtube from 20 ish years ago and watch a modern day one and you'll see what I mean. I find Chris Louis a very informative guy but he is as boring as they get when commentating. When you had Pearson & Tatum commentating, Johnathan Green and Louis/Johno in the studio and Sophie Blake interviewing in the pits, it was pretty good.
  14. Had a few beers and watched some old crashes and cockups during lockdown and I remember that Wilson/Corbett incident, Wilson was racing someone to the line I think and Corbett shut off early crossing the line and Wilson had nowhere to go, I think thats how I remember it. It was the behaviour of Wilson after it whilst Corbett was on the track still that p""""d off the Arena fans. Was a few years ago that I seen it but I am pretty sure thats what happened.
  15. I remember Wilson trying to shove Frankie Smart in the fence at Newport one year, missed and done himself in instead. Think he missed the PLRC the next day and a bit of the year after. Always preferred Stonehewer to Wilson, better rider as well.
  16. Yeah it kind of got hushed up that whole story.
  17. Regardless of ridiculous decisions by the ref, King cost Ippo this. That is a pathetic score and if they are to be serious challengers next season he has to go - reminds me of Tony Atkin at Newport. Solid enough most of the time in the middle order but knew you wouldn't win anything with him in the side. That said, had Doyle and Emil been riding then it would of been another story.
  18. Think the oh dear should go to you, can you not remember Sids reply to Trigger in the cafe ???
  19. The damage has already been done. As Orion stated, the constant watering down of the standard year on year has seen the crowds fall away. No coincidence. The sport is dying on its ar*e sadly and not sure there is any way back for most clubs now. 90 percent of British clubs have promoted poorly over the years, the powers that be have let things get out of control rules wise and whats left is a rubbish product that most wont take serious anymore.
  20. The sooner they bring back the 4 or 5 man sides the better. Never seen the appeal in this format, its horrendous.
  21. Wouldn't say Sedgmen is passed his sell by date... since he has came back from his year or two away he has been pretty decent on the whole. He has always been inconsistent.
  22. Janowski may well come good again, his last few scores have been much better and you don't just lose it over night.
