Ben Fund Meeting

Dont be daft. Any rider who rides any track exceptionally well is a track specialist. You will find a rider who is exceptionally good at one track is called a one track pony. -

Had a great day out. Thought it was a good meeting tbh. Pedersen head and shoulders above the rest. Horrible crash in heat 1 in the dust with Pedersen and Adams. Adams didn't look interested after that. Glad Wato came through OK... a poor decision by the ref not to stop heat 5 when Sitera got totally out of shape in front of him and Wato laid it down. Rode a cracker to hold off Scheiln in his last ride. All in all, a great day out, enjoyed the lager and enjoyed being the last ones to leave the Rye House pub next to the stadium -

No idea why drunken behavior has been mentioned. Are we going to have this before every meeting? -

Have to say, Pedersen, Crump, Lindgren and Adams should really be in the final. Should be a decent meeting. Hoping to have a few jars in the sun and to meet some of these crazy forumers who have PM'd me saying they would "very much like to meet me" . See you there -

A very hard meeting for Wato, but he knows the track quite well. As long as he completes his rides injury free and picks up a few points, I'll be happy. -

Am now going to this meeting . Should be a super meeting. Be good to see Wato making his comeback. He looked very fast today in the behind closed doors practice session. -

Probably because it contains a few bits of nonsense. Buzz Burrows, Britains most exciting rider of modern times?! LOL. Would of sounded far better to of said "one of Britains most exciting riders". I have never found Burrows to be exciting in 11 years of watching the sport. Agree he deserves a testomonial though. -
Good to see Newport are attracting decent newcomers to the club, unlike previous years. Instead of the likes of Truminski, Mroz, Kujawa ( ), Vedel etc we have landed the likes of Nilsson, Mellgren, Kurtz and now Mark Jones. I think Jones will be a top NL rider and will almost certainly be pushing for PL in 2011.

More pathetic postings on here. Its public knowledge now that hes been put in prison on remand. It was published in magazine for god sake! Vega is actually right but some people don't like to know the truth.

Heard from a certain Aussie who will be gracing these shores for 2010 that Batchelor made a right bufoon of himself in the B final, attempting to pull Ward's kill switch. Dear oh dear, what a sore loser!

Classic At Newport
Pinny replied to P T Preece's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
I don't think the argument that if Newport didn't have the New Year Classic or Welsh open, they were fold, holds much water personally. As I have said so many times, a successful team in Newport will bring the fans flocking back. Looks as if this years team could be alot better than previous years, so lets hope its the case. Anyway, back on topic. Sheffield hosted the event a good 4/5 years before Newport then. Something was obviously wrong as they wouldn't decline Sheffield hosting the event (who had, I presume, successfully held it already?) and then let Newport run it. Maybe Tim Stone did take their idea then. But this was a few years after Sheffield had held there event. If Newport didn't host the event for 4/5 years, then any club obviously has a right to have it. But Newport have consistently run the meeting since 1998 year on year, barring last year of course which was because of the death of our promoter. Other clubs are allowed to host the meetings. Scunthorpe hosted theres in December and Kings Lynn were allowed to host one in February, but chose not to with the weather and lack of riders. The New Year Classic in January should be left at Newport for as long as the promotion want in honour of Tim Stone. The man who brought this event to Newport in the first place and made such a success of it. -

My question on when Sheffield last hosted the classic has still not been answered? -

What year did they last run the event? -

I remember Tim Stone explaining to me and my father that no other club would host the event because of the threat of bad weather, as well as most clubs not being able to run the meeting. Tim took the chance on hosting the meeting year on year. Poole had it last year no problems with that as when they were confirmed to be running it, Newport's future was still in doubt. If Poole are that desparate, apply for the December or Febuary meeting instead. Newport started the event, no body else wanted to know until last year. -

Steve, I usually agree with most things you say on here. But it does not matter one iota about the dry week, it has been absoloutely freezing in Newport for the past 3 weeks. How exactly are you meant to keep the track in fine condition in such cold weather? Football matches have been called off here, rugby too. The ground is rock solid. I think the track staff done a good job to create a rideable surface yesterday. As for the meeting, when Tim Stone run it, I believe he was one of the only ones to apply for it to be run most years. Most promoters don't have the balls to put on such event due to weather. Each year when Tim Stone held the event, the track was always like a billiard table. The racing is never the best but the track always receives good reports from the riders. OK yesterday it probably did not but as I said previously, that was by far the coldest meeting I have ever been to. Also with Newport, if it absoloutely "pisses" down, even right up until an hour before the meeting, you still have more than a likely chance of getting the meeting on which is more than can be said for most tracks in this country. -

This has been the coldest winter in Newport I can remember in all honesty. Must admit the meeting was poor but as I have said, with such cold weather there aint a lot you can do. Sorry about lack of match report. Will be on this evening without fail!
