Mark has had a good debut year Dave, if a little inconsistent. He has proved he can gate and pass, and I think he is close to PL standard. When you see the likes of Worall, Irving etc riding in the PL, I would say Mark is more than capable of being a good reserve. He is a crowd favourite too.

How is it a strange reaction? Rumours of a rider riding here when he shouldnt be, the rider most probably reads this forum, do you really think he wants to read these posts when there has never been any doubt about him being allowed to ride here? A simalar topic was started about Alex Davies for the Wasps at the beginning of the season. An official PR from NEwport would be good just to finally put this topic to bed, having spoken to Mark about it last Friday whilst out on the town I know who I would believe over someone posting what he or she has heard on here.

Mark was given a 6 month permit I think, however long it was it allowed him to race NL speedway. He is returning home early due to the fact he came over here early to ride in his late brother Ashley's memorial meeting. He rode here in 2010 perfectly legally, so I think this thread should be locked and removed. An official announcement should be made in my opinion.

Eased off a fair bit now and has virtually stopped in St JUlians, would imagine if it is on there wont be much dust Been raining for the bulk of the day though and all night lastnight, so if it is on the track staff have done well.

I admit alot of confusion has been caused over the past few weeks regarding Webster and Priest and it would be interesting to read a full press release from both the Newport promotion and Webster. I can only assume something happened behind the scenes as replacing a fully fit Webster with Priest is quite baffling.

Did Tregoning not go home last year quite early due to his visa? I honestly can't see the BSPA allowing Jones to virtually complete a season illegially... not just a cock up on Newports behalf if true but an even bigger one by the sports governing body. The argument regarding Webster and Priest is nothing to do with this thread.

BBC Weather online states rain pretty much all day. However metcheck shows showers between 1pm and 7pm . Would hope this would be on. A must win and all 3 points for the Wasps hopefully. We need all 3 to mount a serious challenge on the top 8. We are only 7 points adrift with matches in hand on most. I would also be looking at taking all four points from Stoke on Saturday. A very unsettled team and their top rider has been replaced by a rider of Anders Mellgren standard, and thats putting it lightly.

Anyone have the lineups for this meeting? Should be a cracker, with both sides in good form. Understand that this is the official date for the new floodlights to come on. This is a definate must win for the Wasps, another 3 PL points will certainly come in handy whilst the Tigers are in the same position as us really, looking for points to get them into the play offs. I'll go for a 50-43 home win with Kim Nilsson top scoring for the Wasps and Joe Screen for Glasgow.

Seen a couple of desparate moves from THJ lately and that first bend in heat 14 could of been a lot worse.

Im stunned by this. Glanz hasnt rode for about 2 years, he has gained a huge amount of weight (or he had last time I seen him, everyone was laughing at how big he had got) and comes in on a huge average. A young rider whos improved no end this year is sacked to make way for him!!! Shocking. Can understand Smethills being sacked as its clear he isnt trying a leg for them but Starke as well?! Baffling!

Kurtz and Newman for me too, or maybe Kurtz and Atkin.

Does anybody actually bother watching the "live entertainment shows" pre meeting anyway? Wont be attending this GP, first one ive missed at Cardiff since it started. Going to Greece on holiday a couple of weeks after and saving for that, so a day out in Cardiff is out the question!

People need to get a grip. If Tai was so good he would of qualified from the 3 heats at Sheffield, a track he knows well, and Richardson would of gone through at KL, a track he also knows well. Just because people think these are two of our best riders, they dont have a god given right to be in the final. They were up against lesser opposition on their respective nights and were beaten and didnt qualify. Nobodys fault but their own. Woffinden extremely over rated anyway. Nothing but average for Wolves this year and is being totally humiliated in the GP's where as Zorro, the man who "should never of been in it", is just outside the top 8 with more than double Woffindens points and has already made a final. Woffinden thinks he is a lot better than he is, hes another rider who has reached a stand still after showing a lot of promise earlier in his career. The likes of Ward and Holder are much better prospects. So why people are moaning because we didnt have Tai or Richardson in the final, get a grip. They werent good enough in the semis, end of story.

And the Brits who ride in the event are taking the place of young Aussies... or are you telling me that the Aussies don't have enough riders to fill their lineups so throw Brits in instead?

Australia run during our winter and young Brits from over here are more than happy to go over there and race and ride in their national championships.

The fact that teams were drawn out of a hat for this event is a complete shambles. Why not work it out like the Premier League and have a cut off dayte and use the averages to that date? Newport have a cracking team full of young guns who are probably one of the most entertaining teams in the League. They are sitting top of the NL too. It is a complete farce that they are not in this competition when other teams are. I know Newport fans were arranging a coach for this event which would of been full due to the fact the fans love a winning team and we would of probably won the fours or at least made the final. So thats a potential couple of hundred quid lost out on for whoever gets the proceeds. Hornets averages 2010 Its worth checking that out and seeing just how strong the Hornets team is. THis is possibly the worst decision of the season so far.

No chance! Smith and Hughes are better than our top two of Atkin and Kurtz but I'd take Newman and Jonesy over Owen and Strudwick anyday of the week.

For the best NL team not to be included in this event is a complete farce (unless of course they requested not to be included, which is almost certain not to be the case). Shows why this sport is such a farce. That said, Atkin, Kurtz, Jones and Newman/Webster would wipe the floor with any other 4 in the NL so at least its now an even field.
