Birmingham v Ipswich Monday 7th April
Pinny replied to Arch Stanton's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
There is no doubt Guy Nicholls has ploughed decent coin into Ipswich but in all fairness, they had years of floating round at the bottom whilst other clubs were splashing the cash so can't really begrudge them even if they are spending big money. The side they have built looks ridiculous, the fact the top 3 are scoring so poor by their own standards and they are still winning is ominous for the rest of the league. When Doyle and Emil get going it will take some team to stop them. -
Last few times I have watched him he just looks like he is riding a lawnmower. Put him on decent gear and he would be a cert to stick a few points on his average I reckon. Also agree regarding his interview, says it how it is and actually has a passion for the sport.

You haven't answered my point about junkies robbing innocent people of their hard earned , do you sympathise with them? I have my views and you have yours. Time to move on. -

Course not mate but you never hear about anyone who gambles and wins and makes a profit as being a gambling addict do you, only the ones who lose then cry and moan and try claiming mental health on it when really its greed that gets them into it. I gamble a few times a year , this year on the two big horse races and a couple of times on the footy, and done well. Last year the complete opposite. Id never get drawn into being "addicted" to it though. -

Why, because you think people should feel sorry for addicts? You don't hear people defending junkies on the street who are hooked on smack and crack and god knows what else. When they break into someones house or car or mug someone on the street. People want them slung in the slammer and rightly so as its where they belong. Addiction being ruled as an illness or mental illness is absolutely ridiculous. If Cook has a genuine mental illness and is traumatized by something then of course I would feel bad for what I have said regarding him. The rumors are (not for the first time) he has a massive booze problem and therefore is unable to show for work because of it. If that is false then I will be the first to apologize. I have sat through hours and hours of toolbox talks in Australia on mental health and have come face to face with people who have suffered massive family tragedy and come out the other side without resorting to drugs or booze (or gambling). I will add that the fact gambling is classed as a mental illness is absolutely pathetic. If your thick enough to gamble away money needed to support yourself or family then that is your decision and yours only. Nothing ever comes good out of gambling that's why casino and bookie owners are so rich. I am the first to admit I am outspoken at times but some of the reactions on here is exactly why the world is how it is today. Snowflakes and people tip toeing about in case they offend someone. Craig Cook has let both Leicester and Berwick down at the drop of a hat right before the season starts and has still not came out and explained why. As I said before, why does he hold a current license if he has genuine mental health problems? People can say its a disgusting comment all they want, its still a very valid question. -

Its all self inflicted . for instance, someone going out and buying and trying heroin for the first time leading to addiction has nobody to blame but themselves. Why should anybody feel sorry for them? Loads of people go through trauma in life, most dont turn to booze or drugs. i didn't hear anybody jumping to Darcy Wards defence when he turned up over the limit at a GP. Or is it different because he hadn't claimed he had a mental illness? If cook has a genuine mental illness then he should not even be holding a license in the first place. He would be a danger to others on track. regarding the Google point I made, well google his name and look at one of the first things to come up. -

I have every sympathy for people with genuine mental health problems. Believe me I have seen it and had a close friend commit suicide just before covid . I was on site the day a boy jumped off a high rise next door to the one we were building. Don't f''king come on here talking to me about mental health and how it affects people. I have seen and dealt with enough of it. it is exactly that reason why I posted what I did - there is a huge difference between mental health and behaving like he does. Use google and look up his name , its all on there. -

Be stunned to see Kildemand or Cook line up for Berwick this season. Cook is an absolute disgrace and can't be pulling the mental health card - there is nothing wrong with him he is just an alcoholic. Nothing to do with mental health . Waking up depressed with a hangover isn't mental health related. He has always been a complete tosspot , was once a great rider at this level but never had the aura of a Stoney or Wilson. Proper characters who had a love hate relationship with away fans. Cook has always just been a complete emptyhead and now his speedway career is washed up, it is quite funny to think he will end up doing idiot all with the rest of his life. Berwick need to admit he wont reply to them, he has a drink problem and they have cut ties and are making other plans. -

I remember Moggo in 2000 guesting for Ben Howe at Swindon and getting a flawless 18 point max , went to Swindon the next season and dropped off a fair bit.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this one. It is by far the weakest top two Edinburgh have started with and the only positive thing I can see is that Palovaara is a decent reserve. True, the two newcomers may be superstars but if they turn out to be duds? Most seasons you look at Edinburgh and think should do well at home at the very least but this team has home beatings written all over it. I am just stating it as I see it, I haven't ever known them to start with such a weak line up.
-
I think you have misread my message.
-
It is a shocking team. Justin Sedgmen and Paco Castanga as the spear head? Come on lol. Your deluded if you think Edinburgh have started a Premier League season with a team weaker than that.
-
Name a weaker one?
-
The blame game has started I see. Shocking accidents happen all around the world in speedway so see no need for people to be saying "Poland again" or words along those lines like I have read elsewhere on the forum and social media. Garry Stead and Lawrence Hare both had nasty accidents which left them in wheelchairs in the UK and there are many more. Its a dangerous sport and accidents will happen. Main thing is Woffy makes a full recovery. The way they went into the fence, I would be amazed if the outcome would be different on any track in any country.

Has to be the worst line up I have seen Edinburgh start the season with in at least 25 years. Can see Glasgow winning this by 20 points despite how weak their reserves look.

I remember during lock down, you could buy meetings online on the re run videos website. I cannot see any feature on there now allowing you to do so, I emailed re-run and they said it should all be working fine but it's not. Tried on PC, laptop and mobile and nothing. Anyone else had these issues?
-
Thats right. Powell then went to Workington and was decent enough from memory.
-
I think back in 1999 you had the Premier Trophy matches and challenges before the league started and I am sure Bentley at Glasgow averaged around 11 from the opening 5/6 meetings but could be wrong. It was very rare to have a week without a meeting at home back then - early March right up until the end of October. You had the 4tt qualis then as well. Could never understand why they scrapped them, they were a brilliant idea and ensured that the teams that qualified got there by right.

Just had a quick google search and seen that Carillo done OK. 2004..Glasgow..27..139..183..23..5.93 I remember Bentley was top of the averages in my first season watching the sport. 1999. Every week in the SStar, he was top of the averages with a 10/11 point average from his first few meetings before getting injured. I remember seeing him ride for the first time and wondering how on earth he managed to get an average so high, albeit only after a few meetings. Great days.

That Glasgow side was never going to do well due to a weak bottom 3. Wasnt Carillo a half decent replacement for Jones though?
