Because in reality its the same as British riders going abroad and in the main struggling. Okay, you have your Bewleys, Lamberts and Woffys who succeed but how many others hold down regular spots in the top leagues over seas? If you watch racing from Swedish and Danish tracks, you will realize they aren't actually that similar to UK tracks. And Polish tracks definitely aren't. It's what makes it even more impressive when you see a foreign rider come to the UK and hit the ground running straight away.

Mullett had a serious injury I think in 99 when Andre Compton took him out at Reading. He came back from that but was never the same rider. Held the track record at Newport for a while, think he was the top boy in that great Reading side that won the league in 97 (?) with Glenn Cunningham and Lee Richardson also in that side.
-
Zagar was beyond expensive in his Reading days , stayed PL longer than he should of done as was getting that good a deal at Reading.
-
Fair enough, thought was more. I think Klindt will be a steady enough signing , just can't see him being a 9-10 pt number one whereas its hard for me to see Zagar averaging less than that in this league. As you say though, Zagar wasn't in the mix so a pointless discussion.
-
Does it matter? Bjarne Pedersen averaged near 10 for Plymouth and he was over 40 and way, way past his peak . Zagar would be nigh on unbeatable around Plymouth. will end the subject there as he hasn't signed and Klindt has.
-
Did you read my post properly? from a quick google search he averaged 7.78 with bonus points that season, if you class that as a stand out season as a number one then good on you. But most would disagree. Matej Zagar is a better rider than Klindt and would comfortably average more than him in the championship.

Bring Speedway back Bristol / Newport area
Pinny replied to Youhave2minutes's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I read a comment by Nick Mallett somewhere on facebook where he has stated he is ready to reinvest in speedway in Newport if they can find the land and set up a Workington style track. 😶 -
Cardiff GP 2025 Cancelled
Pinny replied to Phil's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
British Speedway regarding young up and comers and general top riders is in the best place it has been for a long time - since 2000 and Lorams win you have only had one rider at best from the UK mixing it in the top 8. Now we have two and they are only going to improve , plus a list of young future top riders coming through. i don't see the reason for UK speedway falling apart as being anything to do with lack of riders coming through. Its the people running the sport that are ruining it. -
Cardiff GP 2025 Cancelled
Pinny replied to Phil's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
They have to get the ticket prices right for it to be a success IMO. I have seen prices of around 65-70 quid a ticket which is absolutely insane money for an event at Belle Vue. No matter where you are sat, its worth nowhere near that. -
Cardiff GP 2025 Cancelled
Pinny replied to Phil's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
We're not talking about riders though are we. Talking about fans in general. The Cardiff crowds have fallen off alarmingly since 2001-2010 ish and it isn't a surprise they canned it. GB have two top talents in the series now for the first time in years and years yet the crowds for the British GP were at their lowest for 20 years so not sure what having no riders coming through has to do with it. The sport is poorly promoted in the UK and ran by promoters with their own interests which shouldn't happen. It should be ran by independent people. Silly farcical decisions as well as poor fixture planning... the list is endless. -
2025 Australian Speedway Championships
Pinny replied to racers and royals's topic in International World of Speedway
I remember he was tipped for the top way back when his older brother was over in the UK with Newport, many said he will be a future top GP rider. Looked for a while like he was going to level out as a decent heatleader and thats it. Great to see him kick on and would put him as number one Aussie now. -

One thing you are forgetting - rugby does well there because its a far, far more popular sport than speedway. Both worldwide and more importantly in Wales. Speedway is a dying sport in the UK and the quicker people face up to it, the better. -
Wolves Speedway potential new stadium???
Pinny replied to Pauldoveyspeedway's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Is there a proven case of a team moving to another club and sharing stadiums and it being a success? -
Phil Morris won it , Brent Werner second, Steve Masters third and Robbie Kessler fell in the final.
-
Bang on. Its probably the worst idea I have seen in British speedway since that ridiculous British League cup from years ago which only lasted a season. Make more sense if Poole could bolster team with an unattached rider or two . As it stands though, ridiculous. And promoters wonder why fans get fed up and laugh at the sport.
-
Very good rider on his day, didn't he win the top flight with Peterborough whilst riding at number 1? I remember seeing him at Newport when he first came over with Scunny and he looked the business then, I remember saying he'd be better than Jorgensen who I think came over the same season. Could of gone a lot further if not for injuries. Would still do a job for any side if he stayed fit.
-
Yeah I remember he was meant to be , was close to signing for Poole I recall but ended up at Wolves.
-
He is a good gater to be fair and every one knows thats the main route to success at Plymouth. Plus at Wolves he was riding in a much tougher league and wasnt as polished a rider as he is now . i have always respected Ruckerroos posts from his Reading days and maybe Zagar has fell off form more than I thought but if I had a choice id take him over Klindt every time. Zagar was superb around Eastbourne which is / was a tight track. none the less the promotion have gone out and got a decent rider in so have to applaud them, Zagar would probably want double Klindts wages.
-
Think you've lost your marbles RR, if you'd prefer Klindt over Zagar at this level. Klindt has yet to have a stand out season at this level as a number 1 and is the type of rider who would average similar in the top flight or this league. Plus coming back from an injury. Klindt will be heatleader standard for sure but nowhere near the top of the averages whereas Zagar would IMO be number 1 in the league averages. Zagars gating is pretty good too.
-
No doubt Zagar would be a class act still at this level and be a near 10 pointer. Would make sense with him debuting in the UK with Trelawny and riding under Mark Phillips there. Plus a lot of ex Trelawny fans I believe now follow Plymouth. how many meetings he would miss however would be interesting, I remember he hated travelling north when with Reading last time in the Premier league. I just had a look and it was 2005 he last raced in this league - 20 years ago!! Crazy how time flys.
-
Yet another one of those 15 year old riders tipped for greatness but went on to do nothing. hes been known as a scumbag around Newport for some time now. Well before his days in speedway. not as bad as Garrity but another with no brains and a drug addiction. Mental to think he was under Phil Morris' wing.
-
It cant have been that big an issue for Cook regarding not being paid as he didn't bleat on about it and by all accounts wanted to return to Worky . Him missing meetings has became a trend over recent years has it not? its well known a lot of clubs don't agree to pay weekly - riders are self employed and anyone who is self employed will know that its rare to be paid every 7 days. Some clubs do pay every week, others don't. All depends whats agreed pre season in their contracts. Do you really think Craig Cook is the type to be owed money beyond expectations and not cry about it online?
-
Just no good ripping off fans each week fielding substandard rubbish. And then complaining when the fans dont turn up.
-
Have to agree to disagree with that one. Granted there are less sides around than in years gone by but why on earth would you commit to championship racing without having a good idea of your side , scraping around how they are looking for heatleaders is just ridiculous.
