  1. Still think the Brits are favourites if they get to the final. Only Woffinden will have the nous to let Laguta / Doyle go and ride with his partner to avoid last place
  2. I was also in Manchester SWC 2016 and that was 3 times the attendance of any race off in World Cup history without the home nation. Only GB can do this. Don't think you should talk GB down. Where are the mighty Polish fans tonight, no football friendly tonight. The reason of low attendances at all events this week is fans are not sure of the format. I'm sure with a little tweaking this format can be a success. What do BSI do, attendances haven't been good this week, do they carry on regardless and continue with SON or reinstate the SWC for next year and alternate . Feel BSI / FIM would like the SON to be the format for good with the involvement and potential win for more nations
  3. UK not a major market ?. If it wasn't the Cardiff GP would not have survived for 18 years and counting. What has happened to stadium GP's in those other big speedway heavy weights of Denmark and Sweden ? . Did you see the crowd for the race off at Manchester, no team GB in attendance but still three quarters full, no other nation in the World could do that, been to many race offs in Poland, absolutely deserted if the Poles's are not involved. Prague says it all full of Pole's and Brits. Uk is still one of the only 2 major markets in World speedway
  4. unfortunately there are only 2 major markets left in speedway , Poland and UK
  5. Woffinden rode tonight like he was riding an exhibition race. He treated every race like a chess match and he was in charge of all the pieces . Intelligence and complete control on a speedway bike
  6. Am I right in thinking this will be decided in a one off final race tomorrow night. GB could be a cricket score in front and still not guaranteed the win
  7. Brilliant ride from Woffinden , how he managed to be composed and so aware of all that was going on around him with the 2 Russians chasing and still managing to shepherd Lambert. exceptional
  8. Didn't see the first round in Germany but watched last nights SON at Belle Vue. I didn't think the formula was that bad although not sure about the last 2 knock out races. For all Rosco's knockers I thought he got the selection decisions right last night. It also showed on a good track that the 3 minnows had plenty to offer. The crowd level may be an issue going forward thou, not sure how BSI can run on those figures, and at one of their major markets in the UK. Kings Lynn in the World cup used to attract a lot more. Going forward, GB have a chance, especially with Woffinden's form, if he can drag Lambert along who knows, still make the Poles the favourites. Feel any new fans would be a bit confused by Pearson tagging Cook and Lambert in the British Final, not withstanding our top scorer last night won't be.
  9. People keep saying the racing is as good as any time in the sport. Its the first week of June and apart from Belle Vue at the NSS I can't say I've seen a match on TV or live to make me want to go again this season. 10 years ago I couldn't wait for my speedway fix every week.
  10. Because the amount of Brits who will turn out for these events are significantly more than those who would turn out in the rest of Europe. Britain always has the short straw because unlike other nations we will still turn out on a midweek night.
  11. Unfortunately the odds on another speedway club getting the council to build them a purpose built speedway stadium and a track, the perfect size and shape for modern speedway bikes is none
  12. Didn't see the semis and final last night, just watched them back on the net. Thought the Pedersen exclusion was correct, thought Emil should have gone instead of Magic, thought the move from Lindgren in the final was borderline. Lets not forget how aggressively Doyle rode in the last 2 years which should have brought him back to back titles.
  13. With respect how do you think Bewley would fair in the GP at present. I think we need to be careful, yes Bewley has done well at the NSS from reserve and number 2 but is up against Cook and Lambert who both have much more international experience at World Cups and World u21 level. Yes Bewley has talent but lets be careful not to try to fast track it too quickly.
  14. Totally agree, I would happily pay my money to watch speedway at the NSS every week, whether on TV or not. unfortunately I don't which is why I also have walked away. The National Speedway Stadium is one of the last few shining beacons of British speedway, frankly there are not many others. Unfortunately there are not another 10 - 15 stadiums / tracks on a par with the NSS to make the sport prosperous in this country. When someone of the experience of Martin Dugard says "speedway is dying on its feet " you know its true
  15. Lets not forget Woffinden , although not riding in last years World Cup in July was quite prepared to represent Team GB in the World Games at his home track in Wroclaw just 3 weeks later, in spite of his differences with Team GB and before any significant change had occurred. This years finals of the Speedway of Nations will also be in Wroclaw
  16. Maybe the Stoke promotion should approach their local council and ask them to build them a new modern purpose built stadium for free.
  17. Amazing after 7 pages everybody is arguing over rules and averages and not one person has commented on the quality of speedway. sums the sport up
  18. Must admit I'm on the same page as you. After 32 years of going virtually every week its very possible I might not go again this year. Heat 4 broke the camels back, with Sam Masters off in front we had a much quicker Scott Nicholls hunting down Wolves reserve Ashley Morris. After trying the outside line and going backwards , Nicholls then tracked Morris for 2 and a half laps on the inside line the only hope of passing being a mistake from the Wolves youngster, it was not to come. Sorry its not the sport I used to recognise. I will still do 4 GP's this year and have BT sport so that I can get a fix if I need it. Very sad but maybe time to move on and spend my money somewhere else.
  19. Very sad news. Ivan Mauger one of the true icons of our sport. I never saw him ride but have seen the footage of the old world finals particularly those behind the old iron curtain in Poland. His legacy will never be forgotten .
  20. The 2 minute time allowance has been around for decades. That is not the reason why people have walked away from the sport.
  21. You have the 2 minutes time allowance to do what you want. You can stop all the gardening you want but the 2 minutes time allowance will still be there and riders will use all of it
  22. Must admit I thought the same thing. Race suits, bike covers, personal trainers, nutritionists, health care, rehabilitation, training camps, away test matches, hotels, travel etc Its all money going out without any money coming in. Another input other teams get is mechanical assistance, also not cheap
  23. I think the question is whether the weather and subsequent delay contributed to the worsening of track conditions. If it did not Matt Ford Fan is correct in his assumption that the track was unfit before the first race. Usually if a meeting is called off after 1 lap its not adverse to assume that the track was not fit for racing prior to heat one
  24. Another bad night to go with a wretched start to the speedway season. I wonder how much more pain British speedway can endure ?
