  1. All about opinions. I'm lucky enough to have seen both one off World Finals live and plenty of GP's live. Just feel the anticipation , tension, nerves of a one off final are greater than a 10 round GP . Every ride in that final did matter, in the GP now running a last or having a bad GP can be quickly forgotten and move on to the next venue in a fortnight . The only tangible experience I have had from the GP is Mark Loram becoming World Champion in Bydgoszsz , what a night that was. One of the weakness of the GP is it rarely comes down to the last round, the Holder / Pedersen tussle being the only one I can remember since it went to 10 + rounds
  2. It would be better as a whole if speedway could have the old bikes back permanently .As a kid I fell in love with the sport for the speed, the atmosphere, the smell and the noise. Sadly only the speed remains. I can't argue with kids now who are not hooked, because the things that hooked me are no longer there.
  3. Most speedway clubs still have a match day programme, burger chips , a drink and a club shop
  4. Not the best or the worst GP, the main problem being gate 1 having too much advantage. A bit concerning with all the empty seats in a relatively small stadium on a perfect sunny night. With the expense of laying a temporary track makes you wonder what the future is for this GP.
  5. Not sure about unlimited points limit when Poole can't even afford race suits
  6. That's what the fixed race nights were bought in for, to eliminate guests which on the whole has worked
  7. So the way forward is for all Premiership clubs to run on the night of their choice and go back to the fiasco of teams made up of guests / RR due to fixture clashes / World Championship commitments like we had last year.
  8. Most fans seemed to be happy with the outcome of this years AGM, fixed race nights meaning full 1-7 for all teams with no fixture clashes .A TV deal in place on "the home of bikes" BT sport and an end to the much hated double points, wasn't that supposed to bring the fans back ? What's gone wrong ?
  9. Wow , another one with his head in the clouds. Attendances at Monmore are about half what they used to be 10 years ago, how can that be " very good " With one stand open on the home straight you can use your own eyes to see its obviously less than half full. Attendances in speedway are on the critical list, Wolverhampton is no exception.
  10. Wolves had less than 500 on Monday with no recompense from the "home of bikes " BT sport. They are in this as much as Rye House
  11. Think there is some smoke and mirrors going on here. There hasn't been an outside line at Monmore for 8 years. Its practically now a trapping contest with 1 line, example being Sam Masters in heat 15. Unbeaten all night but missed the gate in heat 15 and couldn't make any impression. Worrying last night there looked to be less than 500 there , watching an unbeaten home team on a nice night with no football clash
  12. Your kidding yourself, the track has been like that for 5 years or more Doc Bridgett or not. This " usual standard of high standard of close racing" is a figment of your imagination.
  13. You have a point. Unfortunately speedway has moved on and left speedway in GB behind. Gone are the days of the 80's when we had all the top stars , who made Britain their first priority, and able to race on the day the home promoter prefers, be that the weekend or in the week. We now have far stronger leagues in Sweden and particularly Poland who now choose when they ride and their riders make it their number 1 priority. Also the modern speedway machine has outgrown the traditional British tracks. Since upright engines and particularly new silencers came in , the size, shape and material used in British tracks is not conducive to provide good close speedway on todays rocket ships. Unfortunately nothing can be done , what we need is about 20 purpose built Belle Vue's , but we all know that's not going to happen. Unfortunately it will probably be a slow , lingering death.
  14. Good to read Pearson waxing lyrical in the local paper today regarding the TV match at Wolves this week. " The raw noise of the bikes ,the smell of the methanol , and it always looks better with busy terraces, and Monmore always delivers that. In fact Monmore consistently delivers some of the best action on BT sport. While Belle Vue is my favourite Monmore is right up there. All accompanied with a picture of about 12 fans on the home straight. Obviously Nigel has not been to Monmore for a while. In the real world, there is no raw noise anymore, its more of a hum, there is absolutely no smell of methanol, and the terraces are less busy now than they have been in all of the last 90 years. .And as for saying Monmore is "right up there with Belle Vue he is really having a laugh, like comparing apples with pears. Belle Vue is outstanding Monmore is average, occasionally at that.
  15. Don't think you would find anything conclusive. Most posters on here all want different things. Supposedly 81% of speedway star online wanted fixed race nights. Now about the same amount on here don't
  16. What about riders who double up in both leagues ( which is most of them ) back to teams packed full of guests again ?
  17. Most fans have been calling for fixed race nights for years ! Would Belle Vue or Rye House be any better off if the fixed race nights were Monday and Thursday, probably not. Unfortunately you can't have fixed race nights and weekend speedway unless we want to go back to the previous situation of three guests in every meeting to cover for riders riding in the lower league which fans don't want. The only answer is one big league which it seems some fans and the broadcasters don't want
  18. Well now the dust has settled on the Speedway Of Nations where do we go from here. Personally I think this format is here to stay and will replace the SWC.I think the FIM and BSI like the participation of so many teams and there are probably 6 teams that could win it. Although it may have been brought in to blunt to Polish 4 man juggernaut and it worked it still must be a format that is popular in Poland since they will probably staging the finals most often including Gorzow next year. I think a change may be made to appease the Polish federation by dropping the U21 rider and making it 3 riders of the nations choice, this would also negate the situation where some teams have been unable to field an U21 rider. Still think the format requires a tweak, I think the 2 day format is here to stay and the run offs, sudden death final also will stay however unfair, how long did the much maligned joker in the SWC remain.
  19. The problem is looking back at this thread you ruthlessly attack not only the Tai haters but anyone who has any criticism of him or dare to suggest he may have made a mistake. Get over it, we all make mistakes even Britain's top rider, look at your own posts, all week having a dig at Rossiter , Why, how is that deserved ? You wouldn't be a Rosco hater would you ? 5 years in charge , 4th, 5th, 2nd,4th and now 2nd again , how any your comments any different to the Tai haters ?
  20. It seems you as Managing Editor of the Speedway Star has an agenda. Virtually everyone is singing off the same hymn sheet accept you. I won't insult your intelligence Phil but if you can't see and can't admit as good as Tai Woffinden was in that tournament that he made a mistake in the Final then words escape me. Can see from your posts that you want Rosco removed but continuing with this "Woffinden couldn't help Lambert in the final" narrative isn't doing your reputation as a speedway journalist much cop
  21. Well I got that one wrong didn't I . Even Woffindens most dedicated fans will admit he made a mistake in the final. Over 2 days he has always looked after, cajoled and helped Robert Lambert out. Unfortunately in the final heat Lambert was on Emil's back wheel coming into the last lap and needed Tai to try and clamp or run Emil wide to give an opportunity for Robert to go round the outside of cut back up the inside. Robert was not adrift he just needed some help from his teammate to pass a world class rider. Surely Tai was aware that first place was irrelevant , it was only last place that really mattered.
  22. Still think the Brits are favourites if they get to the final. Only Woffinden will have the nous to let Laguta / Doyle go and ride with his partner to avoid last place
