  1. Change has to come from the F.I.M so no chance Quite like radical ideas here's mine How about having a meeting 15 heats in duration but divided into 3 segments of 5 races. At the end of 5 races the team with the most points would earn 1 point, if its level a runoff between 2 riders would decide the point. Then after heat 5 the scores are reset to zero and we start again for the 2nd set of races. Teams or to be of 6 or riders 7 riders with a race format similar to what we have now. All team members must have to have 3 programmed rides, tactical subs when a team is 6 behind, only 1 tactical sub ride per rider during all 15 heats and only 1 run off ride if required. Not all the meat on the bones I know and maybe a bit bonkers but its different and would keep matches relevant until the later heats. Any thoughts
  2. I thought you had to give back most of the opening night money ?
  3. There's as many Brits in the stadium today watching the athletics as there are Brazilians
  4. Just my view but apart from football the Brazilians are nowhere near as passionate and as keen on sport as the Brits. In London many were watching sports they knew little about just to be part of the Olympics and support the Brits, not so in Brazil. The main sessions of the athletics will probably be full but you have to worry for the prospective crowds at the paralympics which follow.
  5. Was Ole Olsen riding for Wolves the last time you went to Monmore Steve ?
  6. All the top riders are like this. Even thou I support Wolves it doesn't sit right with me that Woffinden can stroll back into the Elite league when it suits him putting a rider who is committed to a full Elite league season out of work. I understand the reasons why the GP stars don't ride in the Elite league, they tell us often enough, its a shame promoters can't see the big picture where these guys frankly don't give a stuff about the Elite League, although they are just as happy to shamelessly come back and use the Elite league simply for GP preparation when they have a bit of a bare calendar
  7. Tai could just as easily go to the south coast as go to the midlands, historically they have bigger wallets
  8. Got to agree, the Worlds top riders give the Elite League the cold shoulder then as soon as their Polish / Swedish teams bomb and they are at a loose end in need of regular racing they are ready, willing and available to ride in the Elite League, bad luck I say morally it shouldn't be allowed
  9. Well done to the Aces a terrific all round performance. As for the speedway what promised to be a blockbuster in front of a good crowd turned into a damp squip. Hardly any passing ,little racing no more than a trapping contest, not good enough ! Think this gives the Aces a free hand in the playoffs with no fear who they will pick, everyone else will be hoping Belle Vue don't pick them.
  10. If after 2 legs of the play offs we have a draw it goes to Golden heat. A seasons work down to 1 heat, its exactly the same as football and any other sports The music wasn't anything special at the NSS for the World Cup final. When the speedway is that good nobody gives a stuff about the music. Blaming the presentation and the music is usually a screen to cover up a poor product
  11. Good photos if only those pesky stewards hadn't kept standing in front of my Tai Woffiden flag. Hay Ho
  12. On the flip side on a Saturday night in the height of summer one team can't sign a genuine number 1 and the other teams number 1 has other commitments
  13. Hopefully Tai Woffinden will ride in the British Final next year. If not it requires his attendance and input. Tai's ideas may have some foundations but just jetting in on Cardiff weekend and World Cup week won't be sufficient,he needs to be a bit more hands on in Britain than he has been in the past. Its hard to influence change from afar
  14. I find this an obsession with some speedway fans and its outlined in this post. Do speedway fans have something better to do on a speedway night because all they seem interested is getting home as soon as possible. I get it with meetings finishing approaching 10 pm but as a speedway fan I want a 2 hour show. I want it when I go to the theatre, concert or any other sporting event. Under some posters request to return to 13 heats and TWK's idea of putting the 2 minutes on at the end of every heat,if we have a parade at 7.25 we can all be home within the hour with no stoppages. Is this really what fans want ? I don't. We are in the entertainment business, what other form of entertainment night out lasts less than an hour, ridiculous . Just on another note WK , I know you object to the double points rule, but its replacement , Tactical Subs if a team is 1 point behind will infuriate you even more, not sure you're return is just around the corner yet.
  15. I must admit as a critic of Woffinden I have sum-what warmed to him a little after World Cup Week. Not just for his riding on the track but his role in leading from the front , his general demean-er and the way he conducted himself.I also encourage his thoughts on how Team Gb can progress although I feel some of the ideas will require funding and time which may not be available. My only request would be for the Bspa and Tai to put their heads together to find a way that Tai can ride in .the British Final. The final needs the GB captain on so many fronts, If this means moving it forward maybe before Sweden or even Poland starts then so be it,there must be a way ,
  16. And both personal friends. People have to respect that their style is not liked by everyone in speedway and they are entitled to that opinion
  17. Ask all those who have to stop at Newport,Bridgend,Caerphilly because they can't get a room in Cardiff if they would like to stay 5 minutes from the stadium and the answer would be yes The point I was making was the price, you can stay in Manchester a lot cheaper than Cardiff. Agree Cardiff is a better location overall with everything centrally located
  18. Can't see why people are running Robert Lambert down. He has made rapid progress in a short space of time. Saturday was a big occasion for a young kid. Lets give the guy some credit and give him time to develop his potential to the full without comparing him with others who have gone before
  19. Manchester and Cardiff are chalk and cheese.Managed to stop 5 minutes walk from the stadium in Manchester for £65 a night. Impossible to do that in Cardiff. You can get a Travelodge in Cardiff most weekends for £35 ,your looking at £125 on GP weekend. No other city maybe Edinburgh inflates their prices for event weekends like Cardiff
  20. 4.15 just started raining. Probably the right decision considering all the forecasts say pretty much the same. Hope we have enough dates to get these fixtures in without having to stage another dreaded double header.
  21. Maybe you could bankroll Team GB in World cup week similar to the businessman from Newcastle who did the same for the Aussies
  22. With respect 90 % of the last 5 pages have been Hancock bashing, its probably not over yet
  23. Just back after a good weekend in Manchester. A few observations. Impressed with the stadium, sat in the main grandstand, great viewing and the stand holds the noise in,reminiscent of sitting in the stand at Bradford many moons ago.Not quite in agreement with the conditions of entry that you can't take in an soft drink, flask of tea but you can take in a bell,I'm ok but burgers and pies aren't everyone's staple diet. The programme, only bought one because I couldn't get a race card, anorexic for a tenner, Racing at the race off was poor, couldn't see the reason why as early morning rain is usually ideal for the track surface.Team USA whats the point ? Personally if I was in charge of the DMU I would replace Hans Nielsen. As good a rider as Nielsen was he was decisive,he admitted in the Star in his time he didn't get on previously with Ole and Erik ie half of his national side. By dropping Nicki he tried to make the World Cup all about himself.Did anybody believe this time last night that Denmark would not make the final with a round on home shale with another chance in the race off. When you leave out 2 GP riders and it doesn't work you have serious questions to answer. On to the final, one of the best meetings Ive ever seen in GB. Track was absolutely superb ,racing brilliant, great atmosphere and a terrific rearguard effort from Team GB.Well done to Rosco and Tai for the way they lead the team, not sure whats with the suit on track walk with every member in every other team in official teamwear,it is a team event after all.Thought the Aussies made a big mistake not playing the joker in the second block of races, cost them big style. On the whole well done to everyone at Belle Vue,and to BSI,just seed the hosts to the semis in future so we can have an even better World Cup.
  24. Hancock's decision to miss a rare British appearance to give youngsters a chance was exactly the same as Tai Woffiden's decision to miss the British Final to er give the youngsters a chance. I'm not sure the top stars realise, that with these guys understandably not riding league speedway in Britain that there is a real appetite of British fans to see these top stars ride occasionally on our shores, what other nation could get 8,000 for a race off. We are one of the major speedway nations, we cherish the opportunity to watch the top stars live particularly the current British World champion, maybe they should remember that,Britain has given most of the top stars in speedway some help in their development, don't forget about the British fans now you are in the G.P.. particularly the British World champion. Sorry rant over
