  1. But that's just you putting your own spin on fairness. Of course it is fair because they won under the prevailing rules. You may as well question how a team can win 14 out of 15 races but lose a match, is it fair, should the team with the most race wins not win a match. I actually preferred the old tac sub rule because it gave an extra dimension to team managing but I accept it often affected the result as it would have been without the changes. Very rarely now (and I am aware of the 2006 play off, although wrong gate choice in heat 15 was as much to blame there) is a match result altered by a tactical ride. I dont have any figures but I would suggest that last season there were less than half a dozen times a team came back from 10 down to win.
  2. Aint that the truth. Add in "I thought that closed years ago" when mentioning Belle Vue and you have the 4 standard responses to mentioning speedway. To be honest though nowadays lots of people have never heard of speedway and, as SCB says, assume it is car racing, probably because of the rise in popularity of North American car racing even though the name in that context refers to the venue rather than the sport
  3. You obviously prefer the old tac sub rule, for what its worth so did I, on that we agree. That is our opinion to which we are entitled. What is not opinion is the fact that the old tac sub rule was much less fair. It is simple maths that the new rule allows a potential 3 point swing in the score whereas the old rule allowed an 8 point swing. You simply can't have an opinion that 8 is less than 3 now can you
  4. I was telling a bloke in the pub and he fell about laughing when i told him about the old tac sub rule. He even told some other mates and they were the same. Pretty soon the whole pub was in hysterics. They all agreed never to go to speedway if this rule was ever reintroduced.
  5. Well the fact he stated other sports don't tinker with their rules over time when it is patently nonsense was a good indication
  6. I think you have just taken us full circle there. That was pretty much my first response to this post three months ago.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. Like both Rugby codes changing the value of a try many times over the years Or Tennis introducing a tie break in all except deciding sets Or football with the no back pass rule and constant tinkering with offside I doubt a sport exists today in exactly the same format as it did in years gone by, except in Rays world What you mean is you haven't got a clue about other sports and made a totally incorrect assumption. Most sports have had radical changes to rules over the years, its called evolving
  8. I bet you still believe in Father Christmas Ian
  9. But it isn't rocket science to understand is it. Why would explaining it present a problem. Despite everything on here to the contrary speedways rules (or at least the ones you need to understand to be able to enjoy a meeting) are probably far easier than most sports to grasp. We all have aspects of the sport we don't like but it the ludicrous "mates in the pub falling about laughing" type stories where those points become lost in a work of fiction. Clearly the OP has issues with riders riding here there and everywhere, he has a valid point well worth debating so why make up the fairy tale, it only serves to make him look foolish
  10. Neil Machin isn't stupid. He knows he cant sell a speedway club in Jan/Feb with no riders signed up to ride and all the others sorted elsewhere. To give him half a chance of selling he has to keep the business viable. I wouldn't take it as any kind of guarantee
  11. Doubling up has existed since the late 60s/early 70s. i dont remember the sport being the "object of ridicule" back then. There are a lot of things that make speedway look amateurish but riders riding for more than one league isn't one of them.
  12. No they didn't, they may have agreed to pay it but they didn't have to Like I said there are no such things as rider assetts, Sinon Stead could have ridden wherever he wanted and that track need not pay one penny. The system only stands up because, at the moment, all the promoters see, happy to play along but it will only take one to decide he isn't paying a loan fee for the whole thing to collapse like a house of cards
  13. Indeed although the rights to run speedway in a certain stadium i.e the license is akin to having the right to be able to throw money down a particular grid. With the air fence issue the in reality that license probably has a negative value There are no such thing as rider assets, if a promoter wants to employ any rider simply negotiate a deal with him, no loan or transfer fees apply to self employed tradesmen
  14. On the other side of the coin 14 points was only good enough for third place in 1960!!!! Hans lost three run offs altogether, the one you mention was 1994 against Rickardsson. He also lost in 1985 on 13 points and 1988 on 14. Both times to Erik Gundersen
  15. Yes indeed but occasionally you are allowed to be the one who is right !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. Simply look on the front of your passport. It will be adorned with "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland"
  17. Is it? I always though Great Britain comprised of three countries.
  18. 100 actually. Statistically two thirds of heats have bonus points and it tends out around that over the 15 heats over a season
  19. He must be right Kev because he finished the statement with "end of". You cant really argue with that
  20. Its like through the Keyhole isn't it, where to start? Look who posted it maybe. What about examining the content? "Back straight grandstand" not many places have one of those. "Champs Bar" Thats a big clue. So lets look at the facts. Posted by a Poole fan, using the term "WE" with references that could only relate to Poole Not sure where it could be to be honest, maybe Belle Vue?
  21. Would that not refer to Go Speeds contract with the BSPA to rake off 20%? The SKY contract hasn't actually been terminated as such, merely expired and not renewed (as of yet)
  22. Which suggests they have learned nothing at all. If a TV deal is put in place they still intend to stuff any money straight into the back pockets of mercenary riders
