Clearly the Ltd company that operates Birmingham Speedway is insolvent, probably both cash flow and balance sheet. To continue trading under these conditions is "wrongful trading" and can leave directors vulnerable. The likely outcome of this now is that the ltd company will go into liquidation and the inevitable trail of unpaid debts left in its wake. The GRA are likely going to be the biggest losers in it all and I can,t see them welcoming speedway back with open arms in the future, certainly any rent will be inflated to recoup some losses and no doubt payable up front

It isn't just the actual cost though, it is the perceived lack of value for money. If I spend a fiver I expect a fivers worth of goods/entertainment, likewise for £20.00 I expect £20.00 worth. Sadly for more and more people the vfm ratio has now tipped into negative and they don't go. For the past 30 years promoters have cared little for lost fans content in the knowledge they can just up the cost to compensate, it doesn't take a genius to see where that strategy will take you. By all means charge a premium but it is imperative that it is commensurate with what you are selling

Stop pandering to the lowest common denominator and change the sport radically A ten team Elite League with half racing on a Monday and half on a Thursday. A complete home and away season with each team meeting twice. A limit of 42.5 carved in stone, if the same number of teams compete then it is the perfect limit. Riders paid on a sliding scale per point massively less than now. eg average 10 and over £100.00 per point, 8 - 10 £80.00 per point etc. If the riders dont like it, tough All clubs effectively a franchise of one organisation, gate receipts and income pooled and riders paid out centrally. Then move on to how the whole thing is packaged, forget the "Bert and Ada wedding anniversary request" type presenter. An extreme sport need loud anthemic type music/flashing light type presentation. The whole evening should be joined together, not 15 1 minute bursts then quiet. Get the race winners to do a lap of the circuit to some accompanying music not scurrying back to the pits, almost snapping off footrests in their haste to get there. Yes of course some current fans wont like the new version, some current clubs will not even be able to take part but it is inevitable that there is collateral damage in any big re organisation. To be honest that is mostly "on the hoof" but the sport definately now needs to be looking towards major change

Pl Ambulances, Medics Or Just Plain Lies.

No the truth is what is needed not a statement that appears to pretty much concur with Richard Lawsons opinion albeit thinly disguised -
A modern speedway engine withe super light flywheels and short stroke motors has no capability to keep revving when it hits some dirt. When it does so it will kill the revs and lift the bike up or send it of in the direction of the fence. The new silencers merely compounded a problem that the riders and tuners themselves have developed over the years

Or conversely it could be because of us that new younger fans don't attend. When an event looks like a badly dressed darby and joan convention it doesn't give it the must attend type of feel about it for any potential younger fans out there

S W C - Who Will Be Picked For Uk
oldace replied to michaelcroucher's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I don't know whether he rides on a British License or not but is irrelevant as to who he would represent in the SWC. With a British License a rider could represent Great Britain in the SGP but in the SWC it is the riders passport that determines who he represents So yes I am serious -

What has that got to do with the SWC ? -
Tokyo Melody wasn't the music the track staff marched out to at Hyde Road. Tokyo Melody was prior to Blaze Away which was when the track staff marched (in later years ambled) from under the main stand by the Tetley Tavern, through onto the track towards the pits

But thats the problem. It was never an equal rider, it was always an under performing rider replaced by an on song rider, sometimes 2 in the case of a double tac sub. It could, and often did, turn what would likely be a 5/1 against a team int a 5/1 for. That change then skews the score by 8 points. In the case of double points then the most it can skew a score is 3. As regards tape touching I personally prefer the idea of all the riders stationary and a fair reflex action start taking place but I can see an argument for a flyer being allowed. I suppose it is akin to a flukey pot in snooker, they dont re spot the ball because it was just luck,

These days the start marshall moves away before the green light and it would be simple to just move to the centre green before they are under orders. The reason though is entirely the danger it would pose to the riders, although that said Ipswich used to do it with 4 riders starting from the handicap in the 16 lapper. Indeed the tape touching rule is the best rule brought out in the last 30 years
