It's the final insult after years of lies. If people get their hopes up for a new site now then there is no hope for them!
-
I just looked at their website. Wow f*cking wee. What a p*ss take that is. Lists the clubs Osborne was involved in and they all are defunct!!! Some absolute comedy there on a bad day.
-
Its so obvious now that Gaming will close the dogs and blame the speedway going for it. Then they will quickly get that change of planning permission in and just like that a 15 year old plan will finally be realised.
-
Yeah its cruel for the many who will still think there is hope. We are finished.
-
No. We need more housing so all available land must be taken up for that. Must build more housing.
-
The fact no one has slated gaming or the council for shafting us says a lot to me.
-
I could never support an Oxford team in any sport but I do hope the success story carries on for years to come!. Too many teams being lost and not enough coming back. Dread to think how it will look in 5 years time.
-
I went to a few Oxford meetings this season and was very impressed with the set up after so long out. I don't know much about the history during the closure and how it came back but they seemed to have a council who always backed the return of sport rather than housing which is something Swindon never had. The stadium owner seems to be a man who will get things done as well. Fair play to Oxford and will look forward to visiting next season if I retain any interest in the sport.

The best years for me was seeing Leigh in action every week. He's probably my favourite sportsman of all time. We were so lucky to witness that class every week for years. Will always remember the 2012 title as it was the first for ages and always good to get one over Poole! I remember punch ups at Oxford when I was a kid! Punch ups at Eastbourne when I was a bit older! Crumpy going unbeaten for about 7-8 meetings in Div 2 one year. Personally, great memories of going with my grandparents and then taking my niece and nephew and my own boys eventually. Gutted to be honest. Got plenty of other things going on in life and we haven't had speedway for 3 years but this still feels like a massive loss.

I was one of the ones who knew it would never happen and never believed a word of BS from Tomlinson or GI. But I wish I had been wrong. It's clearly the end of speedway in Swindon forever, we've been shafted by everyone. The thing annoying me the most now is the lies from the usual suspects after that 30.08.22 meeting and the complete silence from the club. At least have the nerve to front up now. If Gaming have shut down the dogs to force the speedway to close then say it how it is. Nothing to lose now by speaking the truth about them. Most of us knew it all along anyway. SBC will now focus their attention on getting the Oasis dome de-listed so their partner can build some resi flats. Complete and utter scumbags.
-
The problem is that when they said work had started up there all they actually did was make the site completely unusable for speedway. Ripped the pits out and flattened the grass bankings to view on.
-
I think we all know Osborne is blagging based on greyhounds trainers comments. TR just saying what's going on but the silence a month later is very poor from the club. I've always stuck up for them but to not say anything now is out of order. Greyhounds being closed means more rent for the speedway club I assume so have they shut the dogs to finish off the speedway?
-
Where was this posted please?

I think the club have just kept quiet because they kept making themselves look silly with positive updates. When you are against SBC and Gaming then what chance have you got. Just reading about the council trying to get the dome at the Oasis de-listed so they can work with their partners to redevelop it as a leisure facility! Their partners specialise in resi developments next to train stations but apparently they will redevelop the Oasis site as a leisure facility if they get the go ahead to knock down the old dome!!! SBC are bandits. The only thing they support in Swindon are housing developers and I can't wait to see what sh1te Tommo comes out with when that new build starts on the old car park site at the stadium. W@nkers the lot of them.
-
I drove past on the way to golf today and I would say putting the grandstand together is an optimistic claim. It looked to me like they had moved the units so they could clear the old main car park in time for Taylor Wimpey to start building the houses they aren't allowed to build until we have a fully functioning stadium! I sound cynical but I'm just being realistic.
-
Thanks, glad someone said it!! I'm 42 now. Started going with my nan and grandad when I was 3 and was a regular until 2019. Both my grandparents aren't around anymore but going to the speedway with them are probably the best memories I have as a kid so to think of it closing forever is upsetting. My own kids and nieces and nephews have got into speedway because of me taking them to the Abbey. Unfortunately I'm in the group of people who have been going for decades but know it won't happen. But until they stop BS'ing us and putting off the inevitable with lies then people like myself, Orion and Hagonshocker will keep moaning about Tommo, Gaming and SBC. They have all played a part in getting to the bad situation we are now in.
-
Said the same thing on the Swindon thread. Its an absolute joke.
-
Standby for the Poole fans to tell you otherwise!!!!
-
The fact they are naming roads and developments after speedway riders and the club is the ultimate p1ss take when they are all involved in trying to kill the club forever.
-
Did you see the plans for new housing development? Looks to me like the houses are in the old back straight car park. Tomlinson has now replied to me on twitter and said the development can't start until the stadium is finished!!! I asked him if meant that exact development that was mentioned this morning so we will see if he commits to an answer. I can't understand how anyone can think it will happen now. If you type in Justin Tomlinson Swindon Speedway into google then you will see articles going back to 2016 about working starting thanks to his tireless efforts!!! Makes me angry to read all that sh1te that came out of his mouth

Pretty sure Terry Russell paid for the track modifications. Gaming wouldn't pay a penny towards that. They elected not to run in 2021 because of Covid uncertainty and this year because of the promise of the new stadium works being done this summer which of course is a load of BS. The only works that have happened are to flatten anything which could be used to run speedway in 2023 even if the stadium had remained with the old layout. We all know its the end, just wish we would stop being BS'd.
-
Planning permission has been granted for another new housing development right next to the speedway. Bet all 120+ homes will get built before we even get another update!! It's early so I missed something obvious!!! The chat all along was that only a certain amount of houses could be built up there and then the stadium has to be done. Of course we all knew this was BS but now it's been proved. I'm pretty sure that the new housing development is in the old car park based on the plans in this article. Taylor Wimpey to begin work on new Swindon housing development (swindonlink.com)

Of course, there will be 100s of likes and people thinking that hope lives on!
-
Yeah I've already given Tomlinson the warning about what happens to speedway stadium sites when they can't get planning permission for housing. Won't be long now.
-
Yeah the happy clappers will believe anything. The only hope we ever had was running with the old stadium format and Gaming did enough demolition works to completely ruin that possibility. Bet the management at Gaming are having a right laugh about how they managed to hoodwink another council and get away with it again.
